The Block - Sky High

I can't believe that I haven't watched previous seasons of The Block. I just love it!

I've dipped into previous series and found them extremely tedious, but i've watched & enjoyed every episode of this one. I love the twins, they are so inventive & funny, and I enjoy the "bromance" betwen Jarrod & George, who seem to suffer a lot at the hands of their annoying partners.

I've been having a Block marathon catching up on the episodes we missed in Thailand. I know! Embarrassing! I can't believe that I haven't watched previous seasons of The Block. I just love it!

I am loving Alisa, Lysandra, Matt and Kim - they work so hard and have such great ideas. I'm backing one of these couples for the win. All four of them are intelligent, articulate, hard-working, humorous and innovative.

And I want to adopt Keith as my new best friend. Or have a wild night of hanging from the scaffold by my toes tearing his Foreman shirt off with my teeth.

I am addicted, it's my favourite home reno or maybe even fave reality show this year. LOVE the twins, no doubt about it, they have an incredible sense of style. Matt and Kim are my next faves, even Matt's twitch isn't annoying me us much as it did at the start of the series.

The twins surely have this in the bag, they will have the lowest reserve with the most high end apartment.

Yep! Certainly my favourite reality show for the last few years. The lower floors are terrific, but the women on the top three floors aren't given any favours with the editing, are they?

I'm hoping for a stellar BB this year; at least that will ease the pain of no more Block.

Wow didn't see that coming! Forgot all about any extra space down the bottom besides the foyer.... even as Scotty was saying it I was thinking, what? at another apartment block somewhere?!

Guess that answers that early question about the high number of bathrooms!

Roof top looks amazing... love the high tables and stools so it feels like you're at a swish bar somewhere. Love the water feature too.

I thought maybe that the rest of the ground floor might be storage? Is there an underground car park?

Pretty sure they said each apartment would get two lock up car spaces, i assumed the ground floor would get converted for this. I can't watch any more eps til I get home from holidays. Unless they're on youtube.

Yeah 2 car spaces each, so there must be an underground carpark, or perhaps you can drive around the back and they're going to put in a row of garages?

The look on their faces was priceless... they thought it was all finished and they were going home, umm no, you have to renovate a whole new apartment haha!

Getting 20k off the reserve would certainly help. I hope the twins continue to ace it! Or Matt and Kim. The views from the top three stories will surely outweigh the less than stellar renovations and I'd really like the bottom floors to do well.

I knew they still had 2 weeks to fill in until the auction but I was thinking they would do a charity house or something, like they have done in a previous season. I suspect they bought forward the air date by a few weeks to compete with House Rules but then had some time to fill in at the end.

I think if the twins win even 20k off their reserve they are a pretty high chance of winning, as i don't think their reserve will be as high.

Similar feelings, never been able to truly get into this show before, did a bit more with Allstars, and much more with this.
But I have to avoid those mid week challenge things, all the 9 people, ick.

I've got what is probably a really silly question. I noticed that on the show tonight Bec mentioned in a voice-over that there is cooling on the terrace, but all they showed was a ceiling fan. There don't appear to be any air conditioning units in any of the apartments, and there's certainly no machinery on the roof. Are any of the apartments air conditioned? I would have thought that this would be a must for a luxury apartment.

I think the 8 star energy rating precludes them from having aircon.

As I'm currently out of the country can someone please give me an update as to what has happened since last friday? Presumably they got finished a rooftop and lobby but now what? Something on the ground floor?

Thanks for the info. Logical!

Yep, they're all working on the ground floor for the next two weeks. The couple with the winning room for each of those weeks will earn $20,000 off the reserve for their apartment. There was also a challenge during this week and the prize was a framed $5,000 to be hung in the winning apartment as an enticement to buy at the auction. George and Bec won.

Have a great time away!

EDIT: Hubby reckons that electric under floor heating is way more energy inefficient than reverse cycle air conditioning *shrugs*

This week the twins are doing a hallway, laundry, bathroom and foyer; Matt and Kim are doing a bedroom; Trixie and Jonno a bedroom and ensuite; George and Bec a bedroom and ensuite; Madi and Jarrod a bedroom. I think. I'll double check and edit.

EDIT: I can't find confirmation of those rooms this week and my memory has more holes than J.Lo's fishnets. It's about/almost/in the vicinity of nearly right though.

ok so there's a whole nother apartment. gotcha.

I speculated right back at the start they might squeeze in five studios, so each team would do one each.

Yes there is a whole new apartment, 4 bedrooms 5 bathrooms and a couple of courtyards. I think from memory the kitchen bit of it is going to be an extension. They are being encouraged to let loose and use their own design style which is going to result in an apartment that is completely disjointed and you'd think would need redoing afterwards. I think one of them said there is about 5 different floor coverings, tiles, wood, concrete
and something else.

lol sounds crazy. When I get home I'll have a block marathon. It shouldn't take too long because once you ff all the cryIng and shoppIng and challenges you can pretty much watch each ep in 20 minutes.

Fortunately there is not too much crying in the Block but yeah I ff through the sobbing also, however I do like watching the shopping. :D

shopping for the apartments is good, shopping for clothes, facials and massages. .. nope :)
