It really was a lot to absorb so early in the morning. I was sitting there grinning, then open-mouthed in shock, then a few tears even snuck up on me... and there were WTF bits I wanted to rewind just be sure sure that really happened.

Btw @Mr Stickyfingers, I read in another thread about your wife, best wishes for her speedy recovery.

...oh thanks so much my friend... she's home and sitting in the loungeroom snoozing in her bum fitting cosy chair at the moment lol!... it's great to have her home again... we just got home about 15 minutes ago so it was all a bit tiring for her... thanks again for the best wishes Meglos... cheers.

Well that was pretty satisfying:)
Moffat has done well, this series is a vast improvement in his story telling.

And thoroughly looking forward to seeing it again tonight.
@stickyfingers if you are bursting to chat, do you ever visit UK forums?

I like digital spy doctor section, they are not so extreme as the doctor dedicated sites, so I can keep up.
Plenty of viewers like us, big fans but not apostles.
The ones that can recite whole episodes from 1969 freak me out = good on them, but I cannot follow all that canon not canon way too in depth stuff and debates.

They have good theories, news bits and stuff.

...I visit a few of them at times kxk... Gallifrey Base/Digital Spy Forums/Dalek Building websites... (at one stage I was going to try and build a Dalek about 4-5 years ago until I had a stroke and canned the idea lol!)... I've actually put some of my Doctor Who artwork into the 'Fan Artwork' section in the 'Gallifrey Base' website on some occasions...

...but I usually 99% of the time don't write on there... I just lurk and read... if you disagree with someone about a certain aspect of Doctor Who a pack mentality kicks in and you have a dozen people jumping on you just for expressing your opinion... hence the reason I love this Doctor Who thread within this forums... we're all avid fans but not maniacs about it...people freely agree or disagree on here about different things but I've yet to see a heated discussion on this thread yet!...

...that's why I love you guys and gals... there are no massive egos on here... we come on here for the love of the show that we all have for it... as Jeff Fenech used to say... "I luv you'se all!"... lol!... cheers.

OMG I am really excited again:)

@stickyfingers I hope nothing serious is going on with your lovely lady, you 2 sound like you are soulmates.
I love your romantic side.

This is the sweet spot on this forum I agree - there are some others, dinner/cats/laughs/music/frocks - though that is sometimes misconstrued by wanderers.

Osgood didn't need to die :-(

Absolutely. That was the only thing that really shocked me and made me quite angry. I guess it's a reaction that they were going for, but I wish there had been another way.

Well, what I noticed 2nd time.
Clara/Danny story is sad, but it was a brief love affair - and she loves the Doctor more.
It is saddest when she tells cyberdanny, the one she will never lie to (tho she has)and who means more to her than anyone else is the Doctor.
Poor Danny, what a story he had, even if I was never a fan much.

Anyone here read Peter F. Hamilton's "The Night's Dawn" trilogy ?

"The Reality Dysfunction", etc ?

Without spoiling things too much for those who are yet to read it (or see the latest Who), has one reminded you of the other a bit ?

CLASSIC WHO MARATHON

The Reign Of Terror is probably one of the least talked about of the black and white stories. Generally not regarded as a classic, it also rarely attracts negative comment either, instead sitting somewhere in the fan consensus as a solid but unexciting historical. One of the greatest things about this marathon is discovering those moments when you can unearth a previously undiscovered gem and take the opportunity to fully appreciate something that the majority have overlooked. I had not seen this one before. As with the previous story, and the following one for that matter, I had bought the video but never quite got around to watching it. I'd read the book, during the time when I was learning about the French Revolution at school, which enabled me to bluff my way through several history essays. So that's a CHECK for the educational aspect. How then does it fare entertainment-wise? The answer is, very well thank you.
The regular cast always seem in their element when involved in history, squaring up to actual historical figures. This one gives William Hartnell another opportunity to shine, as a case of mistaken identity gives him the perfect opportunity to not just dress up fabulously

but also to adopt a sterner, more authorative role. He seems to immerse himself in the role to a degree he rarely gets credit for. Things kick off when the Doctor, Ian, Susan and Barbara are confronted by revolutionaries in an abandoned farmhouse, which leads to a brilliant scene where the revolutionaries D'Argenson and Rouvray are brutally killed, Ian is captured, and Susan (who is suffering from plague symptoms) and Barbara are sent off to be guillotined as traitors. It's fantastically grim, especially when it culminates in the farmhouse being set alight with the Doctor inside. The Doctor is rescued by a boy, Jean-Pierre, followed by scenes such as the journey along the roadside, including his encounters with shopkeepers and road workers, imbued with Hartnell's sense of humour. We almost have a repeat of the caveman incident as the Doctor seems willing to clobber someone with a shovel.
All of the characters we meet bring something to the table - Jules and Jean, Danielle, Barbara's deceitful love interest Leon Colbert, Lemaitre, and historical bigwigs Napoleon and Robespierre.
Episode 4 and 5 no longer exist in their original form, and are represented on the DVD by full animations from the company who made Danger Mouse. For me it works beautifully, adding nuances to the story that may have been missing listening to the audio alone. Susan's likeness is particularly good.
The icing on the cake is the Doctor's final "our destiny is in the stars" speech. This was the concluding story of Doctor Who's very first season, and looking back, the series has got off to a very strong start, demonstrating many of the qualities which would ensure it would run and run, and that we would still be watching it now.

I couldn't get the kids in bed early enough last night, so only caught half of it. At the end when Danny started talking to Clara from "the other side" and then the kid came through that he killed when he was a solider, I sobbed! I hated the café convo between the Dr & Clara, then it ended, and I nearly threw the remote at the telly! Then we see Santa saying that's not how it ends, and what do you want for xmas (or something like that, I was too sad to take it in) Does this mean we get a proper resolution in the Christmas special?

That's a very interesting point @el'coopo
What if "Santa" can somehow bring Danny back, and fix Clara?

(and bring back Osgood and cute Dr Chang while you're at it)

It really was hard to watch Danny in the cyberman suit. I've got to watch the last 4 episodes again to try & get my head around it all. I'm so confused. Isn't Clara meant to be the impossible girl? The one that threw herself into the Dr's timeline and kept dying all over again? what happened to that? Is this time her "real" life? And then is was Missy/the master that gave Clara the Dr's phone number right at the start? I am soooo confused! And yup, Dr Chang has gots to come back!!! :D

...kxk my sweet wife is happy to be home I can tell you that for sure lol!... apparently I didn't mess the house up too much while she was in Hospital so I'm already in the good books lol!... it's so good to have her back...and yes... we are definitely soul mates for sure... she's everything to me... and I am definitely a die-hard romantic I can assure you of that!... I've romanced her for 36 years now and am still counting!... lol!... thanks for your concern about my wonderful lady kxk... cheers.

Does this mean we get a proper resolution in the Christmas special?

From all reports, Jenna Coleman is in the cast list for the Christmas Special but don't know how much or a role she has. I think they still have to wrap things up about seeing Future Mr Pink (I presume Clara the post it note with "3 months" is a good clue).

I enjoyed the episode, but it was such a downer. Osgood, Danny, The Brigadier, The kid returning and Clara leaving the doctor was a lot to be sad about!

Maybe I shouldn't be cutting up onions whilst watching Dr Who!

Yes, this is her "real" time. You will recall at the end of the previous season she threw herself into The Doctor's timestream and that caused copies of her to be woven into various points in the Doctor's life. But the Clara we see is the original.

And then is was Missy/the master that gave Clara the Dr's phone number right at the start? I am soooo confused!

Missy has a Tardis and has been systematically collecting the consciousness of everyone who dies near the Doctor across hundreds of years. She also used her Tardis to go to the point in time when Clara entered the computer repair shop, and gave Clara the Doctor's Tardis phone number.

OH!! I get it now! Thank you for filling in the gaps :)

I am DEVASTATED that Danny Pink is dead.

I am SICK of the companions and their loved ones ending in tragedy..I WANT "happy ever after" *sob, bawl, cry, cry, sook"

Well Amy and Bore-y technically got a happy ever after, just not when they had anticipated!
