It wasn't only sacrifices that went to heaven - the repair droid died after the Doctor pushed him out of the ship.
Or did he commit suicide?
The theory - means he jumped, and I don't believe the Doctor shoves people even if we don't really know.
So in my theory it's a place for martyrs, self sacrifices, suicides.
And maybe - it's something to do with 'nothing' or soldiers.
Don't take much notice of my musings, I have very rarely thought ahead in DW, I just keep up - with several viewings.
I found the ending to be a bit of a let down - "it was nothing all along" but Clara interweaving with the Doctor's child timeline was A+
Buttttt don't you think the Time Lords would have sensed a Tardis arriving in that barn, and isn't the planet time locked?
Definitely think there are still midnight monsters though.
And no "heaven" in this episode too.
And Mr. Pink is a total babe and I want his babies so bad.
I am actually a little annoyed that they skimmed over that creature on the bed and at the base thing. Maybe it was the Midnight Monster
...Tim... BigBrotherCritic... I think that you're both right in this... perhaps it's a new stage in the story lines of Dr Who in future episodes?... when you think that 'The Silence' were the closest of unseen dangers up until that point... perhaps the next steps are the monsters of our own private fears being the scariest of them all?...
...as I said above... the bedspread rising and the fear of something grabbing your leg from under the bed were more horrifying to me than all of the Daleks/Cybermen and The Silence put together!... the closest things that comes to me are the Weeping Angels to really freaking me out... I think that the 'Midnight Monster' is going to come back more and more in future episodes somehow... I mean... with the Weeping Angels... every time that I look at a statue... I think of Dr Who!!!!!... lolol!...
Only the Time-War is time locked, not it's prehistory. I don't understand "it was nothing!" surely it was something.
Did anyone else think that when clara and young danny were under the bed and it went down that it was going to be the Doctor?
And does anyone know what the deal is with "Heaven?"
...lol!... I did... at first... but then again...my mind was reeling with all types of thoughts and ideas of what was happening at 4:30 in the morning in the dark lolol!...
Did anyone spot the cameo by Surly @ the beginning of the episode ?regarDS

...lol!... I sure did Derspatz...and just a little trivia...
...after having watched this episode for a 5th time I noticed that when The Doctor wrote the word 'hunting' that when he originally wrote it at the beginning of this clip he wrote it as...'HUNTiNG'... with a small letter 'i'... but when it went back to the same word at the end of that clip it had the little dot above the 'i' missing to change it to a capital 'I'... thereby making it the word 'HUNTING" in all capitals... lol!... I actually thought that it was supposed to show a little bit of quirkiness of The Doctor but soon realised that Capaldi had obviously just made a mistake in writing it and it was corrected for the shot lolol!... here are the before and after shots to show you what I'm talking about...

...oh god!... I can't believe that I noticed something so trivial as that!!!!... what with saying before about how come those carers didn't see Clara under the bed too means that I'm so over analysing this show way too much for my own good!... lol!... but then again I do get so absorbed in the show because it is Doctor Who!!!!!!... lol!... (I need to get a life methinks!... lol!)... cheers.

Oooo, it could also mean hunt-in-G......hunt in Gallifrey???
All those sribbles are about looking for Gallifrey aren't they?
I don't think they make errors like that in the Doctor @stickyfingers
Vashda Nerada...the shadows that melt, is a similar spook me out theme, kid's nightmares.
I adore that monster/episodes, and the so cool name. This one and that one, are like partners, fantastic.
Love you too @stickyfingers

Well it's official. You need to watch each episode 5 times to bring us these sorts of facts, lol.

Weeping Angels, Vashda Nevada and Red Bedspreads are some of the scariest things in DW.

I’m onto The Daleks, but still catching up.
Meglos, what a great idea to watch from the start, I haven’t seen many of William Hartnell’s episodes so this is so much fun. Anyway, here’s a few thoughts …
Hope I haven’t waffled too much, great start to an amazing 50 years, so I couldn’t help it. We could use spoiler tags if we think it's too much.

AN UNEARTHLY CHILD
Obviously dated, but still surprisingly watchable. If I’d have been a kid in the sixties, I would have been hooked from the start. Weird the Doctor being called Grandfather. Or Doctor Foreman.

So funny Barbara and Ian’s reaction to the TARDIS. No ‘it’s bigger on the inside’, I wonder when that starts?
And the TARDIS must have been a rough ride back then, with Barbara and Ian passing out, and even the Doctor looking queasy.
I wonder why they stayed put on Earth for five months, or why Susan went to school when she knew more than the teachers? Plus I never knew the TARDIS’s chameleon circuit broke in the first episode, but it makes sense, as they were in sixties London, hence the police box.
“We cannot move the great stone”, says Za, as the stone wobbles around with just placing his hand on it. Good old fashioned wobbly sets from the start, yay. The rest of the sets weren’t too bad though. And how was that running scene at the end of the adventure. So fake, and so funny.
Not much music, but what they did have was great, eg the percussion music when Za and Kal were fighting. And how gruesome was that fight?!?! For a kids’ show. I guess DW has always treated kids as little adults. I think that some of the new series' episodes are more ‘kiddy’ than this episode.
But most curiously, what was the Doctor doing with that rock when Za was injured and the others insisted on helping instead of escaping? Was he going to kill him? So odd having a Doctor who doesn’t help people, and may even be violent.
Hope I haven’t waffled too much, great start to an amazing 50 years, so I couldn’t help it. We could use spoiler tags if we think it's too much.

What do you think the "Midnight" Monster looks like? Obviously he would have to be pretty strong and psychological but it is strange that we didn't see him!

nutmeg, really enjoyed reading your thoughts on the first story. Totally agree, I would have been hooked from the start. It's always a shock to see how seemingly cold Hartnell's Doctor could be. i like the ambiguity of whether he really would have brained an unarmed man or not, and Ian's reaction to it. Ian & Barbara are very much the moral centre, and are fantastic. Susan is a bit harder to warm to, but Carole Ann Ford gives it her best shot. I do think she was a bit too old for it (or Susan was written too young, Hartnell basically treats her like a ten year old).
Special mention to Eileen way as Old Mother, I thought she did a terrific job.
I don't have anything negative to say, i'm afraid I love ALL Doctor Who, so there won't be much criticism here.
The Daleks is a whole different level of awesome. They, as a concept, work from the start, and the design is deservedly iconic. The voices, the spitefulness, and most of all the little insights into what makes them tick, all add up to something special. The actors playing the Thals turn in a fairly decent effort, particularly John Lee as Alydon (the Australian, I remember him from Prisoner) and Phillip Bond, the father of Samantha Bond from the new series. I liked Ganatus and Antodus too, and the dramatic arc of their story. The thing that strikes me this time is how gritty and adult it all seems. Clearly kids in the sixties didn't need to be wrapped in cotton wool. The Dalek mutants when extracted from their casings are achieved with just the right hint at what they might look like, without needing to reveal it all.

Take note WHOVIANS
, ABC has the next Doctor episode listed as screening at 2.30am
Next on: Sunday 21 Sep 2:30am
Time Heist
Series 8 | Episode 5
The Doctor turns bank robber when he attempts to break into the most dangerous bank in the Cosmos
No idea why, that would be a cool time tho, easier to just stay awake until 2am
May even be a mistake, will keep checking - I have asked UK fans if it is on really early for some reason.
Could we actually be getting it before UK?

OK a bit more about DW screening times - you need to keep an eye on it, it's going to move about a bit over the next few weeks.
The Caretaker, airs on BBC One on September 27 at 8.30pm.UK, that is an hour later than usual and so our live Sunday am time will move forward i assume to 5.30am.
And another episode, Mummy on the Orient Express, also goes out at 8.30pm UK, apparently it's been deemed a bit too much for littlies - squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, sounds awesome

Am trying to finish off The Daleks by tomorrow, I'll try to get on track quickly. So nice that you know facts about the actors, etc, too. Great to read.
'Cold' is a good way to describe Hartnell's Doctor, I wonder if Capaldi is partly modelling his Doctor on Hartnell's, as he is a bit cold too. And grumpy. At 57, Hartnell may have been his first Doctor, and if not first, he would have caught him on reruns through his childhood. They're both on the older side too.
Funny how you say Barbara is not easy to warm to, her hysteria is a bit much to take. I hope she settles down, but somehow I doubt it.
Old Mother was a standout in The Unearthly Child. That monosyllabic caveman-like acting would be hard to pull off, and some succeeded better than others, but Old Mother was amazing ... perfect for the role.

The blurry top of the head that we saw reminded me of ET.

I like these times better. As you say, you can stay up til 2ish (I often do), and 5.30 (with 6.30 ending) is the sort of time when you can stay up instead of go back to bed. I might take my dogs to the beach that morning.OK a bit more about DW screening times - you need to keep an eye on it, it's going to move about a bit over the next few weeks.

I'd be so annoyed if I got up at 4.30 and DW was over, lol. Thanks for the heads up. A 'not suitable for children' episode sounds intriguing too.

The Edge Of Destruction is a fascinating little story, one I had only seen once before. Absolutely loved it this time. The Doctor takes the moral ambiguity to a whole new level, threatening to turf Ian & Barbara out of 'the Ship" for sabotage. For awhile it seems he'd actually do it, but then there's some fabulous back-pedalling as he offers them the chance to "confess". Barbara goes from strength to strength, their confrontation showing her strength of character. Susan is absolutely bonkers here, her frantic attack on her mattress once again pushing the boundaries. If only Susan had been like this more often... There's some fantastic technobabble on display here, with Barbara declaring something like "time was taken away from us, but now it's been given back to us because it's running out!" It's surreal, creepy and utterly bonkers, I'm enjoying this so much.
Coming next : I'll be listening to Marco Polo on CD, and watching the reconstruction which is a bonus feature on The Edge Of Destruction DVD.
