Do we have a politics thread to discuss things political?

"All of this could not come at a worse time for Biden. His campaign, I don’t need to tell you, is in complete disarray. Day after day there has been headline after headline about the president being too frail and feeble for office. Biden already looked like a weak old man compared to Trump (who is only three years younger than him). Now that contrast has been extraordinarily heightened. Trump is the guy who jumps straight up after being fired at by an assassin; Biden is the guy who stumbles up the stairs. If you’re an undecided voter swayed by which candidate looks more presidential, your mind just got made up."

Trump has been stumbling on stairs and ramps for years as well. What America needs is an option that isn't either of these two, because you are really voting for which you think may be less the dottery old fool at the moment, and fingers crossed you were right. I think trump had it before all this went down but I think this will have really pushed the odds more in his favour.

People knew Biden was past it when he ran last time, and he implied he'd hand over the reins to Karmala during this term, but his ego got the better of him. Had he done that, people would have had time to judge Karmala as president and vote her back in, or alternatively the Democrats could have selected a new candidate. Biden's really screwed it for the Dems. Short of him carking it between now and November they are stuffed. I dread to think what's coming with Trump 2.0.

It'll rile up all the MAGAs to go out and vote. They'll be more determined than ever.
What do you mean more determined? They were already determined to have their King reclaim his thrown 💁🏼‍♂️. It’s the swing voters/states that are going to decided this election. I don’t see him being able to leverage this in any way. The only thing Trump and the cult know how to do is double down and the more extreme they get the more unappealing they’ll be to those they need to be winning over.

I don’t remember anything about Biden implying he’d step aside and I followed the 2020 pretty close.

What’s really going to fuck over the Dems is the anti-Trumpers sitting on their asses come election day and handing Trump a second term.

Posting because what they talk about in this video is a universal condemnation of politic violence, they also touch on rhetoric from Republicans that has also stoked political violence.

MAGA can’t have its cake and eat it too they can’t condemn the Democrats for rhetoric that led to the assignation attempt and continue to fan the flames on the other side. If they do soften the rhetoric it may win them some of the swing voters but will also isolate the more hardline MAGA cultists.

Like I said above I have little doubts they can successfully spin this that’s going to united a majority. On the other hand Democrats calling out the Republican hypocrisy could give them a lot of momentum as November approaches.

Trumps trying to pin this on Democrats should be another “stand back, and stand by” moment. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Hopefully his VP pick will mobilise Democrat voters to get out there ant vote for Biden regardless of his shortcomings. Vance is a major arsehole.

Thanks for that. In defence of that I’d say that at that time no one expected Trump would run again. Not saying sticking around for a rematch was a smart idea but it definitely would have impacted his decision.

As for Trump’s VP pick I was just coming here to comment that Democrats have their work cut out for them in terms of attack ads.

This video a great competition of JD Vance’s statements about Trump.

I respectfully disagree with that statement. Trump's ego was always going to lead him to run again I think even if he was told he legally could not he would still somehow be getting people to vote for him.

oh as soon as I saw that announcement I they're going to be all over that.

And I echo what Isee said about Trump. He was never going to give up his grift.

Sorry poorly worded. There were a lot of people who incorrectly assumed he either wouldn’t run or would never secure the nomination.

Personally I knew as soon as he started challenging the election results that he’d want a rematch. That said had DeSantis not bungled his primary campaign it was really his race to lose.

So I said somewhere in the last couple of days (FB maybe?) that Trump's reaction to being "shot" was like he'd been bitten by a mosquito, and it turns out I was exactly right

During the call, Trump recounted the Pennsylvania shooting, describing the bullet that hit his ear as "sounding like the world's largest mosquito".

I am actually surprised he hasn't compared himself to a war veteran now that he has been shot at

This statement is exactly the point I was making last week… Trump has no grace and he wants unity but on unity behind HIM. He’ll attack the Democrats/media for their anti-Trump rhetoric but has absolutely no qualms doubling down on his. He’s a hypocrite and I think with this statement alone he’s opened the door for Democrats to start hammering him on it. Especially now while the campaign is in a bit of a post-Biden standstill.
