...those sluggish slimey worms are disgusting!... I'm sure that black woman was the 'Queen of Great Britain' from that episode where the entire country of the UK was riding on the back of the 'Star Whale' episode in David Tennant's time... I'm sure of it... cheers.

That was - very slick, very fine. Quite an elegant looking ep.
OMG I'm loving this early morning fun in the dark. I just friggin love the entire ritual now.
I do all my stuff/chores/dinner etc way before DW saturday night. Clear my decks and ready for 7.30pm.
Set alarm.
And the DW ritual begins. Watch the repeats, all of it, series, companion stuff, whatever is on offer. Try to go to sleep early - doesn't usually work. Often i only get 3-4 hours sleep in before -
And 4.20am - 10mins for whatever. Snuggle into watch.
Would like to discuss once everyone has watched.
And OMG last weeks ep is so good, hadn't had time to re-watch until Saturday. Must rewatch a couple more times so it sets in my memory, feels huge some of that episode.
Have a great sunday everyone
It is sunny and lovely in Melbourne.
Chadstone has opened a souffle casual dining place, and I have been hunting for a chocolate proper french souffle for quite some time.
Anyone tried the Miam Miam souffles?I wonder if they have heard of souffle girl? I will ask when I visit, they should have her poster up.

...what I love about this years Dr Who... (apart from Peter Capaldi being the new Doctor)... is the bounce of repertoire between The Doctor and Clara... her getting ready to see Danny Pink and asking The Doctor... "how do I look?"...is hilarious!!!!!... it's like Clara having a talk with her dad and asking that question lol!...
...the fact that there is absolutely no 'love interest' between The Doctor and his 'assistant' sends me back to the origins of this show when we had William Hartnell's gruff grandfather Doctor and his blossoming granddaughter Susan... and that's what I'm loving about it!... it's sort of like the 'An Unearthly Child' days... back to the origins of Doctor Who but screaming forwards with new stories and adventures at the same time!... well it is for me anyhow!... lol!... now!... my recap on today's Doctor Who episode... 'Time Heist'...(in spoiler tags from here onwards...
...a great episode but I think that I was spoiled too much last week so this was never going to rise above that methinks... but I did still love it!...
...do they usually show previews of next weeks shows or have I just not realised?... The Doctor becomes a 'Caretaker' at Clara's school!... him dressed in overalls looks so weird... hmmmm... he's the 'Caretaker'?... shades of his future role as 'Caretaker of the Gallifreyan Museum' destined for his future perhaps?... hmmmm indeed!... cheers.

...I said above in my initial 4:30 half awake ramblings that I thought that 'Saibra' my have been 'Liz 10' from the 'The Beast Below' episode of DW and the 'Star Whale'... and that it was David Tennant as The Doctor... well it wasn't David Tennant that was The Doctor in that episode... it was Matt Smith... also... it was... 'Sophie Okonedo' that played... 'Liz 10' in that episode and it was 'Pippa Bennett-Warner' that played 'Saibra' in the episode... here are the two ladies I'm talking about...

...in looks there isn't much difference between the two at all is there?... (well to me at least anyway lol!)... anyhow... onto the story...
...the phone rings on The Tardis... he answers it... "It's just a phone Clara!"... hmmmmm!... I knew that something was going to happen there but not that!... lol!... 'Memory Worms' make their re-appearance again!... (this time without Strax inadvertently using it lol!)... The Doctor and Clara are... 'zapped' to a room with a couple of others... Saibra and Psi... Saibra is a shape-shifter and Psi a half cyborg/human... they all get a replayed message of them all saying... "I agree to this memory wipe"... which is soooo similar as to what they had to do in the 'Beast Below' episode way back before... (probably what is made me think that they were the same actress too?)...
...talk about a... "if you take this mission the tape will self destruct in 10 seconds'..."Mission Impossible' moment or what?... lolol!... I love it!!!... after last weeks intense episode they must've had fun making this one lol!...
...wow!... they do a slow motion walking shot of the assembled team walking into the 'Galaxy Bank'... (like the 'Galaxy Library... "who turned out the lights"... a story arc perhaps?)... using your breath to get access into the bank is a different idea isn't it?... (too bad if you ate a strong Vindaloos Curry beforehand... how would it pick up your normal breath?)...
...I've always loved 'shape-shifters' since my 'Star Trek' days... they're always fun to watch... the creature with two penises on it's head was a tad bit 'Star Wars' wasn't it?... (I'm sure that it would've fit in quite well in the famous 'Cantina' scene in one of the Star Wars movies lol!)... is this episode a tribute to all action adventure movies of the past?... lol!... if they have to out-run a rolling boulder it will make my day lololol!...
...a change in direction for Doctor Who?... what is with all of the 'above-looking-down' shots?... there's been a few of them in this episode...

..."Basically... it's the eyebrows!"... was The Doctors response to Psi when asking what it is that puts The Doctor in charge of the mission lol!... that 'Dimensional Shift Bomb' or whatever it was called was a nifty little idea... it leaves his 'Sonic Screwdriver' for dead... (hmmmmm!... that hasn't made this episode this time methinks!)...
..."how did you get these cases into here?"... (into the Galaxy's most secure Bank)... asks Clara...
..."by breaking into the Bank in advance to breaking into the Bank!"... was The Doctors reply!... hahahaha... flawless!...
...okay... I do have to ask the obvious question... it's supposed to be the Galaxies most secure Bank right?... how come there are air-duct's big enough for people to walk through from one section to another then?... just asking... that's such an obvious flaw in security!!!!...
...that guy with the flat head... he could put a bowl of nibblies on his head to eat out of!... they'd fit nice and snug... something like this as a matter of fact... just saying... (yet again)...

...The Doctor just gave Psi a serve... I'm loving the 'angrier' Doctor... as I say... very 'Hartnell' at times... I can't not think of 2 penises on the head of that 'The Teller' (or whatever he's called)... every time I see it!... lol!... I'm soooo tempted to do a Photoshop of it but I won't!)...
...is it me or was The Doctor being really cold-hearted when Clara told him that Psi just died?... I mean he didn't even bat an eyelid at the news!... I just fell in... The Doctor is the 'The Architect' that planned it from the beginning!... (hence the cases being there prior to their arrivals!)... clever... it took me all that time to pick it up... I usually clue up to these things earlier in the piece...
...my god those glasses on that woman's face are HUGE!!!!!... it's good to see that Psi and Saibra are still alive after all.. (I don't mind these two)... I hope that they make appearances in the future like the Paternoster Gang...
...hahaha!... why hire staff when you can just clone yourself to do it!!!.... at least you wouldn't have to pay them wages lolol!... The Doctor declares that he hates 'The Architect'!... he hates himself?... The Doctor gesturing... "call me!"... I love it!... yeah... I had to do it lol!...
...does 'The Teller' with the penises have the same type of spacesuit that The Doctor wears?... is there a story arc of some kind there perhaps?... I liked this shot as they dropped those creatures off on their home planet...

...the phone call was from an old Madame Karabraxos... what a twist!... so as usual... everything makes sense in the end... them all eating take-way food in The Tardis is a nice touch... I cannot recall ever seeing any people at all actually eating food in The Tardis if memory serves me... lol!...
...my final thoughts on this episode?... it is a total romp-fest after last weeks high tensile show... I never saw the rolling boulder chasing them though lol!... when Saibra lightly hits him on the arm and he rubs it after... funny as!... Peter Capaldi ran this show this week more so than in the last couple of weeks... those episodes seemed like Clara was 'in charge' to me... I think that The doctor has now fully recovered from his last regeneration and is full-on from now on as himself at last...

We usually get a clip for next week @stickyfingers.
John smith is back
The Doctor, seems to be competing for Clara's attention/favour???
His parting, my date was better and few other quips.
This series is fantastic, totally loving every single episode.
This one had a Matrix/old doctor feel, all those corridors and the cool look of it all.
And quip, slick lines galore - the Doctor is getting so very beautifully drier and wittier, Capaldi's delivery is just divine.
Capaldi and Clara are bringing out the better Moffat, he's not torturing our main characters, and it just seems cleaner and slicker.
Last week was perfect, this week was pure fun.

...as I showed in the 'spoilers' part of my previous post... they showed a lot of overhead shots... I'm kind of wondering whether it was for just that one 'Mission Impossible-robs-a-Bank' episode or is this going to be an ongoing theme?... any thoughts on this?... are we going to be in a new era of 'swish-bang' type of fast action editing or was it just made a bit 'snappier' to go with that particular episode?... I'm hoping that it was done just for that episode...
...after all.. last weeks episode was all dark and slow and spooky so perhaps they are going to try new things this season to suit each episode?... hopefully it's part of the new makeup of the show since Capaldi came along to keep up with these days and times and to keep it always fresh?... I'm liking Capaldi more and more each episode... when he did this...
...his quirky little mannerisms are cracking me up more and more each time I see him!... the show seems to be tailoring itself around Capaldi's take as The Doctor at a fast rate from what I can see... so perhaps these new screenshots are part of that change?... we'll see over the next few shows if that is what's happening for sure I guess?... bring on the new shows!!!!... lol!... cheers.

...amen to that BigBrotherCritic... he really is good in this role... I like his take on The Doctor because there is mainly no love interest between him and Clara... (that would just not be right)... and also because he has the gruff manner of William Hartnell (as I have mentioned in a previous post above)... it's going to be a great run with Capaldi at the helm methinks!...
...and by the way... welcome to the forums my friend... I just noticed your join date... as you will find... there is a great little Doctor Who following in this particular thread... no big egos battling it out with each other... that makes for quite a change in forums dedicated to Doctor Who believe me!... lolol!... cheers.

Thanks man,
AMEN! MMMHHMMM DAMN RIGHT!!
You are right when it comes to the lack of love interest. That would screw everything. I think the Doctor is turning into a bit of a "Sherlock" (With all the blackboard writing and musing, etc.), Which is perfect for our favourite Time Lord. Capaldi is turning the show into the themes seen more in the classic series, Which I personally love, If you can excuse the sets wobbling.
Capaldi is:
The gruff of the First Doctor
The yelling of the Second Doctor
The posh of the Third Doctor
The humour of the Fourth Doctor
The up frontness of the Fifth Doctor
The attitude of the Sixth Doctor
The darkness of the Seventh Doctor
The wildness of the Eighth Doctor
The sass of the Ninth Doctor
The energy of the Tenth Doctor
The people skills of the Eleventh Doctor

When the guy's brain was turned to soup, did anyone else think of the mug shot that did the rounds a while ago ...

Poor guy.
I loved the devices in Time Heist. The dimensional shift bomb and the cloaking hologram device thingee, I forget what it's called. I'd dimensionally shift all my mess away and wear a new outfit whenever I wanted one.
One thing I didn't get ... who was the man who Sabra turned into to enter the bank? Did anyone else catch it?
And Mr SF, did Sabra remind you of BBUK's Toya with her blue lipstick?

CLASSIC WHO MARATHON
THE DALEKS
The Sets
The sets are surprisingly good. The painted backdrops are a little obvious, and that ‘stone’ thing involved in the elevator incident was pretty shaky, plus the miniature city shots look like a school project (a high marking school project though, lol) and some of the technology looks pretty amateurish. But inside the city, the caves and the forest are really believable. I expected much worse.
The TARDIS
The TARDIS’s glorified vending machine was interesting, very Willy Wonka. The lock was interesting too, 21 holes and if you get the wrong one the lock melts down. No stumbling home drunk and fumbling with the key, lol. Funny how they don’t often call it the TARDIS, almost always ‘the ship’.
The Characters
I see what you mean about Barbara being written too young, she’s quite the drama queen for a mature person. So is Susan, but you can forgive her as she is only 15.
On the meanness of the Doctor, how was him wanting to abandon Barbara in the city, knowing she would die of radiation poisoning; and this is obviously before the Doctor established his higher tolerance to radiation.
Ian is so heroic and noble, I guess certain people surrounding the Doctor have always been heroic; it’s just such a contrast to the Doctor himself, not ever wanting to stay and help. Such a different Doctor to what we have become used to.
The Daleks
So weird to see the Daleks paralyse first instead of kill, and only temporary paralysis at that; and being electrified from the floor, like an upside down tram. The sick Dalek moaning was hilarious, though it would have been fine when aired, not knowing the Daleks as we do now, they were so much less efficient or powerful back then.
My Highlights
What I loved about this episode was that it was the start of the great DW moral dilemmas, in this case, to fight or not to fight; to wage war with all its horrors, or to submit. That theme will never go out of date, and it is one that DW does so well.
AND the Doctor said he was once a pioneer amongst his own people? I wonder what that means?
THE EDGE OF DESTRUCTION
I completely agree with you about this episode. It was surprisingly awesome, the character building was great, without any real action getting in the way. I love an occasional episode that is all about figuring things out and dealing with emotional extremes.
The Doctor was so much fun, Hartnell was really hitting his straps by now, despite a couple of fluffed lines. BBC obviously wasn't big on re-takes back then, lol. How was it when he drugged the others ... funny and disturbing at the same time. And the accusations and back-pedalling was extraordinary. He's such an unpredictable Doctor, for me anyway, not having seen a lot of these episodes. I just thought he was grumpy, not almost murderous.
And it was great to really get to know Barbara too, a great episode for her, and she made the most of it. A short and sweet adventure, but so much fun.
(I'm still running behind, am aiming to catch up this weekend.)

CLASSIC WHO MARATHON
The Edge Of Destruction is a fascinating little story, one I had only seen once before. Absolutely loved it this time. The Doctor takes the moral ambiguity to a whole new level, threatening to turf Ian & Barbara out of 'the Ship" for sabotage. For awhile it seems he'd actually do it, but then there's some fabulous back-pedalling as he offers them the chance to "confess". Barbara goes from strength to strength, their confrontation showing her strength of character. Susan is absolutely bonkers here, her frantic attack on her mattress once again pushing the boundaries. If only Susan had been like this more often... There's some fantastic technobabble on display here, with Barbara declaring something like "time was taken away from us, but now it's been given back to us because it's running out!" It's surreal, creepy and utterly bonkers, I'm enjoying this so much.
Coming next : I'll be listening to Marco Polo on CD, and watching the reconstruction which is a bonus feature on The Edge Of Destruction DVD.
