i am pretty sure US elections, like those of Australia, are mostly free and fair as certified by international observers.

According to this in 2023 US was rated 7.8 and Australia 8.7 on the most recent Democracy index. the highest was Norway with 9.8 and the NZ with 9.6 The lowest was Afghanistan with 0.3. I have put in a couple of other countries that have popped up in this conversation for comparison as well. So USA are not not as democratic as us, (or Germany currently) but Gayspie is correct.
