Day 26

Footage from the Sunday eviction show.

The housemates are being shown an episode of Big Brother from (fictional) “House 2”. It includes footage of their own house, particularly the “oats ala-Layla” song from a few days ago.

“In house two, things are a little more relaxed…”

9.48am (House 2) – A girl with glasses is explaining how she is spiritual and it’s about connecting with yourself through an outer force. The token gay guy says it’s all a bit of bull, and people use it as a mad cop out to take the attention away from what’s really going on.

Michael makes a motion that the gay guy is wearing way too much fake tan.

Voiceover (House 2) – “It seems Dean has had enough of Graham’s overbearing nature”. We learn that Dean is token gay who tells Graham to “get out of my face”. Graham is complaining that Dean’s cooking mixture is too sticky, to which he replies “it’s bread! You know what, you do it”. Dean storms out of the kitchen.

Cut to footage of Graham in the House 2 diary room “I kind of ramble on and what you see is what you get and I’ve got a fairly strong personality but I like to involve people and get involved. I think people may think I’m taking over a bit”.

A girl in a red dress says “I’m getting really bored Big Brother”. The camera pans away to reveal a film crew is shooting the whole thing, and that House 2 is fake. The real housemates all gasp and don’t know what to say. It takes a few moments for them to all register what it means. Big Brother announces there is no House 2 and they have passed the task.

Big Brother: When faced with an outside threat it is human nature to either unite as one, or to fall apart completely. You were a house united.

The housemates cheer and sing “oats a-la Layla”.

Later on, Layla explains the task made them appreciate being in the house and they can thank their lucky stars they are here. Ben tells BB in the diary room it felt like the whole house was nominated but they pulled it together and he’s pleased with himself for being part of that win. The housemates all have a celebratory swim.

Nearly midnight – Stacey and Sarah have snuck into the kitchen to eat chocolate, but Ben and Bradley noticed them and come chasing after. They all start scoffing chocolate before more housemates follow them.

Day 25

8.28am – Heavy metal music is played through the house to wake the housemates. Stacey rocks out in her bed while the other housemates look quite unimpressed. Bradley explains to Estelle it’s the one week anniversary of their first kiss. Estelle rolls over, unimpressed.

In the Captains Quarters George and Ray are eating breakfast, but they don’t understand what they’re eating. Possibly a big mushroom.

Meanwhile the other housemates are eating baked beans. No one is sure who the baked beans belong to, and Sarah asks if she can just have some. Estelle says there’s some right here and she can have some. There’s a misunderstanding that is cleared up. Estelle wants to talk to Sarah again because she thinks they are having a weird disagreement about things.

Later the boys return from the Captains Quarters, and George has smuggled some chocolate out. He gives it to Layla as a present. She is very happy and gives him a hug.

Ben says to Josh “can Ray go back to the Captains Quarters?” Josh agrees, and Ben adds that Ray’s brain has been poisoned by something. “I think he’s put pesticide on his head and he’s turned into a pest”. Ben continues that he thought it would be good that Ray returned because it makes him go to the gym, but now he just want to his Ray. “Ray has the presence of five people”.

10.29am – Layla is still contemplating where she stands with George, after overhearing yesterday that George has a love interest outside the house. Angie reminds her to be super careful and be the one with the upper hand. Layla doesn’t want to continue the bed sharing with George any further.

There’s another inter-house challenge. The housemates must paint a self portrait which will be judged by the public on Facebook. Ben must snap at all of the housemates to shut up a few times, particularly targeting Bradley.

Later on the painting has started and Ben has a clear vision for the self portrait mural. He’s not happy with Estelle putting a skateboard, horse and rainbow next to her in the picture.

During a break in the painting, Stacey says to Ben “I hate Bradley, he’s so annoying”. Ben replies “I hate Estelle as well, why can’t they follow simple instructions”. Stacey wants to make sure Sarah is not left with a tiny amount of space. Sarah says they need to get Estelle out of the mural area otherwise other housemates won’t fit onto the canvas.

3.43pm – Painting has finished. Ben comments he looks like Bert from Bert and Ernie. They all take a photo with them next to their portraits.

Later, the fake “results” are in. The winner is House 2. The house looks very discouraged – saying “this means we’re not popular with the public”. Michael reminds them all to not doubt themselves too much over it.

Josh comes to the diary room and explains the inter-house challenge has made them feel like the spotlight has been taken off them and they may not be really be getting their time in the sun.

The mural portrait from House 2 is revealed to the housemates. It’s considerably better than their effort. They don’t believe it’s real. Layla says “this is the biggest stitch in Big Brother history”. Some say that if it is real it’s good because they won because they’re the better painting, not because they are more popular.

8.36pm – Inter-house challenge – they must guess the number closest to the other house’s combined age. House 1 wins. Ben does a victory lap of the backyard before changing the scoreboard.

Later Ben tells Sarah he must convince the other housemates there’s another house to lift their spirits. Sarah says it’s not a matter of convincing them – there really is another house. Ben’s face doesn’t look very convinced.

Bradley is telling a story about a girl he loved in high school. He made a card for her that said:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
There’s nothing in the world
More perfect than you*

* Except for the Dark Knight

Ben comes into the kitchen and calls a house meeting. He says he thinks most housemates don’t believe there’s a second house. Ben says being Head of House there’s another house and if you don’t believe there isn’t, he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. He wants a winning attitude in the house from now on. The only way they’re going to win is to have a positive attitude. “If I hear anything about there not being another house, I will no longer be Head of House and I’ll leave it up to chaos”.

Layla and George are cuddling in bed. She says she’s staying away from him and he says “no don’t”. They giggle and cuddle.

Day 24

9.22am – Most of the housemates are contemplating how they’re losing in the inter-house challenge with (fictitious) House 2. However, the scoreboard is showing House 2 has three points, when the housemates believe it should only show two points. They didn’t think the cake challenge yesterday was for a point. Ray especially, who thinks it’s Big Brother’s mistake. He changes the House 2 score back to two points.

Last night Bradley came to the diary room to apologise on behalf of the house for last night’s cake fight, which he did not like one bit. He thinks the way the other housemates acted was disgraceful. Now Angie is telling the others she did not accept Bradley’s attitude towards it. She believes he is an adult and should have dealt with it maturely rather than running to Big Brother. Estelle respects that Bradley stood on his own and said what was on his mind.

Later the housemates are asked to pair up for the Captains Quarters challenge. Outside they find mats where they must stand on. Each pair must rest a foam love heart inbetween their mouths for as long as possible. Michael and Josh are out first at 3 minutes 35 seconds. Then Stacey and Benjamin and almost immediately after Zoe and Angie. Finally Layla and Sarah at 5 minutes, Estelle and Bradley 26 seconds later, leaving Ray and George the winners.

12.02pm – Ray and George are going to the Captains Quarters. Later they toast to the win over dinner, with some typical blokey chats. They talk about the girls and George says Layla would be the best chick – Sarah is way too positive for him.

The rest of the house is making a song for Layla because she makes oats for everyone in the morning. “Oats a-la Layla”.

Meanwhile in the Captains Quarters Ray is complaining that no one sings for Ray who scrubs the dishes. “I spend more time scrubbing dishes than Layla does cooking food”.

Meanwhile in the main house bedroom the girls are talking about how they plain-out hate Ray. Zoe has slowly noticed the aggression Ray shows, the girls agree. Angie says the first thing Ray said to her was “you look like my ex-girlfriend so this is going to be weird” and it’s gone downhill from there. Every time Zoe looks at Ray now she has a surge of thinking “why are you here!?” Stacey can’t look his eyes. They feel sorry for him because they think he’s oblivious.

Outside the two 30-somethings, Ben and Sarah are chatting. Ben says that doing the laundry is therapeutic because he can’t hear everyone else and all the “aahs” and “errs” and “likes” in the conversations: “have you ever noticed that with these people? Have you noticed how much Angie says ‘like’? Sarah agrees.

Cut to footage of Angie talking about her and Josh and saying like like like like like.

Angie then has a long conversation about her and Josh and it’s very incoherent. The legist is “we’re having a good time and it’s nothing serious and can everyone please stop making it out to be something it’s not”.

Zoe comes to the diary room and explains she just wanted to come have a chat. She thought she was confident and gets along with everyone in the house but there’s a feeling in her stomach making her feel uneasy. “There’s no one in that group who I can sit down and talk to, it’s hard”. She starts crying.

1.27pm – Ben comes to the diary room. He’s feeling very strained about being head of household in the inter-house challenge and wants more evidence that House 2 actually exists. Big Brother says there is enough evidence already, and there are many more points to be grabbed and Ben should rally his troops around him.

The next challenge is a boot scooting / line dancing competition. The HMs are watching a video on how to dance. Sarah is very excitable “we’re gonna kill it!”. They have two hours to learn the moves and Ben must select a choreographer. If no one has choreography skills he’s going with Zoe because she’s from the country. She volunteers anyway. Turns out she’s line danced before.

Bradley is having huge problems dancing to a beat, he dancing terribly. Josh bangs a beat and he slowly gets into a groove. Later outside the housemates are practicing when Sarah pulls Estelle aside and reminds her to not to get discouraged. Layla is mentoring Bradley. Sarah takes control at one point to mentor Zoe. For showtime, the housemates have all been given country costumes. House 1 dances first – Michael has straw in his mouth to complete the look. The strongest dancers are at the front and do fairly well. There’s stragglers at the back. They all cheer when they finish.

5.54pm – Results time. House 1 have won. Later, George and Ray are in the Captains Quarters spa and George is discussing how it feels like he’s in a couple with Layla now. Unknown to the two guys, Layla can hear them through the walls. She motions Stacey to come join her and the put their ears up to the wall in the outside toilet. George continues, saying the first thing he’ll do when he gets out of the Big Brother house is phone a girl he’s had an on-and-off relationship with. He’s previously told Layla he’s single. George then says he wants to have a family with this girl.

Layla wonders why George would be kissing her on national television all the while wanting to have kids with this other woman. She doesn’t want to be a “stepping stone”. The girls realise they don’t want to listen any further.

Later George is lighting some candles in the bedroom and Ray says “you know how I know you’re gay, because you like those candles and you like the smell of them”

8.35pm – The housemates are asked to write a letter to (fictional) House 2. The end result is:

Dear House Two,

It’s really exciting to have this opportunity to write to you. Congratulations on your two wins. We like to relate our lives to the Rhianna song “We found love in a hopeless place” and we really feel this has been a great chance to meet amazing people in an extraordinary environment. We hope your experience has been as fulfilling as ours. Best of luck in the next round of up and coming challenges. Looking forward to having a drink with you at the end of this. More than just 1. Smiley face.

Love and lols. Love,
House One.

PS. We hope Gretta and Tyson’s relationship is blossoming.

Layla runs to the bathroom because she felt people kept her out of the task. “She’s a beautician, she’s not clever – thats what they presume”.

Layla has come to the diary room to vent to Big Brother. She’s so used to people listening to her but it’s not happening in the house and she can’t take it anymore. Layla is crying.

Bradley is being asked to do the dishes. Four people nominated him this week for being lazy around the house. Bradley resists at first but eventually gives in.

Later on, the housemates are shown footage from House 2. It’s three guys sitting around talking about this girl one of them is really into. The second guy then talks about how he’s glad he’s sharing a bed with some hot girl. There’s a token gay guy in the mix as well. After the footage, Michael points out that the boys in the house had a similar conversation – which is the hottest girl. Bradley makes a point of saying Josh thought Estelle was the hottest (not Angie).

Josh: Yeah… thanks bro.

Ben: Bradley you’re like the rat in Charlotte’s web except that we wish you died.

Bradley doesn’t look impressed.

10.21pm – The letter from (fictional) House 2 has arrived. Ben reads it:

Thanks for the cake, it tasted good! We were lucky to win that one. We watched your episode and we reckon you are funnier, but we are hotter. Also, your house is bigger. Hope Big Bro lets us move into it once we smash you at the challenges. LOL. The challenges are stressful but they have brought us together as a group. Best of luck. See you at the after party? If you exist.

The housemates are offended: “they are so not hotter”. They agree the boys aren’t hotter and Gretta has been on a diet since 2002 – her personality diet.

Ben suggest they all give their clothes up and only wear underwear in exchange to see a full episode of footage from House 2.

Ben: Bradley you can keep wearing your clothes because your body is hideous!

In the diary room Ben proposes this to Big Brother. BB replies that he will consider the request.

Day 23

The scores are now 1 point each for both houses.

12.28pm – Josh, Bradley and Ray are out by the BBQ talking about the two houses.

Bradley: I think it’s cool if there was a second house, but I would not be surprised if there wasn’t
Ray: I was surprised we couldn’t hear anything during the marathon
Josh: I feel like maybe this task is not for just this week, it’s for a couple of weeks to keep us going that there is a second house. I could be completely wrong… but if there’s one thing that I’ve learnt about this game so far, it’s that you can’t believe anything you are told

Benjamin and Michael are whispering on the couch about the footage of House 2 that Big Brother has shown them.

Benjamin: The other house looked very different to us, and they looked more chummy than us… it just looked… fake
Michael: I’m 95% there it’s just the whole… why would they waste their time? Maybe that was two weeks to get to know each other and the favourite housemates from that get to join house one. Maybe that’s like… the second rate ones

Angie joins them and says that she doesn’t understand why they would split the housemates at all.

Benjamin: I don’t think there’s a second house.
Angie: I don’t think so either.
Benjamin: I can feel it.

The three of them continue speculating. Angie thinks that the best social experiment would be for Big Brother to make the housemates think there is a second house, and see what happens with relationships and dynamics within the house (ding ding ding, she’s on it).

Big Brother calls Ray, Bradley and Sarah to the Diary Room. House 1 and House 2 have to bake cakes for each other, to be served as desert at tonight’s dinner party. The three nominees are the only housemates allowed to bake the cake – and it will be judged by Big Brother. The winner will get to see an entire episode of the show from the other house.

The three go out to tell the rest of the housemates their challenge. Angie isn’t impressed: “If they had a full episode for each house it would be like having two TV shows. I’m not buying it, Big Brother. Show me something new.”

Estelle and Benjamin are talking in the bedroom. Benjamin asks Estelle if she would beat herself up if she started having feelings for a different housemate now that Ryan is gone. He says he doesn’t see how Ryan and her lives went together. He thinks that Estelle and Josh would be a good match.

Ad break.

3.12pm – Ray, Bradley, and Sarah are baking in the kitchen. Sarah suggests they bake a cake in the shape of a house. Most of the others are in the backyard talking about Estelle and how she hasn’t spoken much about Ryan since he left on Sunday. Benjamin says he thinks that Estelle is probably already moving on to her next male interest in the house. Zoe suggests Josh, and Benjamin says that the most amount of chemistry he has seen in the house was when he saw the two of them together on his first night.

Layla: I would lose a lot of respect if she did. Because of how Ryan was with her
Zoe: Would you Josh?
Josh: Nah… Ummm…
Zoe: Too far in?
Benjmain: No, Josh, put it this way. I could see if you thought it was just a bit of fun and it wasn’t anything serious, i can see you saying “yeah, whatever.”
Zoe: But don’t you think Angie would get hurt?
Josh: Yeah, definitely.

Back in the kitchen the three are putting the cake in to baking trays.

Zoe and Estelle are in the garden watching as Josh and Benjamin pretend to surf on the other side.

Zoe: He’s so attractive…
Estelle: You love a bit of Josh don’t ya
Zoe: I love him so much… he’s my eye candy
Estelle: Ryan looked too pretty sometimes..
Zoe: Josh is that rugged hot look
Estelle: I woke up beside Ryan and it’s like, stop looking so good as soon as you wake up
Zoe: Would you ever pick up josh?
Estelle: Nup. It’s funny, because when I first came in to the house, before Ryan was here, and I thought of the people I would most get along with and it was Josh. But he’s been weird with me ever since I hooked up with Ryan.
Zoe: It’s because he thought the same thing. There’s so much chemistry there…
Estelle: That’s what Benjamin said…
Zoe: He just wants a taste of the Stell-meister
Estelle: Angie will kill you if she hears me

Angie comes over and asks what they’re talking about, they say her and Josh. She says that the two of them have a great friendship with some flirty banter tacked on and it’s great. Angie then leaves.

Zoe: We must be talking really loudly… she must have heard
Estelle: She really likes him, you can tell by the way she looks at him

Elsewhere in the garden, Stacey (in an amazing leopard print outfit) and Layla are talking about Sarah. They think she’s been quiet this week since nominations. They don’t know what they can do to make her feel better.

Big Brother announces the 10 minute call for the cake bakers… cue montage… then the ten second call. The cake doesn’t look bad, but it’s not great either.

Ad break.

Big Brother has given the housemates their next house vs. house challenge: a game of chess. They quickly decide that Zoe and Michael will play, even though Angie says she was a chess champion in school. A kid named Kevin, a 10 year old Queensland chess champion in the Diary Room – he’s pretending to be the second house in the game. A giant chess set has been placed in the backyard. Cheesy, brooding techno music plays while the housemates battle House 2 aka Kevin. House 1 loses. Sarah is gravely confused about the rules of chess and Bradley is trying to explain to her on the sidelines.

The scores are House 1 on 1 point, House 2 on 2 points.

The housemates are chatting about the task and Angie repeats that she was the chess champion in primary school. He asks why she didn’t say anything, she says she did and he looks frustrated.

Later, in the lounge room, Michael calls Benjamin over and says that for the next task they all need to come together before they decide, because some housemates aren’t willing to get up and battle when they should.

Michael is in the Diary Room. He says he feels the burden of being labelled a genius in the house, because any of the tasks that are not physically based he’s immediately put forward and feels responsible for winning. “I also feel a bit vulnerable that my perceived strength isn’t coming to fruition.”

Ad break.

8.27pm – Josh and Angie are talking in the bathroom. Josh thinks he’ll reassess the idea of Big Brother being the easiest thing that you’ll ever do. “You don’t have to get up and go to work but you don’t have your friends… it’s a massive test of mental strength.” Angie says that imagining Big Brother as a fat guy eating donuts and pushing a button gets her through the day. Josh says he’s a restless person and he’s got himself in to a position in his life where is he happy because of diversity in his job and lifestyle. He likes the band lifestyle because he can have his Adelaide life and then be off in another city for a weekend.

Angie: Have you thought about how that is going to work long term?
Josh: Nup.

Later, the housemates are sitting down to their weekly family dinner. This week’s theme is Mexican and Sarah, Bradley and Ray are in ponchos. The first topic is from Estelle: “gossip, is it necessary in the house?” She asks whether people do it to entertain themselves or whether it’s part of their character. Layla says that she was brought up not to gossip and she tries not to at all – Estelle agrees. Sarah thinks they’re all doing a good job at combating gossip.

Big Brother calls the three nominated housemates to the Diary Room to pick up the cake that was baked by House 2. On the way, Bradley says that if the cake is professionally baked he’ll start prescribing to the theory that there is no second house. When they arrive, they’re all upset – the cake is huge and is in perfect form. “There is no second house!” yells Bradley.

Ad break.

11.31pm – Big Brother announces that the winner of the cake baking competition is House 2. The housemates grab the cake and throw it on the ground. Michael pulls his pants down and sits on it and the rest of the housemates start throwing cake at each other. Bradley runs out and looks visibly distressed that the others are fighting with the cake. Hilarity ensues.

Layla comes to the Diary Room. “I just want to say thank you for picking me, because I have experienced the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. It was so wrong but it was so right. I’ve always, always wanted to shove cake in someone’s face. I’ve always wanted to have a food fight and oh my gosh… I feel so happy.”

Next up Michael is in the Diary Room. He says it’s the best thing that’s happened to him since he came in to the house, and the fact that they could destroy the thing that’s been tearing them apart has made them all so happy.

The housemates are cleaning the kitchen, and Bradley’s still not impressed. He asks Michael how he would feel if he knew that the other house had spent three hours baking, only to destroy the cake. He comes to the Diary Room to apologise for the house for their actions and says he doesn’t condone anything that happened. He thinks the way the other housemates acted was disgraceful.

Bradley comes to the kitchen and is talking to Sarah. She asks why he went to the Diary Room and he tells her that he went to talk about what just happened, in a negative way. Sarah thinks that it was funny that they had a food fight and he’s taking it a bit too seriously.

Day 22

The following footage takes place during Day 21.

8.31pm – The housemates are sitting in the couch after the nominations announcement – this week it’s Sarah on 12 points, Bradley on 13 points and Ray on 15 points. Sarah walks in to the bedroom and Ray follows. “12 points is a lot, isn’t it?” “Not really, when you were on 17 the week before. What goes around comes around.” says Benjamin.

Ray is telling Bradley that he feels like he can be himself and not worry about what anyone thinks about him, because he is already nominated. He wants to win one more challenge before his time is up. “We started as a team and we end us a team.”

Back in the bedroom, Layla and Estelle have joined Sarah and Benjamin.

Benjamin: Are you allowed to say – are you glad you had this particular advantage?
Estelle: (waving arms) not… I don’t think I can talk about it.
Benjamin: Do you think it will effect your time this week?
Estelle: Yeah…
Layla: Don’t let it, we can’t have you upset as well.
Estelle: Nah, I’ve been through the rollercoaster. I’ve cried when I’m nominated.

Sarah is in the Diary Room. Big Brother asks her how she felt when she heard her name announced. She says she was numb for a little bit, and that it’s easy to tell from other housemates faces which ones nominated you. “You love these people and you’re so close with them… you just wanna punch them all in the face, you really do!” She starts crying. “It’s hard, you just don’t think it’s going to be this hard.”

In the bathroom, Bradley and George are chatting.

George: Bradley you nom nom victim. It’s all you bloody are.
Bradley: But… I got less points than this time! Last time I got 16, this time 13. That’s one less person that absolutely hates me.
Layla: No one hates you…
George, joking: I hate you!

Stacey, Sarah and Benjamin are by the BBQ. “Some people are just absolute pests,” says Stacey. Sarah says that some of the housemates who hugged her after the announcement clearly didn’t mean it.

Benjamin comes to the diary room. He tells Big Brother that he can’t be too excited out in the house because one of his friends is up for eviction, but he’s really grateful that he gets to stay another week. “The twist really scares me, because I nominated Estelle and then she went to go and see stuff… and I wonder if she knows I nominated her?”

Big Brother: Is it fair to say that the confidentiality of nominations is frustrating for you?
Benjamin: It is… but I’m glad I read the rules last night because the confidentially is frustrating for me and I have a big mouth and need to shut up.

On his way out he bumps in to Sarah, on her way in to the Diary Room.

Sarah: I wanna start upping people like you did.
Benjamin: Upping people, what do you mean?
Sarah: Like, I want to say to Ray, really so it wasn’t over, cause Bradley just said that you said, “Oh, was it over?” Like, lie to my face why don’t you? Be a man.
Benjamin: Do what I did, don’t wait three days, go up to him at one point and say “yo yo yo”.
Sarah: And George, too…
Benjamin: It’s the same two people that I was having a problem with last week.
Sarah: I just feel really betrayed.
Benjamin: You don’t know that they nominated you though
Sarah: I do, I can see it in their eyes. I can see it in Estelle’s eyes.
Benjamin: I’m going to tell you what right now, that if you do what I did last week and believe that you know the nominations, it’s going to make it impossible to… [Zoe interrupts]

Later in the night, Big Brother calls the two of them to the diary room. He tells them that for the last 40 minutes he has been listening closely to their conversation, and that it is a fundamental rule of Big Brother not to discuss nominations or who they believe nominated them. “Despite constant warnings to all housemates, the two of you seem to think this rule does not apply to you. It does.” Both housemates are issued a formal strike. “I’m so sorry,” says Sarah to Benjamin.

Ad break.

Day 22.

8.46am – The housemates are called to the bedroom and told about their challenges against the other house for the next few weeks. They are told they need to elect a head of house – unanimously they appoint Benjamin. He’s called to the Diary Room to collect the task notes, which he reads out to the others. “Housemates be warned. This challenge is not a sprint. It is a marathon. Good luck, and may the best house win.”

Housemates have to run a 42KM marathon on the treadmill. Michael suggests that the slow runners go first, then the rest run at no less than 16KM/h. Benjamin is first to get up to the treadmill.

Big Brother: House 2, that means you must get on to the treadmill.

The real housemates all laugh. Footage is then spliced in from the fake House 2, with the actors laying by the pool relaxing – not a treadmill in sight. (The real housemates don’t see this).

Cue montage of male housemates without shirts and female housemates in running gear running on the treadmill to inspiring orchestral music. “My legs aren’t long enough to go this fast,” complains Angie. At the half way point, the treadmill starts smoking. “House 1 and House 2, stop the treadmills and step away. Official timing has been suspended,” announces Big Brother.

Ad break.

Zoe and Layla are in the lounge.

Layla: Oh my god, I don’t think I can do it. I don’t even know how long a kilometer is…
Zoe: We should have gone first… then we wouldn’t feel bad..
Layla: We might have to do more than a kilometer now…

In the bathroom, Benjamin is telling some of the girls that they should have two goals: short term goal, kill that other house; long term goal, everyone in here should want to win. He hopes that the houses will merge and one won’t be shut down. Sarah thinks that she’ll be pretty funny around other 30 year olds. Benjamin thinks even though he’s 32 he acts like the youngest person in the house. He goes on to tell Michael that he’s the alphamale in the house.

Michael: I’d prefer you didn’t call me that… purely because I know what other men think about that term. Because George will go “no I’m the alphamale” and Ray would say “well I’m the alphamale”.
Benjamin: Really?

The treadmill has been replaced and the housemates have to restart the task. Benjamin is continuing his run which was interrupted when the treadmill broke down.

In the kitchen, Angie says that she wants to do another kilometer. Estelle says she’s also happy to get back on and do a couple of kilometers. Angie tries to say that she wants to get back on because she’s not been on for a while, but Estelle cuts her off and talks over her. Angie stops talking.

Sarah: The boys can do 16 (kilometers), let’s get them doing that, Angie and I are going next and then just leave it. Or Angie, you get on and do your thing…
Estelle: If you don’t wanna run Angie, I’m more than happy to…
Sarah: She knows, Estelle, she absolutely knows.
Estelle: Can I just say, I feel like I can’t have any input any more because people are just cutting me off. I just wanna say I can run because I’m fit, I know I can smash it.

Zoe swaps with Benjamin on the treadmill.

Sarah: Sorry for cracking it, but people have heard you say it maybe thirty times that you wanna do it.
Estelle: I know, it’s just hard, because we’re fit, and we can offer something.
Sarah: I know, just… enough. We all feel like that, we’ve heard it… so… I’ve said the same thing, but I haven’t said it twenty times. Otherwise you’d want to punch me in the face, and right now…
Estelle: It’s just that I’ve been cut off every time I’ve said it.
Sarah: No you haven’t.

Ad break.

1.35pm – Zoe is replaced by Layla on the treadmill. “Please got help me,” she says.

Sarah: I feel bad, her [Estelle] boyfriend just got kicked out…
Angie: Yeah, she’s not happy.
Sarah: I just had to tell her to stop talking about it.
Angie: Yeah, it was really awkward. I’d just prefer her to come up here and do it than for me to cop it for the next…
Sarah: Yeah, just drop me off. I’m off. That’s fine. It’s for the best, then there’s no awkwardness.

In the kitchen, Estelle tells Ray and George that everyone was getting upset with her and that she just wanted to say that she can run and they should just consider her. “I wasn’t being a bitch, I can run fast, just consider me. At the moment I feel like everyone is so quick to jump on me when I have a suggestion.”

Rocky-esque music starts as Ray, George, Benjamin then Josh take turns running. They finish the 42KM and all start cheering.

Later, in the backyard, Ray asks George if he saw how hot the girls in the other house were.

Ray: What happened to the chicks in this house? I mean… I was expecting… I suppose Sarah is… they’re all, like, hot, but those chicks in the other house… whoah. I’m just hell jelly man. It could be us in the other house, and there’s no dude competition, just that big fat dude.
George: Yeah, big time, hey.
Ray: That’s the problem in this house man. There’s you, swinging from branch to branch, Joshy running bloody marathons, Ryan thank god he’s not around any more… man, I’m struggling man, I’m sleepin by maself, it sarrks.
George: But Ray, you are a bit of a loser.
Ray: Yeah, I’ll pay dat… thank you… thank you…

All housemates are called to the lounge to find out which house ran the fastest. The winner wins one point in the battle. House 1 completed in 3 hours, 16 minutes and 32 seconds. House 2 “completed” in 3 hours, 19 minutes and 21 seconds. All the housemates cheer, hug, and scream. They form a huddle: “House 1!”

Big Brother shows House 1 some “footage” from House 2. Fake housemate Greta and Tyson are talking about soulmates – it’s insipid, to say the least. “Maybe if people don’t travel enough they won’t find their soulmate,” says Tyson. “Maybe you’ve been looking in the wrong place…” The footage cuts out and the housemates are instantly skeptical that what they saw is real.

Benjamin: I’ve got a hunch that we’ve been skitched. That was the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard.
Sarah: I thought it was real, they were nervous and flirting…
Stacey: We all sat around saying “describe your perfect guy, describe your perfect girl,” we all said really cheesy stuff.
Layla: Do you think there is really another house?
Josh: I dunno… I’m skeppy as…

Stacey, Josh and Layla are on the orb couch outside.

Josh: Now that Ryan’s gone, they’ve lost the relationship from the house. So now I feel like it’s going to be more focused on Layla and George and myself and Ange.
Layla: Yeah we’ve made a decision. We’re gonna not sleep on the same side of the bed any more… it’s getting a bit… last night it got a bit too hot.
Stacey: Oh, Josh, you know what pesky Ray said just before…
Josh: No, tell me, what did Ray-dar say?
Stacey: He said he wanted to swap the girls he saw on the telly with us.
Josh: Steady on Ray-dar… steady on… he’s perfectly harmless, but he’s not the kind of guy I would choose to spend my time with. He’s like a mate of a best mate, you know what I mean?

Zoe’s in the bathroom when Surly the fish starts talking to her. Layla and Sarah bust in. “Who were you talking to just then Zoe? I could hear a guy?”

Later, Layla is outside telling Michael she heard Zoe talking to a guy’s cockney voice in the bathroom and it wasn’t Big Brother. [Michael has already experienced Surly talking, and was given a task from him in the second week].

Michael: What did he say?
Layla: All I could hear her say was “in the next two weeks” or something… and then I started giggling and opened the door and it stopped.
Michael: Do you think she’s just going mental?
Layla: It was a man! Honestly! It wasn’t Big Brother! I feel like everyone knows something that I don’t!

4.57pm – George has joined Michael and Layla outside, where they are still discussing what just happened with Zoe. “Maybe Surly can talk!” says Layla.

Back in the bathroom, Zoe tells Surly to ask Big Brother if the second house has a pet too. She does – Big Brother says that House 2 does have a pet, an octopus named Rodney. She heads back to tell Surly the news. Surly says that he wants Zoe to win because he doesn’t want to go back to the outside world, a shark might eat him. He sets Zoe a task: burst in to tears and tell another housemate that she is really stressed out, and that all of the housemates need to work together and try harder. If she wins, Surly will cook dinner for her. Zoe finds Sarah in the bedroom and turns on the waterworks pretty quickly.

Later, Zoe is called to the Diary Room where the meal she missed out on last week in the Captain’s Quarters is served. The rest of the housemates are eating pork and vegetables in the kitchen.

Day 21

Footage from Monday’s nomination show.

The housemates are freaking out about the “accidental” slip up of Sonia talking about House 1 and House 2. Layla thinks that it’s a joke, Benjamin thinks it’s not, the others are just yelling over one another. Michael says that there would have heard if there was another house nearby, and that “Big Brother would never make a monumental mistake like that.” All of the housemates change their opinions like a revolving door. Big Brother announced that the housemates can leave the lounge room.

In the bedroom, Michael is looking at the bookcase door which leads to the Executive Bathroom. “This is confusing me,” he mutters to himself.

Out in the back yard, Ray is climbing the wall trying to see if he can spot the other house over the fence. He thinks that maybe some light in the distance could be the spot. The housemates are called to the Diary Room.

Big Brother: Housemates. You have heard something tonight that you were not supposed to. The existence of the second house. The viewers have been watching you, in what has been referred to as ‘House 1’ and a second group of housemates in ‘House 2’. Both houses played the secrets game, both housemates have nominated and both houses have just had their second eviction. It was Big Brother’s intention to inform both houses of each other’s existence at a later date. But, tonight’s unfortunate slip up has left Big Brother with no other option but to bring forward the original plan which was due in a few weeks time. Beginning tomorrow, and continuing over several weeks, both houses will compete in a series of challenges against each other. The house that wins the most challenges will stay and continue on in the game. The losing house will be closed, and housemates will return to their normal lives.

Michael asks whether they can base nominations on the fact that challenges need to be completed in order to win – Big Brother says they are.

Big Brother tells the housemates that he showed the second house a highlights package of both houses to ensure that the housemates had no doubt that another house existed. He says that he will show the housemates shortly. “I can just assure you that we are going to win,” says Sarah.

In the lounge room, the housemates are waiting for the highlights reel to be played. Layla says she doesn’t want 14 new housemates and that she wouldn’t be able to be herself. The video package plays – 28 housemates, two houses, $250,000.

Josh: The way I’m dealing with this is just… there’s no second house. I’m just gonna keep doing what I’m doing. Why should we change the way we are interacting with one another? It’s been going okay, there’s been no major problems, let’s just keep doing what we’ve been doing.
Sarah: The girls look really hot and skinny…
Bradley: Who cares if they’re hotter than us, who cares if they’re smarter than us, they seem to me like the more “traditional” housemates, so they’ve clearly put us in here for who we are so we should just keep on keeping on as we are.
Estelle: I think we just naturally have to keep going…
Sarah: The strongest team is going to win!
Benjamin: I think it’s going to make us stronger. We are going to stop competing with each other and we are so together. And if you hate someone in the house, go up to them and say to them, you know what, we’re a team. We can’t have three days not liking each other. We’re gonna have no days of not liking each other.

Zoe is clearly pissed off there is a second house. She’s gone red and looks surly. “But it’s so mean, you come in here knowing you could be evicted and your time could be up early, the fact that you’ve given up your life to come in here and the possibility that they could shut down just one house because you lose a bloody challenge, it really pisses me off.”

Benjamin: Who cares, the other house is crap, we’re just going to beat them!
Stacey: Let’s just stick to what we’ve been doing and we’ll deal with whatever we have to deal with when it comes, as a collective.

Zoe comes to the Diary Room. She thinks that the house doesn’t have the glue that keeps the house together anymore and that they are falling apart. “I am scared that with this whole thing … we’re going to fall apart. People are going to start concentrating on what should be done and what we think needs to be done for challenges instead of just being ourselves.”

In the bedroom, Michael chatting with Estelle, Stacey, Angie, Josh, Brad and Layla. He says that he does not want this to change anything or anyone to be pushed to do something different. Benjamin says that there is a division in the house – one in the bedroom and one outside, and both are saying different things. One says they need to fitness and emotional workouts, and the other is the polar opposite.

Back in the Diary Room, Zoe says there are 14 people and she is anxious to have a little chance to get to know them “but I am actually genuinely freaking out.”
