Stars rally around Kerri-Anne Kennerley after shock cancer news

MESSAGES of love and support have flown in for Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who has revealed she is fighting breast cancer.
The 58-year-old told New Idea that she discovered a small tumour "no bigger than a pea" on May 31 but will delay the surgery for five days so she can take part in the grand finale of Dancing With The Stars.
Fellow DWTS performer and former AFL star Brendon Fevola told Channel Seven's Sunrise this morning that he was saddened by the news, but was confident she would make a full recovery. ''To hear that news about Kerri-Anne, it's upsetting,'' he said. ''She's a fighter and she'll get on top of this.''
Megan Gale was among the first of many Australian personalities to tweet their well wishes for the television legend. "Sending Kerri-Anne Kennerley lots of love, support & strength. If anyone can tackle this head on, KAK can!" she wrote. Chrissie Swan and Rove McManus re-tweeted Peter Hellier’s message of support: "Kerri-Anne Kennerley has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Good luck with the road ahead KAK. You have the whole of Oz's love & support!!"
Celebrity Apprentice star Deborah Thomas said Kennerley's story sent a strong message to other women to engage in regular mammograms and check-ups. "So sorry to hear about Kerri-Anne's breast cancer diagnosis," she tweeted. "Reminder to all about regular screening plus the need for immediate treatment.''
Kennerley says she went public with her story to urge all women to undergo regular mammograms. When Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 at age 36 it triggered a surge in breast imaging of low risk women. Use of mammography and breast ultrasound procedures soared by more than 30 per cent among women aged 25-44 in the six months following Minogue's diagnosis, according to a study from the University of Melbourne.After surgery and chemotherapy she used her profile to raise awareness for breast cancer.

"If it hadn't been for that, I might never have noticed the lump," she told New Idea. "It's a funny thing - the doctor told me if I hadn't lost 8kg on DWTS, and if I hadn't been fiddle-faddling with that beaded bra, i might not have realised there was anything wrong for months.""I guess you could say DWTS may have saved my life".
While Kennerley, who lives in Sydney with her husband of 28 years, says it is too early to know exactly what type of treatment she'll need, doctors have told her radiotherapy is "a given" and at least part of her breast must be removed.
But the television star has vowed that the show must go on, and has decided to delay her surgery for five days so she can compete in the grand finale of DWTS.In the raw and moving interview the doyenne of television said she didn't have any of the risk factors. "That’s why I thought it could never happen to me. I’ve always looked after myself, but here I am," she said.
The news comes just days after announcing her yet-to-be-named prime time show on the Seven Network
