but whatever happened to "sticks and stones will break your bones, but names will never hurt you?" as the old saying goes.

It was and still is a load of shit, that's what happened to it.

Words can and do cut more than a weapon.

Have you seen the Charlotte Dawson stories?

Never heard of them ... is "Charlotte Dawson" the main character or the author of the stories and which demographic would most get into the series/books ? What is the setting ? Presumably, judging by the name, it ain't a sci-fi or fantasy series ... sounds more like something Mills & Boone would put out.

Weird, she had an enormous bitch fight on twitter, then took herself off to hospital.

Oh, I should have read ahead. I guess she is the author then. What happened ? Did somebody not like what she did to one of the characters in her books or is it just yet another "Indie Author Melt-down" (seems to be a regular thing) in response to a review that she didn't like ?

Here is a link to a certain infamous Indie Author Melt-Down: http://booksandpals.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/greek-seaman-jacqueline-howett.html ... plenty more on the internut about that one, including footage of the author herself reading from her own book to try and prove her point but really only making things worse for herself.

Eh ?

Oh, so not an author but rather some instantly forgettable nobody from a show attempting to take food prep to a degree or two above the absolute boring that it typically is, I presume.

No wonder I'd never heard of her.

I just don't get why people would watch a show about cooking, let alone see it as entertainment ... or remember any names of folk associated with it.

If there has ever been a thread about it on these forums, I can't recall ever visiting it.

Wisconsin Cheese Mart plans on selling this 40-year-old cheese

MILWAUKEE — A recently discovered block of eastern Wisconsin cheddar cheese that dates back to the Nixon presidency will be sold for $10 per ounce.

Edward Zahn, 73, was in Z's Cheese Shoppe's walk-in cooler last month, preparing to shut down his Oconto store. He pushed aside stacks of cheese to reveal several wooden boxes that had been overlooked for years.

Inside were blocks of unintentionally aged cheddar – 28, 34 and 40 years old – that, some experts say, might comprise the oldest collection of cheese ever assembled and sold to the public.

"It just got overlooked," Zahn told the Wisconsin State Journal of the 40-year-old cheese. "It looks just like the others except it's just a lot sharper. It's got character."

Ken McNulty, who owns the Wisconsin Cheese Mart in Milwaukee, bought about 20 pounds of the 40-year-old cheddar and 120 pounds of 34-year cheddar. He declined to reveal the price he paid.

Cheese is often sold by the pound, but McNulty plans to sell the oldest cheese by the ounce so more people can get a taste.

It doesn't give you a whole lot of confidence in the cleanliness of the rest of his store if he doesn't clean out his coldroom for 40 years, does it!

LOL

I am no cheese expert but surely there is a difference between properly aged cheese and cheese just left for 40 years?
