Last movie you saw

TV, but yeah whatever

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Finally finished this 13 episode show. I eagerly await the second season, although it'll be some time away. The Actor who plays Spartacus got non-hodgkins lymphoma, so while renewed for a second season in December they won't start filming until later this year. They're doing a short prequel series instead which, to be honest probably isn't necessary.

It's one of those shows that starts out laughably bad. It picked up a lot. The writing and plots, scripts, action all got better and better as it went on. It's low budget, a lot of blue screen, bad cg, it's very stylised. As in, blood doesn't just splatter, it sprays and flies around in slow motion. Actually is cool when you get used to it.

One of those shows that unfortunately though falls into the pitfalls of premium cable shows in the US system. Always a desire for a number of episodes that don't necessarily fit the story plotting. So it'll be awesome, then have a not so good episode or two, then have an awesome one or two where all the on going plot happens. Also falls into the pitfall of, they can do what they want ratings wise and in an attempt to try and get people to watch, they through in too much sex and violence. Although the violence is good, the sex and often soft core esque and constant nudity is really over done. There's no coincidence that in the plot heavy episodes it fades away to perfectly fine levels. Not that I have a problem with it, but really it's annoying when it's just there and over done to fill a quota by the network and to distinguish it so much from net work tv. It's kind of like, yeah you see some hot actresses naked, in this you see some guys naked as well if that's your thing. The show is very homo erotic at times. It's kind of just.. yeah if I want to watch porn, i'd be watching porn, i'm watching this for story. Anyways.

Yeah the show kept getting better, the last 4 episodes I watched over the last couple of nights were all excellent, and what the show does best. All sorts of political and social entanglements and intrigues. Plans and plots, betrayal, murder, lust, revenge ect ect.

It'll be no surprise the show ends with the slave revolt, can't wait to see the story of them travelling rome. I hope they up the budget, it seems they'd need to, this was fairly confined in locations and green screens. If you know the story of Spartacus, yeah there's a lot more than in a ludius and an arena after the revolution.

Yeah the first episode I admit when i first started watching in Jan, i turned it off 25 mins in . Cheesy bad action, sex and nudity, corny dialogue. I only started watching again after reading and hearing from multiple places the show gets quite good and it does. I would say though, it's a show you'd have to think you'd like to watch. A lot of people probably couldn't get past the barrier of cheapness and over the top nature of it all. I would say if it seems like something you would like, even if you are put off initially keep watching. I believe it starts on GO! this month actually.

So yeah when it's good it's excellent, when it's bad, it's laughably so.

Are ok, never watched house. Hugh just reminds me of his old comedy days. Was interesting at Stephen Fry the other night him recalling how he and Hugh became friends and writing partners after being introduced by Emma Thomson.

I digress... Olivia Wilde, yes I find her extremely attractive and appealing, so am also glad she's in the film.. in tight outfits.....

City Island - what a fun quirky and crazy movie. And I must say really well scripted and nicely told. It's about a family who are very dysfunctional and really bad at communicating, packed with secrets and lots of yelling. There is one scene at the dinner table where everyone is heckling, nagging and annoying each other and lots of yelling and squealing, it so reminded me of our family sometimes, so bloody annoying, lol.

I don't think anyone will be disappointed after they watch it. It won't get you raving on about it and singing it's praises but it's a little hidden gem in that you will leave the cinema with a smile on your face. :)

Inception What a mind fuck! It was as easy to follow as it was confusing, which means it was very well made.

the ending with the spinning top, it started to wobble so I think it was about to fall over

Loved it. one of my favourite movies i have seen in the last years. but i dunno, im leading towards the other way :D i think i need to see it again.

on the other hand i saw Adam Sandler's latest attempt at creating a decent film"grown-up's". Failed attempt mind you. i knew there was a reason why i avoid these horrid funny movies....when you compare it to Inception or Avatar, you wonder why adam sandler bothered making it....

Are you going to see Will Ferrel's new one.. A buddy cop comedy?

The Losers

Entertaining comic book, A-Team type movie. It's just a big fun, doesn't intend to be, or pretends it should be taken seriously action film. Does what it does, while not brilliant it does the job well and yeah I hope there's a sequel. A-team like as it's a special ops type team framed who then have to go and seek revenge on the evil mastermind who set them up. Kind of like an A-Team type film versus a cartoon james bond villian. Not as flashy and no where near the budget of the A-Team or scope. Still it was good, good cast as well.

Oddly enough there's another movie called The Expendables that seems very similar in nature. Gee who'd have thunk Hollywood would have run out of ideas... They just seem quite similar in nature.......

And there is this Scott Pilgrim thing what is all that about? Looks like a cheap 70's movie

I think Scott Pilgrim is playing off the Cartoon and Retro 8 Bit Chic thing.
This teenage guy's life as a Nintendo game. The has to fight 7 bosses... 7 ex boyfriends... to get the girl of his dreams. And they mix in all sorts of old video game imagery, sounds and references.

It's what the hip kids are into nowadays.

:)

If that's the case the Pixels movie will be a mega hit. And I will definitely go see it, if it ever gets made.

Yeah it's not quite like The Expendables. I guess a group of mercenaries. I'm not sure what to think, i want that to be good, Stallone, Statham, all those other guys how can it not? I've read some mixed stuff, but I'm sure it'll be entertaining. Want it to be awesome but I know it won't be.

Scott Pilgrim, I keep reading all this buzz and positive geek love stuff on line. I don't get it myself. I kind of think it looks lame and dumb. I will check it out though.

Just thought, i wonder when kick ass is out on blu-ray so I did a search at ezydvd

I guess not for a while.... wait a minute....

I am going next week to see Inception but what bugs me is that constant ads for it all the time, mostly in the evenings, what seems every 5 minutes.........

Whenever they over hype something I come away a tiny bit disappointed..

I was over hyped for Inception. I really enjoyed it, thought it was great and plan to see it again. How ever a lot of the specific hype about it, like it blows your mind, or that it's so dense and complex you have to pay attention to every detail I think detracted. I focussed too much on the film than sitting back and relaxing and enjoying. So yeah with inception, just don't like any pre-concieved notion get to you. It's a good film, that's all.

Nothing worse and this wasn't the case with inception, but when you're sitting in a movie that is meant to be awesome and you think, "this isn't all that good," or "i'm bored" or whatever.

yeah the inception ads playing at the moment( with all the good review quotes) gives nothing away except that its a good movie. which it is.

and UAN- i stay away from trailers if i can, i wait for someone to tell me a movie is good, my friends are a better judge. and i prefer to see all the funny stuff in context....

but i never saw a TS3/Kickass/watchmen/inception trailer, and ive fallen in love with them all. i dunno if that would have been true if i had seen a trailer with spoilerific information in it.
