Last movie you saw

Enemy Mine

I haven't seen this movie in ages. And I enjoyed it.....It's an old story done many times but it holds a good message about racism, friendship, and tolerance...

Stars Dennis Quaid and Lou Gossett Jr. as the alien Drac both enemy soldiers in a war crash landing on a planet and they both have to survive and band together, first as enemies but over time a friendship of sorts is developed.... Much more happens and I shouldn't spoil it but it's a great movie IMHO and I think a lot of you might enjoy it.

6/10

Repo Men

A gorey scientice fiction action movie, where Jude Law and Forrest Witicker play organ repossession men. Basically when you need a new organ you can buy or finance one from The Union. How ever if you miss payments they will come and reposes your organs with no regard for your safety or health. It was quite a decent movie. It's nothing great but it was entertaining and the whole concept is quite interesting. It's the sort of film you should really have no expectations for, and you should know if it's a film you'd like.

That looks good :)

I own it. In it's own cheesy way (and the era it was made) it was/is pretty good, but the novel by Barry B Longyear was far better ... and far less "Hollywood Ending"ish.

There is a book?????????????

I didn't know that.

I just thought it was based on a short story and also a rewrite of "Hell in the Pacific" about a US pilot stranded with a Japanese pilot or such on an island after a crash.

I just wish they had made the bloody halo movie. It might have been a flop but still would have been cool .

... a rewrite of "Hell in the Pacific"

What a great ending that had ! ;) :)

Out next year, isn't it ?

and

I must say, after a month of playing "Modern Warfare" (got up to level 70 and about to go "Prestige" mode which resets all weapons and challenges ... and you have to get up to level 70 x 10 to truly complete the online aspect of it all ), I went back to playing Halo last night (mainly to see if anything new had come out) and discovered it is soooooo slooooowww.

MW2 soon trains ya to think, aim, and fire fast !

Will go see "inception" with numba1son tomorrow ...

In the trailer, some of it looks like scenes out of MW2, too.

Interesting that they list the film as still being in production... I too thought the whole thing had been scrapped.

YOU don't reply to messages I asked a couple of halo questions in another thread ... Do you know of any nice groups to join for online play, and you wouldn't know of where to get a decent game trainer for halo 2 .... Killing Regret is a PITA....

You play PC or Xbox?

I kind of regretted doing Prestige. I was bored of the game and so did it. While fun at first having challenges again, it got annoying after a while having to unlock things again. I was already way over the game though.

Since I got full use of my hand back been playing mainly Battlefield:Bad Company 2, not as fast pace but a nice change of pace. Although over that now as it's too repetitive. It has big maps, and the trade off for big maps is, there's less maps.

Last week i've gone back and played some Modern Warfare 1 and some World at War, so much faster and smoother game play than either MW2 or BF:BC2. On PC at least you get much lower pings and they require more accuracy and speed. Requires more skill. BC2 is more stratergy but most servers don't have Mics turned on, and unlike BF2 players are less interesting in strategy or playing. Like you're defending you m-comm sations and no one goes to defuse it. Or players who don't attack the other teams M-comm stations. Or the amount of people that don't realise you can blow the m-comms up with explosives. Gets frustrating.

I hate that even games built for slower console play like BC2 and MW2, the slower pings get translated into the PC versions.

MW2 it's to do with the match making over the server system of mw and waw, for BC2... no idea. My ping is always about 4,5 times that of what I get in other games. Which is usually in the 30 ping area.

Do you know of any nice groups to join for online play

As I said before, nope. When playing via PC I just used to pick the best ping rate for games that were't running modifications. It's all xbox 360 for me now though, and so just the games that Bungie itself provides.

and you wouldn't know of where to get a decent game trainer for halo 2

Again, nope. I've not used a trainer and so have not looked into them.

[ding dong - I've got email ] gotta go ... my code for xbox live points bought on the cheap from ebay has just arrived - time to go download me some map upgrades for MW2. :)

seeing this is also just a general movie thread... how awesome will this be![ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSIetIg7O3M"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSIetIg7O3M[/ame]

"The Road"

Oooer !

Despite my own probable choice if confronted with such a world, the movie (and presumably the book) contains an absolutely brilliant line about "luxuries".

Two Roger Corman movies

Galaxy Of Terror

Forbidden World

Interesting to know Galaxy Of Terror is a film by a very young James Cameron before he got famous..

But are genuine B horror fun...... The first one with an interesting scene involving a giant caterpillar and a woman......... And Erin Moran formerly of Hapy Days getting squashed.

Tron.
Since the sequel is out soon, I thought I'd go look at the original again.

It has a quite unique look and feel. This world of simple polygons and flat colours. And the strange alien Wendy Carlos electronic score. It's quite dreamlike.

And I've been also digging up the traliers for "Tron Legacy" on YouTube. The images are much slicker and glossy and "realistic", and far less of a dream/fairy tale. And while I understand the need to do that, it's made for a much more conventional looking film.

Animal Kingdom Wow! I finally have faith back in The Australian Film Industry, while it's not pefect it kept me on the edge of my seat and some of the characters in it really got under my skin.

Ben Mendholson was the standout in this, people were saying Jackie Weaver was good but I thought she was a bit wooden.

Jackie Weaver plays the matriarch for a family of boys who are all into crime, drugs and shady shit, her grandson is brought into the house when his mother dies and gets stuck right in the middle of the chaos.

Ending was a little open ended.

Yeah, the approach is to update the look.

There's no way they could do something as revolutionary as what the first film did, and it'd be too lame to just match that look. So they went, how do you progress the look.

The idea is that it's the same world, it has just evolved since then, isolated from the world wide web.

The first film though, so much of the look was just byproducts to what they were trying to do.

It was shot in black and white, then individual frames were enlarged to be coloured, rotoscoped ect. Then all these layers were composited back together. Even things like the flickering that happens was a by product of lack of consistency in the film that was used for the frame enlargements.

Personally I like the look of the the new film. There's a lot more practical sets and stuff compared to the original, but there appears to be a lot of cool attention to detail in the shiny, curvy sexy world of the new tron.

What's your main movie website up_all_night?

No main one. I just check a variety of them.

I just follow a general sense, used to read more in detail everything but there's no time.

I'll check stuff like

http://www.aintitcool.com/
They seem to apparently from reading the comments just post stuff later from a lot of other sites these days. Too much geek/nerd wankery as well. Like they cream themselves over a picture of an old ray harryhausen behind the scenes photo. Bitch about CGI and the lack of practical in films ect. Then at the moment they have pictures up of the new transformers film, bitching about that. Even when the pictures are of massive sets, streets in Chicago dressed to look like there's a war going on. Impressive stuff, all practical, all location but then just bitch about that. When it's exactly the sort of stuff they bitch about film directors not doing any more. Lots of that stupid irrational geek stuff and they're pretty bias. I only really just check out of habit and there's the odd thing.

This is good to get an over view of what are the latest trailers and news.

http://moviehole.net/ Bit hit and miss and lacking these days, but i regulary check it.

http://chud.com/articles/ Stuff like chud are good, but i like to just get a simple over view.

Thing is though for stuff, you need to also just know where to go for specific things. Like Stargate news, http://www.gateworld.net/
which is often missing on a lot of general tv, movie sites.

And it has 13 in it that's got to be good :)
