I learnt 'If I had a Hammer' and 'Michael Row the Boat Ashore' in primary school...

With Hammer though us boys would make up our own 'items' and what we'd do with them... it was all very 'boy' mentality, the girls weren't impressed and neither was our teacher Mrs Boys

to the tune “where have all the flowers gone”

where do all the commies go, after their passing
fabians and greenazis go, when they cease to moan
where do all the left-ards go
is it somewhere way below
where they still never learn,
where they do ever burn ...

Maximilian Schell - actor, aged 83

I remember him most for being the bad guy scientist in disney's "The Black Hole" in1979, but he won awards for his role in "Judgement at Nuremburg"

Likewise :(
What a waste of brilliant talent.

I'm trying to think of what to say, but nothing is coming. He was an amazing AMAZING actor. Talented and enthralling to watch. He isn't even considered old, he had so many years in him still. Seriously, a waste!

I didn't even realise he had a problem in the addiction area. With some you can kind of see these things coming but I had no idea regarding him. (maybe it's just me not keeping up)
Regardless he was very talented and it's just really sad to read this.

Insomniac, would never have guessed it! Maybe I'm that stupid, but I always thought addicts would be in the skinnier side. Please no one think I'm stereotyping, I know almost little to nothing on addicts. The topic scares me really. I'm reading that he had an addiction and that he kicked it for 23 years, but somehow he was addicted to prescription tablets which led him to the heroine again... It's crazy! Like you said, it doesn't take away from his brilliant performances and yep, incredibly sad to have read that.

So cute, so talented - so smart & charming. As has been said elsewhere, smart enough to know when to grow up & get out of Hollywood.
