Terms like "illegals" and "queue jumpers" are used by people who have certain (usually racist or islamophobic) views, in order to stir up hatred and opposition to asylum seekers. Asylum seekers have the right to have their status determined, by what is an imperfect system - as seen in this show - but for now it's the best we have. Both the current and previous governments have pandered to this demonisation by shunting asylum seekers offshore and trying to hide the issue for political reasons. It's pathetic really.

Sometimes other viewpoints are not racist, or against any group. Sometimes it's just a voice stating their opinion on the subject, without taking potshots at the opposing view.

Comments about The Project and the Gold Logie nominations for Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar are nothing more than extremely sour grapes from rival networks who are bitter that their shows and talent failed to score nominations,' a spokesperson wrote.

He added: 'The Project resonates with the Australian public and this sniping from rival networks is juvenile nonsense and goes against the positive spirit of the TV Week Logie Awards.'
