Yes I understand all that. And yes @interesting insight...I have to agree. But I still want to know what the joke is
Got to love how apparently it's bad for Estelle to not like racist joke. No matter what the context. Which we haven't seen. It's perfectly fine to not like someone repeating an offensive joke.
Michael was only annoyed because he thought her saying the joke was offensive to her might make him look bad. Then had a spazzy fit.

She's unpopular with her housemates. Probably because of behaviour like that.
Regardless, she's entitled to feel offended by it if she perceived it as racism even if Michael's intent wasn't to be racist.
Which is a point they all missed. You can't prefix something to make it not be offensive.
When people laugh at racist and offensive jokes. It generally comes down to if they are laughing at how offensive it is, or because they agree with the offensive part. However I think some people aren't always aware of what they are laughing at. People can unintentionally be laughing at something racist. Not just the shock for how racist it is.
Offensive jokes by default are never fine, they however can be said in company that won't take offence for a variety of reasons.

Actually, I get Estelle on this one.
Michael can posture all he likes about whatever profound discourse he was imparting to his followers, but he doesn't have to re-tell the offensive joke to make his point.
And then go on to re-tell it again, now that is starting to look like his story is an excuse to tell the joke. I would be wondering about why he keeps telling it too.
He calls it the worst joke in the world, I think we can assume it's repulsive.....nobody wants to listen to repulsive repeated.

I am inclined to think that part of telling the story is to tell the joke and get a reaction from it. That fits way more in line with the Michael we see. Than him sitting down to explain how racism is bad the the class.
If you watch his hissy fit, it's all about him being upset that Estelle thought he might be telling the joke to tell it. How that could make him look like a bigot. So I kind of think he's done a whole lot of justification around that point. If it was so clear, why get upset at that possibility?
Of course we haven't seen how the joke was told, how he told the story was told, how people reacted ect. So some people on the forums demonisation of Estelle is ludicrous.
I also think the suggestion this makes about Estelle is a bit too extreme seeing she is a law student.

Sorry but I don't like anybody being the PC police. Michael was telling the story about when he heard the joke, probably hoping it might actually spark some interesting conversation.
I don't like censorship. It is going to get to a point where people can't tell a joke about ANYTHING without getting in trouble. Jokes all throughout history have taken a shot at religion, race, gender, sexuality, body size, etc etc etc ... most jokes are offensive to SOMEBODY. Does that mean we should never tell another joke?
There are very few jokes that offend me. I may not find them funny, and some jokes may cross my personal line ... but that's freaking life. Even dead baby jokes. Being a mum, I DON"T like them ... but I would never call for them to be banned ... because when then do you draw the line about any joke?
I have told some racist jokes in my lifetime (certainly no malice intended) and I have laughed at some that I've heard. One of the people who tells the most aboriginal jokes (gasp, how racist) is the aboriginal guy who lives next door to us.

Law student doesn't mean much these days unfortunately, so many places have dodgey law courses - that do not qualify you to become a lawyer.
There are a proliferation of law courses because they are cheap and easy to set up and run, all you need is books no special equipment or rooms.
Still she's doing something and must have half a brain. To me part of the Michael/Estelle clash is Michael talks like a cynical old man, kind of tired of the world mostly; Estelle talks like a pumped up idealist who is still forging her ideals with gaps in her armory.

You only have to mention a nationality these days to have the word "Racist" thrown at you by someone. It's interesting though, quite often these brilliant social protectors have a great deal of difficulty telling the difference between nationality and race. In fact I'm quite sure a lot of them don't even know there is a difference.

AKAIk human variation is referred by scientists as a cline or continuum, there are no rigid fixed little 'negro', 'mongoloid' etc.. boxes that humans can be accurately pigeonholed to.

I gather Michael was only talking about a racist joke he unwittingly made as a child. I don't understand what he did wrong, and Estelle sounds like an idiot for not getting where he was coming from. Maybe this is why she is unpopular.
She seemed nice enough to me at first, however I'm starting to wonder about her. There is far too much "poor little me" crap. She insists that she is never mean to others, yet I saw her mock Zoe the other day (something about Zoe looking like a peasant washer woman as Zoe was washing her clothes - not very classy of someone as pretty as Estelle to say that about someone who isn't as physically attractive).
If Estelle spends the entire day censoring people's conversations, being ever so PC, then it's no wonder people get annoyed with her. The rap posturing would be pretty annoying too.

Based on the daily show I'd say Michael's point was that the context in which the joke was repeated was all important and Estelle's point was that the location where the joke was told might trump that. She thought the BB house wasn't a great location for it. That makes sense to me. Anything that is said in the house can be stripped of context. The producers didn't do that with the joke but it could have happened and for all the housemates know, the footage could have been live streamed and repeated by viewers.
He clearly likes to position himself as an authority and can't hack anyone challenging him. Hence why he has to call anyone who actually offers something different, or tries to engage his opinion as being "think" or "dumb" ect.
You're grasping at straws if thats what you are saying shows Estelle is being mean. You're adding in the context to Zoe's attractiveness.
For the millionth time. Yes Michael was telling the joke as part of a story. Estelle is still completely entitled to still not like it. There is nothing necessarily wrong with either position. Michael just got upset because he thought Estelle not liking it made him look bad. It's not at all about Estelle not understanding. She just doesn't like racist jokes and doesn't think the story being told in the big brother house actually warrants such an offensive joke being told. She is entitled to voice her opinion. She was censoring nothing.
On her poor little me. She is constantly shut down and made fun of by the other house mates. It's in basically every daily show. So how the fuck can you claim she's doing an act? When every time you watching the show you see people bitching and being mean about her.
Michael is back peddling at 100 miles an hour and most likely realises that the BB house was not the correct place to tell his joke.
