...'Blink' is my most favourite episode of all time... that story is beyond approach when it comes to perfection to me... others that come close behind for me as my next favourite well written stories are "The empty child"... "Midnight"... "Amy's choice"... "The day of the Doctor" ... "Love and monsters"... "Night terrors"... "Asylum of the Daleks"... "The Idiots Lantern" and "Dalek" to name a few... this episode was up there with them!!!...

...high praise from me I can tell you... what a well written... suspenseful and SCARY episode that was!!!!!... watching it at 4:30 this morning while it was dark was creepiness at it's best!!!!!... lol!... here come the spoilers so I'll put this part in 'spoiler tags' from here onwards... here I go...

...this story ties so many things together from what I can see overall... I'm not going to do a blow by blow description of this episode but rather touch on bits and pieces of the story... here are things that I picked up from it...

(1)... we sort of see The Doctor as a small child...

(2)... we are in the barn from... 'Day of the Doctor'... at some stages...

(3)... The Doctor uses a simple blackboard to work out his problems... (I really like this new aspect in the show... I hope that they keep it!)...

(4)...her and the guy on the date end up together possibly permanently?... (he was a soldier before becoming a teacher apparently)...

(5)... the astronaut in the spacecraft at the end of the universe and time is her great grandson?...

(6)... The doctor was destined to be a soldier and he ran away from that pre-destined path?... (perhaps the reason for him not liking soldiers in that past episode recently?...

(7)... the relevance of the difference between one toy soldier having a gun and the other not has to do with The Doctor not liking firearms?...(and his fleeing his pre-destined path of being a soldier?)... Clara talks about... 'the soldier so brave that he doesn't need a gun'... in reference to The Doctor?... (I'm pretty sure that the little boy is her new 'boyfriend' as a child or am I getting confused here?)...

(8)... the Doctor is afraid of the dark?... especially when he is on his own possibly?... hence the reason for always having a companion or two with him all of the time?...

(9)... that 'creature' under that red bedspread... it was is one of the scariest things that I have ever seen on Doctor Who and we didn't even get to see it!!!!!... lol!... that so freaked me out!... less is better eh?... "he took my bedspread!"... says the young boy!... lol!...

(10)... "is that what I look like from the back?"... Clara asks lolol!... funny as!... (that would be a weird experience to have happen wouldn't it?... lol!...

(11)... that little boy was her new boyfriend!... I just fell in!... Dan didn't react too well when she let slip his name as a child when she called him 'Rupert' eh?... so she actually sent Dan/Rupert on his future journey as a solder!!!... riiiiiight!... I'm with it now!...

(12)... Orson Pink is a Time Traveller!... (just like his great grandmother Clara!)... when she suggested that he stay away from time travel he says... "it runs in the family"... (hello great grandma!)...

(13)... we got to see so much of the interior of the Tardis in today's episode... all little nooks and crannies that we don't usually get to see!...

(14)... the creaking of that spacecraft went right through me... that was so creepy at 4:30 in the morning in the dark lol!...

(15)... The Doctor HAD to know what was outside of the spaceship!... (to face his fears etc?)...

(16)... Clara has obviously learned how to fly The Tardis... (which is good to know)...

(17)... "Orson... you don't want to meet yourself... it's awfully embarrassing!"... a great line Clara lolol!...

(18)... hmmmm that bed is exactly at eye level when you walk into the barn but those carers don't see Clara under the bed?... interesting oversight there methinks!... lol!...

(19)... now comes a 'kapow!' moment!!!... while the child is sobbing in bed ... Clara's under it and hears the carers say...

"why does he sleep out here?"... (the male voice)...

"he doesn't want the others to hear him crying!"...(the female voice)...

"why does he have to cry all the time?"...

"I don't know why?"...

"I hope that he doesn't cry in the Army"...

"shhhhh!"

"don't pretend that you're not awake!... we're not idiots!"...

"come and sleep in the house... you don't have to be alone... if you can hear me... you're very welcome in the house with the other boys... I'll leave the door on the latch... you can come in at any time"...

"he can't just run away crying all of the time if he wants to join the Army!"...

"he doesn't want to join the Army... I keep telling you!"...

"well he's not going to the Academy is he that boy?... he'll never make a Time Lord!"...

(20)... Clara realises now just how big an impact that she has on the destiny of The Doctor's future now!... oh wow!... such an amazing twist!!!!!... Clara Oswald-the impossible girl indeed!!!!!...

(21)... The Doctor says to Clara... "I don't take orders!"...

(22)...am I right to say that the little 'family heirloom' toy soldier that Orson the grandson handed to Clara was the original toy soldier that she had with the young Danny Pink as a child?... and it's the same one that Clara handed to The Doctor as a sobbing child?... (I'm sure that I've got that right... haven't I?)...

...if that is so then it really does mean that Clara... The Doctor and Danny are intertwined completely together for the future shows?... it looks like Danny Pink is going to be around for quite a while like Rory was with Amy eh?...

(24)...Clara was relating a story to Danny over dinner on their awkward 'first date' and says..."she says that she couldn't concentrate on her work because my face is too wide!"... and later in the show The Doctor says... "it's because her face is so wide... she needs 3 mirrors!"... hahahahahahaha!... funny!...

...after having an arguement with Dan and leaving the restaurant she goes back to him and reintroduces herself to him and says... "hi!... I'm Clara Oswald... I do not like my surname..."... my question is... why don't you like it Clara?... is there a back story somewhere there in the future?... interesting!...

(25)... ... that gel 'Tardis telepathic interface' is a great concept too!... it extracts your thoughts and DNA history throughout time for you and your ancestors etc!...

"don't think anything rude!"... says The Doctor...

"why?"... asks Clara...

"because they might all come up on all the screens!"... he replies...

...hahahaha!... classic!...

(26)... The Doctor stole that guys coffee!!!!... lolol!... funny as!...

(27)... Clara's speech at the end with John Hurt walking into the scene made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!... what a great link to the... 'Day of The Doctor' episode for the 50th Anniversary a little while back!!!... a brilliant storyline indeed!!!...

...over all... I loved this episode enough to put it among my top 10 all time favourite episodes of Dr Who!!!... I loved the opening of the show with Capaldi sitting on top of The Tardis... the sweeping panorama within the Tardis and Capaldi's opening dialogue... is he slowly going insane or is he slowly trying to regain his sanity?... it's a fine line with me from what I'm watching!... lol!...

...as everyone probably knows... David Tennant will ALWAYS be my most favourite Doctor but by crikey Peter Capldi as The Doctor comes close I can tell you!!!!... I'm so loving him in this role and am loving Clara more and more with new revelations of her character too!...

...what a great episode indeed!... (I'm watching it for the third time at the moment because there are so many layers to this episode lol!)... "no no not the hugging!... no no!... I'm against the hugging... please!"... lol!...cheers.

Ooooooooo wasn't that just FINE, like a very lovely, very expensive complex wine - I need more, to see it again, taste again.
It was an awesome ep.

Oh yes @stickyfingers, some fantastic visuals, the Doctor sitting on the TARDIS is just gorgeous.

And I too adore both Clara - what a face, and Peter, his hands are magical, his strangeness is fantastic.

The creepy things under the bed - has a special meaning for me too.
My big bros was a thug, and many years older.
He caught yabbies somewhere and parents told him to get rid of them.

He buried them as I watched sitting on the slide, high and safe.
And he haunted us - he buried them alive apparently (I can't recall), and they were going to burrow up under MY BED.

He was such a bully and prick - he had me and my sisters terrified, for years we never went to bed without checking under and in the bed.
I believe my older sisters thought he would deliberately put slimy/creepy creatures there

Oh my goodness! @Mr Stickyfingers - i LOVE this. I read as much as I could quickly (at work on lunch break).

This episode was PHENOMENALLY GOOD. Blink is my all time favourite as well! But this, my goodness... SO. FANTASTIC!

I was literally HIDING BEHIND MY COVERS when that creature was on the bed. SO FECKIN TERRIFYING!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVED seeing the Doctor as a boy. I hope they explore more of that.

And Clara - wow. She has more to do with the Doctor's story than all other companions combined. And FINALLY she is living up to her potential... Miss Impossible Girl is growing on me BIG TIME.

Loving Danny Pink...

Loved. It. :D

I found the ending to be a bit of a let down - "it was nothing all along" but Clara interweaving with the Doctor's child timeline was A+

Buttttt don't you think the Time Lords would have sensed a Tardis arriving in that barn, and isn't the planet time locked?

Definitely think there are still midnight monsters though.

And no "heaven" in this episode too.

And Mr. Pink is a total babe and I want his babies so bad.

Only the Time-War is time locked, not it's prehistory. I don't understand "it was nothing!" surely it was something.

Did anyone else think that when clara and young danny were under the bed and it went down that it was going to be the Doctor?

And does anyone know what the deal is with "Heaven?"

These points are so interesting, well done.

I'm really really interested in the Orson great grandson link to Clara. He said he didn't recognise Clara but then when he gave her the 'family' heirloom, it was like he knew she was part of the family. Can't wait to see the Clara/Danny story unfold. But what a terrible first date, except for the very end, lol. And did Clara realise that Orson is her great grandson, if indeed he is? Which means she knows an awful lot about her future, so is that why she went to Danny's house, because she knew they would end up together anyway? Soooo interesting.

And the young Doctor's army storyline. What army? I need to know more. And if the Doctor didn't live in the barn, where were the rest of 'the boys'. That landscape looked pretty empty.
I don't think we have ever known much about the Doctor's childhood. Can anyone remember anything that might have been revealed in the classic series, or even the books? I always thought he grew up in the giant Gallifreyan city of the classic series, but maybe he just ended up there when he was sent to 'the academy'.

So many mysteries.

I woke up 30mins too late, poo.

Anyway, don't miss this tonight - and probably repeated next saturday as they did the last one.

Clashes a bit with BB, but I expect BB to be all fillers for 20mins, and I don't care anyway.
When BB is presented as a soap/sitcom - I'm happy to watch it that way, delayed/repeats, whatever.

Doctor Who

'Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion'

ABC2, 8:30pm, Sun, 14 Sep 2014, 45 minutes

Past and present cast and crew explain what it takes to travel time and space with the Doctor. Hosted by Peter Davison.

Series, United Kingdom, English, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Cult

I watched it. A nice walk down memory lane. Tegan looks exactly the same, as did Peri, but I wouldn’t have picked Nyssa in a million years. I guess she was so young when she filmed DW and, like the rest of us, now she's not.

Was it just me, or did David Tennant and Peter Davison not have much of a rapport, considering they are father and son in-laws? Loved seeing Mickey and Capt Jack again. And how lovely was the end of the Capaldi interview when they were both acknowledging each other as the Doctor. A great moment.

I am actually a little annoyed that they skimmed over that creature on the bed and at the base thing. Maybe it was the Midnight Monster
I agree, but maybe it was deliberate to keep the 'something's under the bed' concept remain in the realm of the unknown and therefore still scary. For the kid's watching. And us big kids too, seeing as a lot of us here found that damned bedspread terrifying, lol.

There was clearly some point about what drives the doctor, but I believe there was something and this was sowing the seeds for later episode possibilities.

Only the Time-War is time locked, not it's prehistory. I don't understand "it was nothing!" surely it was something.

DW 'nothing'is and can be something, like the silence maybe???

And does anyone know what the deal is with "Heaven?"
Did you see my theory/guess? only 2 have arrived in heaven, both sacrifices/martyrs, nobody else???Who knows, LOL

I need to watch this one another 2-3 times at least.
