Some odd choices of live guests - never heard of that kid or Rufus Hound.

...I didn't know them either... why bother having them on at all?... Rufus Hound made a total dick of himself by getting his facts wrong didn't he?... if you check up on him he's an English 'comedian'... looks like he's only been around for about 2-3 years in the celebrity circuit... God knows who the little kid was... I thought that they would've had at least a couple of the latest Doctors or companions on the show but I shouldn't be ungrateful... at least the ABC to their credit broadcasted it Live eh?... cheers.

He certainly hasn't got the eye-candy factor typical of Matt Smith's incarnation, but I think he'll have the wit & charm of the Doctor's of old.

I know he's been in World War Z... but I swear I've seen him in something else too...

On the topic of World War Z - did anyone notice that he played a doctor for the World Health Organisation. I'll repeat, World Health Organisation. Yep, he was a Doctor for W.H.O. before being Doctor Who

...one bit of good news other than the identity of the new Doctor is that on the BBC Dr Who website they have announced that the Daleks are back in the anniversary special... not as those big fat poncy effeminate looking new Daleks but as the better former copper coloured Daleks... (perhaps Moffatt has finally listened to the fans in regards to the newest Daleks and has finally gone back to what the fans want in regards to the Daleks... the older model which looked a lot more menacing)... here is a screenshot (copywrited to the BBC obviously)... of the promo blurb...



...there are no photos showing those newer versions in the promo photos... (I so hate the newer Daleks I really do)... I can't wait for the anniversary episode... it should be a bloody good episode from what I can imagine... cheers.

Maybe they're using the 'old Daleks' because its about going back in time with John Hurt's doctor, so it wouldn't make sense to use the 'new models'? haha

The teletubby Daleks were the biggest mistake of the entire relaunched series, hopefully they are gone for good.

I think I will grow to like this choice. He was a fantastic actor in Torchwood, and hilarious as Syd's dad in Skins. He clearly has the range to pull off this exceedingly difficult role.

...I imagine that Moffatt has seen that acting range within his portfolio and has worked with him before in 'The Fires of Pompeii' episode so he knows what he is capable of... I'm pretty sure that I'm going to like this version of The Doctor...

...have to agree 100% with this... it was getting a bit tiresome with them all falling for him all the time... who knows... perhaps a future male companion might fall for him?... now that would be quite a twist wouldn't it?... lol!...

... my thoughts exactly... until the announcement I hadn't really ever noticed him in the other shows that he has been in except the Dr Who 'The Fires of Pompeii' episode and only briefly remember him in 'Torchwood' so it will be a refreshing take on the Doctor Who character to look forward to for me... my gut instinct tells me that this guy is going to be a good choice for the role... cheers.

TORCHWOOD. Of course. I remember reading he was in Torchwood, but I couldn't think of who he played. Looked into it this morning - The Permanent Secretary to the Home Office.

I reckon his take as the 12th Doctor will barely resemble the other character's he's played for Who & Torchwood.

Oh and Steven Moffatt all but said the colour Daleks were a mistake. But they cost a bomb to build

I would love to see the Doctor get even darker as he reaches his final regeneration(s). We saw bits of that with #10, #11 but it could, and should go further.

Oh and he could pass for a DT Doctor cousin. Capaldi looks like his Doctor could be related to DT's Doctor

As for the romance with the companions yeah get rid of that. No need for it.

Wow - come on now your DW fans, not shallow plastic people.

I have a love affair still going for my old Doctor - Peter Davison, I follow anything that lovely man does, and the connection between he and DT is delicious. I can just imagine the whole family together with the babies in DW onesies

And a love affair with the best NuWho, DT........fully love DT and same will watch anything he's in.

And now Matt, I love him differently, like a mother or something, it's weird he just brings the aww Matt in me.

OK so they were all kind of nice looking, but I can fall in love with anyone with a good brain/wit/style/talent.
Some of my other loves are Jerry Seinfeld, Ricky Gervaise, my one legged 5' philosophy professor.

This guy is manic and strange in Thick of It, he's going to have some John Hurt connection, and it's going to be epic and awesome, and mythical - I hope.
So ladies & gents why not fall in love?!?!
