I was thinking that same thing after the pic of the Queen in a crown was posted here a little while back. A photo of a crown alone isn't so striking - but on her head it suddenly showed the size and just how huge the gems were, and it was clear how impressive crowns/crown jewels would actually be - how much impact they might have during ceremonial occasions. I had a browse while I had my eye in and was stunned to see things like a necklace composed entirely of 26 huge diamonds - and I wondered if it would have looked, as Medusa said, 'gaudy', if it was worn by anyone insufficiently royal. (Maybe it does now as apparently it was sold after Princess Margaret's death). It's interesting that remodelling has been so common even when pieces haven't been "lost" or sold as though it's adding to the history of the pieces rather than detracting from it....
When they showed some of pieces on their own I was like meh, but when they showed the same piece actually being worn.. wowers
...

That would be about...........a vulgar redhead fame whore who sells access to her ex hubbie for mega bucks, and probably advised her toothy daughter to wear the ugliest attention gathering hat ever to a royal wedding![]()
