They found him hard to know because they didn't let him into their circle the first few weeks. Remember Drew in the kitchen telling Tim that Matt told him he wasn't masculine? I could tell how much that bothered Drew and he never forgave Matt that comment - he really started up the 'meatheads' commentary around that time. Too bad Caleb fell in with Matt and Ed so early on - seems like he has more in common with Drew and Tim.

Yep, I agree. Caleb does seem to have more in common with Drew & Tim. I am really fond of Caleb - he's a very DTE guy. I think Matt is a bit uppity.

My memory is that Matt and Ed blamed Drew's relationship with Tully, which they said meant that Drew was isolating himself with her instead of mixing widely?

yes but that wasn't for quite a few weeks in, they wanted to spend more time with Drew, and did seem to get long ok when they did spend time with them.
I think it was too awkward from the start with the love triangle with Ed,Jade and Drew, plus Drew couldnt be one of the boys the first week because he was doing the fake marriage task, so was on the backfoot with that boys clique.

Tim didnt appear to get along with caleb and even nominated him the week he left. although Tim didnt like any of the meatheads at the start, until he married Ed and Matt?

Ed's post about missing Matt was so much more heartfelt than this. If this isn't a showmance, (which i strongly doubt), he is really hopelessly inadequate at expressing his feelings.

yes there were many reasons why they were never going to fully get along, plus Matt being bossy and wanting to run the house his way (HM's nominated him for that) plus being moral police wouldn't have helped matters.
Matt was Tullys house husband the first week or two until he disliked her being so negative etc, and that was before the Drully hookup. Tully thought she was still his friend up until the week he confronted her after Drew put him up for eviction...he was nominating her etc.

Yeah, it was in the last week when Drew was saying how he use to work out alone in a corner while the other 3 guys worked out together, and how Caleb was the only one to ever try to include him and help him out.

The time they got along best was when they found common ground, which was Drew and Tully and how annoying and insensitive they were being by whispering throughout the night.

Part of me thinks he's genuine and just has difficulty expressing himself, but another part thinks he's playing it up and going along with it for image reasons. He got a pretty bad spray from Tim and Drew for not being genuine with her, and there was the footage of him nominating her and saying she wasn't his type, etc. He'd know that if he didn't support her or make it look like he had feelings for her after that he'd basically be admitting he is the type of guy that they made him out to be.

My memory is that Ed/Matt warned Tully not to trust Drew. Not for that romance crap ... had to do with Drew running back and forth between "groups" and always reporting back to TIM AND even what Tully told Drew ....> back to Tim.

That's how I see it too. Not sure if the shift is because he's genuinely started to like her more, or because he's trying to force it to prove a point though.

The difference with Jade and Ed is Jade is very concerned with managing her own feelings and Ed gives priority to what's best for the 'group'

Wow! I didn't realise Drew's dibber dobber tendencies appeared that early in the game! This is one of the reasons I love this season, you go back and you realise you missed things. Like "easter eggs". Again, I really admire these HM's for what they created.
