Last movie you saw

I saw Bridesmaids yesterday - seriously funny funny movie. After I left - before the credits ran - I remembered someone said something about after the credits, what was it?

Rebel Wilson cracks me up - as did everyone else in the movie. :)

I saw it with my son lol. We were both laughing our heads off.

You have to go back and see the credits!! its way better undescribed :)

Red Riding Hood

This was a surprisingly good film. I really did enjoy this when I got it on DVD. Missed it at the cinema. Anyway yes was quite enjoyable, so much so that I have watched it twice already in the first week of owning the film. Something I very rarely would do..

The story is a fun take on the classic tale and many a twist and turn ensue. At first I thought the werewolf was actually Peter the woodcutter's son who the heroine Valerie is in love with, despite being pledged to the blond haired Henry who is rich and wealthy. The two males are total opposites. Henry is blond and has the all around good guy look while Peter wears a lot of black and is a bit aloof, always wanting a bit of adventure..

Basically Valerie and her family live in this village in medieval times that is plagued by a werewolf. Every month they leave out a sacrifice of an animal for it as they have an uneasy truce with the creature. But the wolf ups the ante by killing Valerie's older sister. So the village is in panic and want revenge. They call in the help of a famous werewolf hunter played by Gary Oldman and he kind of steals the show with his character.. Very well done on his part.

I won't reveal who the wolf is but it's not that obvious until the last 20 minutes of the film then it makes sense, who it might be.

Overall a fun film. But here lie the faults. It's a village with snow falling yet no one breathes misty breath when outside. Come on can't we have just a little bit of authenticity here. Every movie I see with snow has this fakery. How hard would it have been to even CGI some mist for talking scenes outside? Oh and you can sometimes see the stage floor where the set and walls are. Noticed this on the 2nd viewing. But it didn't hamper enjoyment of the film. Did love the costumes and that they were excellent.

7/10

I like the idea of this film at first (Company of Wolves is one of my fav films) but it seemed a bit too much like Twilight with a Werewolf. Sounds like it might actually be worth a watch.

Saw this at MIFF, it was quite good. I liked it a lot. Not as quirky as you'd think, just kind of strange and amusing. I don't even really know how to explain it. It's a peculiar coming of age drama/comedy. Really just about inadequate people, not really sure how the world works, how they fit into it ect. I think central to it, is the isolation people are in, like a submarine underwater while living their lives.

I started trying to explain the film, but it's hard. The teenagers dealing with being a teenage. Each kind of alone in their drama's but coming together. However as this is happening for Oliver Tate, he learns of his parents marital issues, which then gets in the way and he tries to fix that relationship at the expense of his own. It's really hard to explain because it gives no idea what the film is like.

It's quite funny and moving at times.

Here's some clips to give an idea. Just because it's hard to explain and give an idea.

A couple of Oliver and Jordana clips.

It's directed by Richard Ayoade.. as in Moss from The IT Crowd. Ben stiller produced it.

I thought much the same thing. "eeeeww director of Twilight" and some of the same ideas and same character type appearances but it was really good. Oh and "granny's stew" I'll let you ponder that one till you see the film .... That came out of left field for me and threw me.

Captain America

It's an entertaining film with lots of like. However it remains some what distant emotionally and never ever truly thrilling. The first half is better than the second, and the Villian has all the hallmarks to be a great one, but it's just never developed. It's a case of in trying to set up a franchise, they have crammed probably two movies in to one and as a result nothing is developed to any depth.
I did enjoy it though, just lacked that really engaging factor. Although it is always entertaining and surprisingly funny.

A story worth the telling.

Red Dog

@ "The Windsor"

A Real Story made into a Real Movie, shown at a Real Theatre.

Must see.

You'll most certainly laugh, you'll most certainly cry, and you might even be reminded what Oz is really all about and what it has lost in relatively recent years.

It doesn't exactly follow the researched book, but hey, "near enough is good enough", eh ? :)

^ A pic I took of the Very Real statue of "The Pilbara Wanderer" back in 2006 when LSCP, numba1son, and I were on our mega-4x4 trek.

I Am Number Four

Super hero, science fiction film. Basically there's some remaining aliens on earth from their home planet. They're all hiding across the planet being hunted down. It follows one teen and his guardian. They move from town to town to get a low profile. Of course Number Four just wants to be a regular teen. They end up moving to a new town. He meets a girl, and the bad guys find them.

It sounds kind of shit, but it was an entertaining film. One not to take too seriously, but I was quite entertained by it. I had fun with it, so what more can you ask?

Battle Los Angeles

This film was entertaining. It's basically just some marines in LA during an alien invasion. Shot like Black Hawk Down. Now it's no where near as good, or as intense as that.It was still entertaining enough. There was enough in it, that you didn't feel cheated. Which I thought would be the case.

The entire things stupid. From the mission of the marines, the the defensive tactics against the aliens. Especially to the macho Marines stuff. Apparently US marines don't need to eat or sleep to be in battle.
Also the whole trying to explain the alien invasion didn't need to be done. It just came off stupid.

Why oh way do films constantly make claim that aliens would want to invade us for our natural resources? Except for biological stuff, there's really nothing on the earth that isn't all over the solar system and the universe. So wouldn't they be strip mine the moons of saturn, harvesting the asteroid belt ect.

In this it's for water. Which of course there's plenty out there in space. Water is made up of the number 2 and number 3 most common elements in the universe. Here the case is made that earth has liquid water on it's surface. Apparently the aliens can't melt the ice of Europe, Ceres ect. They would have been better to have just left it unexplained then from little news clips here and there.

If you can get all past that, it's an entertaining enough action film. The shakey camera gets annoying though.

I'm getting I Am Number 4

I had that on order via Amazon cheaper then what it is locally.

Might get Battle LA too since that is cheaper via there too.

I am dying to see Cowboys and Aliens

Yeah I got the blu-ray from amazon.co.uk because it was cheaper. Same with Battle LA. I also got the Mechanic, which I quite enjoyed.

If somethings a relatively new release and I want it, I tend to go there because it's cheaper.

I saw Bridesmaids last week. I think I am the only person in the world who isn't raving about it. It had it's funny spots but I didn't think it lived up to the hype. I think perhaps if I hadn't heard everyone raving about it I wouldn't have been as disappointed..I expected more and didn't get it. Funny - but average funny, not as good as it has been made out to be. I get a lot more laughs out of an episode of Big Bang Theory or QI. So yeah..6/10

I saw bridesmaids on the weekend an thought it was just ok.

Red Dog though set in WA was apparantly filmed almost entirely in SA.

Doesn't matter where indoors, night time, (etc etc) is filmed and pre-production is done. Even SA is "near enough" for that sort of thing :)

Anyhoo, some more info about this excellent fillum.

Red Dog stars Josh Lucas, best known for playing opposite Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama, and is about the kelpie who roamed the Pilbara in the 1970s.

The actor had a good look around WA during his time here, hiring a car with his French girlfriend for a road trip from Perth to Karratha, where shooting took place.

Some scenes were also filmed at Rio Tinto’s operations site in Dampier.

Aussie Greys Anatomy star Rachael Taylor also features in the film, which was produced by West Australian Nelson Woss (Ned Kelly.)

Filming locations for
Red Dog (2011)

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Dampier, Western Australia, Australia

Karratha, Western Australia, Australia

Pilbara, Western Australia, Australia

Having been to and stayed in and swam at the Karratha / Dampier / Port Hedland / Pilbara area a number of times (even arrived by Tall Ship once) there was plenty to recognise.

I am also pleased to report that "Red Dog" is a hit in Israel / Jerusalem. Way Qool eh UAN ? :D

“It was terrific to see Red Dog roam to Israel and an honour to screen at the prestigious Jerusalem Cinematheque with such a warm reception. Having spoken to some of the audience after the film, I was moved to discover that they connected so well with an Australian film and its themes of love and loss"

Not that it matters but actually outdoors daytime was also filmed in SA, something to do with SA looking more authentically like the WA of old. Only reason I know is a good friend of mine owns one of the main casting agencies in SA and he cast a lot of the actors/extras.

Regardless, looks like a nice flick so I'll try and catch it at the movies soonish.

Slightly off topic, the new SA Film Corp opens today in the historic old building which was formely the Asylum here in SA. It's about 40 steps from my ward.

Is that going to be in the old building? It's actually a beautiful building, glad to see it's going to get some attention.
