Day 13

9.31pm – Hayley and Andrew enter the rewards room, all laughs and smiles and hugs. The rest of the housemates are in the living room, and Thomas explains how different the tasks were during Friday Night Live. The tasks ranged in difficulty in a huge way. BB calls all housemates to the bedroom, and when they are in there the glass screen is revealed. Everyone sees the food Hayley and Andrew get to eat, and the glass is quickly shut again. Andrew tells Hayley he was almost in tears when she won, he asks if she feels bad for the others – she doesn’t… kinda… no. Hayley says it would be far more enjoyable for them too then another combination of two housemates. Back in the living room Travis explains anyone can win FNL now. Bodie seems to have a different theory – there is a large element of luck (is this because he didn’t win?). In the bathroom the girls all say its great the females are winning the games, and that the boys are still having problems they can’t cut it.

Hayley and Andrew are in the rewards room bathtub kissing. Hayley says “we are so good, we are so good”. Meanwhile outside the housemates are around the pool and convince Bodie and TJ to pash infront of everyone else. The rewards room couple say they are so proud of Jamie beating Travis during the games – he proved its all in the head. She thinks not enough housemates give him the time, and apparently Jamie has a crush on Rebecca. Apparently Zoran has a crush on Susannah. The housemates outside are next chanting for Aleisha to kiss Billy. She screams noo…. and it doesn’t happen.

BREAK

11.17pm – The reward room housemates are in the diary room. Big Brother announces they are allowed to discuss nominations when in the rewards room. Neither of them can tell the other housemates they have been given this power. Andrew is relieved he thought it would be another task. They are dismissed. Rebecca is off to bed and kisses goodnight the housemates around the pool. She jokes there was a “turn in there” when Jamie kisses her.

11.56pm – Andrew tells Hayley right now he would nominate Kate and Bodie – Kate is pissing him off. They start to list Joel – no. Rebecca can get on your nerves but no. Jamie awesome.

Jamie and Rebecca are lying in bed together. She tells him she can be proud she didn’t change herself at all to fit in this house. Jamie says she needs to understand that as much as she fits in the house, he doesn’t. And they are outsiders in the house. He clarifies he didn’t try to turn when they kissed, Rebecca says its fine and that it was quite funny. As Jamie leaves the bedroom Joel walks passed and gives him a suspicious smile. Bodie is going to bed and must give TJ a kiss doonight. Actually it turns into a pull on pash in the kitchen. She follows him into the bedroom.

Back in the rewards room they’ve narrowed down the top three to nominate – Bodie, TJ and Kate. Hayley hopes Bodies goes on the weekend – he just holds so many people back.

Speak of the devil – Bodie is in bed with TJ and she strokes his head. They cuddle each other and have puppydog pillow chat. TJ seems to want to kiss and make out but Bodie only wants to cuddle, which annoys TJ. She rolls back the other way and Bodie starts asking what the matter is. Bodie says “what you say influences me as well, you understand what I’m saying”. TJ responds angrily with “I’m not going to change who I am for anyone and you need to realise whats going on around you… your life”. She angrily gets out of Bodie’s bed and moves to her own spot.

The rewards room couple get into their own bed and test out the bed elevator… they joke they could squash themselves in the bed and have a long giggle.

Aleisha asks TJ if she is ok and why she’s sleeping away from Bodie. TJ says.. (leans over to Aleisha) “because Bodie is being a pig, he’s too worried about what we say and do and how it looks to his friends and family”. Joel is evesdropping from his bed.

They just don’t get it

Update 3/5: I take it all back ;)

Today the producers decided to cancel a task. It involved the housemates randomly dividing up into male/female pairs, with each pair then being given custody of a fake baby that they had to take care of as if it were real. However, within a couple of hours of the HMs being given their task it was mysteriously cancelled. Live streaming was cut for some time and all references to the task (including forum discussion) on the OS were deleted.

When the feeds returned Kate was in tears, being consoled by the other HMs. The explanation that many of our forum users have agreed upon is that she once suffered a miscarriage or some other kind of severe pregnancy-related trauma, and so in the interests of her emotional wellbeing the task was called off.

I don’t have a problem with this – cancelling the task was clearly the right step. What I have an issue with is the cover-up they have immediately instigated. Why? Instead of acting like it never existed, why can’t they just explain to the public what the issue was? One of BB’s favourite nomination lines is “Be honest, what are you saying?” Well, perhaps BB could practice what he preaches and just tell us what happened.

I am a firm believer in the concept that you should treat the audience like it is an intelligent creature. That’s how you gain the viewer’s respect. Much of the criticism and cynicism seen on this very site comes from the fact that people simply don’t respect the BB producers. In this enlightened day and age the audience is very much aware of the workings of the TV industry. Even if BB’s target audience is the stereotypical teen girl who never sees anything wrong with the show, we all know that there are a large number of mature viewers who can’t be fooled as easily. Those are the ones that the producers need to show respect to if they have any hope of receiving it in return. Simply pressing the ‘delete’ button whenever something goes wrong is not the way to do this.

What I find most fascinating is that is was only 24 hours ago that the exact opposite thing was happening. Yesterday, the remaining white room housemates decided they would quit as a group by all pressing the red button at the same time. BB immediately intervened, and basically told them that they would be leaving within two days. But not only was this NOT covered, up, the OS actually wrote a news item about it! Perhaps they’ll eventually do the same for what has happened today, but as I write this it doesn’t look too likely.

I’m disappointed with this old-media cover up approach BB has adopted with today’s events. They had a chance to explain to viewers what happened and why the task was cancelled, but instead decided to edit history and pretend nothing happened.

Discuss the cancelled baby task in our forums here.

Why the nerd turns me on (by RB)

Jamie is the find of BB07 for me. While Bodie & Thomas have the looks, it’s Jamie’s mind that has me fascinated.

The task of finding the secret relationship did it for me. Who would have thought to look at the serial numbers on the photo papers of housemates photos. How insanely smart is that. How many of us would have thought to do that?

I know know, I’ve been reading the forums. Many of you think he’s boring, bland, no personality blah blah blah. Well who says, little Miss Emma, who has a big personality. Pity it’s not one I like. Who else in the house thinks Jamie is boring? Bodie who can’t stand not to be the centre of attention and Aliesha. Poor little Aleisha who already has succumbed to the evil clutches of the queen bitch Emma.

While the focus has been on Hayley and her love triangle we haven’t had an opportunity to see or hear much from Jamie and the others. We’ve had the watered down TJ incident, the Emma vs Kate, but not much else. We’ve hardly seen or heard from the others, I’d almost forgotten about Susanna & Zoran. Hopefully now the love triangle storyline is over, we can start to see some more of the other housemates. Personally I’ve seen enough of Hayley for quite a while.

I want to see more of Jamie’s conversations. I want to explore his mind more. But what I really want to see is BB give Jamie an insider type task. He would do this job justice, unlike Michael of last year. Jamie is smart enough to pull it off without alienating himself from the group. He could mix things up and make this year very interesting. So hopefully BB has taken note of Jamie’s investigating skills and will set him a new task very soon.

toiletducks response:  To be honest, I rather do like Jamie. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like him that way, but I find that having a nerd in the house, well having anyone in the house, who doesn’t spend 5 hours in front of a camera putting make up on or waxing their chest, or whatever is rather refreshing. He may not have a personality according to forum users, but maybe that might be because they don’t understand the |_337 |-|4X0R skills that Jamie may possess. To me, and to lots of geeks maybe he does have a lot of personality, where Emma or Kate are as useful as a fried motherboard.

I also want to quickly mention something about BBAU copying from othere Big Brothers from around the world. araT mentioned to me in pm that she doesn’t really care if we copy, it’s not like we all watch the overseas versions of the show. Which made me think “hey araT is right. So why do so many people jump up and down about it being a copy? Those who care should only be the ones who watch the overseas versions. So regardless if it is a copy or not, its still relatively new to us.

Day 10

10.38am – Breakfast is served to the housemates, but its porridge yet again after the housemates broke rules in the house. Over breakfast the housemates watch the white room, who are also eating the same food. Everyone in both houses are looking pretty unenthused at their food. Later outside the girls discuss how Bodie is gutted after being made a “non housemate” for breaking nominations rules. No one can acknowledge Bodie or talk to him. Big Brother calls all houseamates to the lounge but as Bodie is a non housemate he must go to the hot tub area. Jamie and Thomas are called to the diary room to collect a table containing paddles. The paddles will be used to select couples for this week’s task. Aleisha picks first – Joel. Emma picks Andrew. Kate picks Thomas. Hayley picks Jamie. Rebecca picks Billy. Susannah picks Zoran. TJ picks Travis.

Andrew and Emma are the first couple called to the diary room for the task. Inside they find baby dolls and are told by Big Brother they are to each care for one of the baby. They must care for the baby as if it were their own real child. Andrew asks if they can name the baby, but BB does not repsond. The baby doll makes a gurgling noise as they pick it up. When they leave the diary room everyone cheers, except for Kate who looks uncomfortable.

BREAK

1.28pm – Thomas and Kate are called to collect their computerised baby. Thomas is glad their baby is a boy. Kate on the other hand looks extremely uncomfortable and can’t sit still in the diary room chair. She eventually starts crying. Thomas hugs her and asks if she is ok.. she shakes her head. Big Brother asks if Kate is ok, she is not. Kate says if this is the task she is leaving the house because she lost a baby 18 months ago and she can’t be in this environment.

Kate: “I’ve obvioulsy got a lot of issues I still need to work through. Coming in here I didn’t think it was bad but I’ve realised it is”

The housemates outside wonder why Kate and Thomas are taking so long in the diary room. Kate tells Big Brother its not the fact that she would be doing this task on her own, its the fact there will be babies all around, talk and joking about babies and she wouldn’t be able to handle that. She won’t be able to get away from it. She doesn’t want to put herself through it, and would rather be out of the house instead.

Kate: “I’m sorry that I’m this weak but I can’t put myself through that”.

Kate says she doesn’t expect the task to change just for her but she won’t be forced into doing something she doesn’t want to do. Big Brother says if Kate wishes she can leave the diary room and take a moment – there is no need to make any decisions now. Kate and Thomas emerge from the diary room without a baby, and Kate has sunnies on her head. The HMs all figure out Kate has been crying and wonder what is going on. A little later BB calls all housemates in the lounge to the diary room. Meanwhile Kate and Thomas are in the chill out room talking about Kate’s residual issues. Big Brother tells the main housemate group that for reasons he will not disclose at this time the current task will cease and they must leave all babies in the diary room. Andrew asks if they are allowed to talk to Kate – Big Brother would prefer he talk to Kate first, then Kate can decide if she wants to discuss it openly.

Kate is telling Thomas its difficult because when you are pregnant and give birth your body goes through changes and she has come into a house where the girls all have great bodies and haven’t had to go through childbirth and that experience. It’s intimidating for her to see their bodies, especially TJ who is very skinny. Big Brother calls Kate to the diary room, and she thanks Thomas for talking to her before she leaves the chillout room. BB asks Kate how she is feeling and informs her the task has been withdrawn from the house – and that she is at liberty to leave the house. BB adds the task was never designed to upset Kate, and it is her choice to discuss this with the other housemates.

Kate says she will discuss it with the other housemates in five minutes when she’s had a chance to wash her face.

BREAK

2.30pm – Kate has gathered the housemates and explains why the task has been cancelled – 18 months ago she was pregnant and lost the baby at the end of her pregnancy. It’s something she’ll never get over and being in a house full of screaming plastic babies was not something she was prepared to go through. She is now prepared to go further in the house now that the task has been withdrawn. Kate starts to get a little tearful while explaining this, as do the other female housemates. She doesn’t really want to go into depth and if the other housemates ask questions later on one-on-one she will go into it. It’s not something you can just mention in passing conversation. “You can’t understand what its like to lose a baby”. TJ and Hayley start tearing. Kate developed a condition with her pregnancy that resulted in the rare death of her baby. Kate explains that she is away from her support group so it adds more difficulty to the situation.

Thomas jumps in and says they can all see how the task could be a source of such stress for some one in her position. Travis says they would all rather fail the task than let her go through that. Everyone is supportive of Kate. She says she is sorry for being such a loudmouth bitch this week but she does have a side that isn’t like that. She apologises to Emma about what has happened in the last couple of days. Rebecca adds they should work on making a safety network for each other.

Rebecca: “When you look at a dead tree in the winter you don’t think its an ugly tree you think its going to be really pretty in the summer. Maybe this is your period to be a little bit dead and your summer’s just coming”

BREAK

3.04pm – Talk has moved to showering naked. They all do a hand count, there are five housemates who have showered naked. TJ suddenly bursts into tears and goes into the bedroom, saying “stupid… stupid… so sick of it”. Thomas follows her but TJ doesn’t need a hug she says.. she’s crying because Bodie has been excluded from the other housemates as a punishment from Big Brother. Bodie meanwhile goes outside and walks around alone. TJ continues her rant about how the punishment is stupid and he’s being “treated by a dog”.

3.57pm – Bodie is still wandering around but is called to the diary room. His punishment is over. Bodie say he is “alright”… all of his answers are short and annoyed. Big Brother annouces to the entire house explaining that the rules are in place for a reason and housemates should police themselves when it comes to the rules. Some of the housemates run up to the diary room door to meet him when he comes out. Bodie suspects this has happened and questions BB on it. Bodie doesn’t want people to be waiting for him when he leaves the diary room. Too bad – the entire house is now waiting. Joel says he doesn’t want to talk to Bodie he just wants to kick him (jokingly). Bodie doesn’t want a “horray Bodie can talk thing”. BB doens’t want to talk about it.

Bodie leaves the diary room and gets a “horray Bodie can talk thing”.

7.02pm – Aleisha and Kate are in the bathroom. Al tells Kate she is really proud of her for what she explained about herself today. Bodie is sitting with TJ in the lounge room, but is still quiet. Bodie said the punishment was “a really good lesson”. Not just for what he did wrong, but a life lesson. He hasn’t been quiet for that amount of time ever and he heard a lot more and got to know the other housemates more than if he was allowed to speak. He sees people in this house differently now. TJ explains how she couldn’t deal with the punishment. Bodie didn’t realise how much of a friend and how much TJ cared about him. Bodie initially mistook her mood swings as two-faced.

TJ says she knows Bodie differently to the other housemates because she’s seen him in his quiet time…. like now.
