So now I've gone full circle on Stargate, and back to SGU where I started. This show premiered in 2009 and it bears the hallmarks of that era of TV (shaky cam etc). I know it copped flack from viewers of the previous versions, but I don't blame producers for dumping the 90s-era episodic TNG/Voyager style and reinventing SG in the modern style. It leaves behind the cheesy humour and pop culture references/jokes, and is darker, more serious and more gripping to watch. The only cringe factor is the soft-rock musical montages which were de rigueur at the time. That's the one thing that has dated this show.
