My guess is that either a better show was on another channel or, more likely, people were unhappy with the result of BB Australia 2012 (not solely the winner, but the overall season). It seems the 2012 show didn't create a strong base that continued to the following season. When Big Brother came back to our screens in 2012, we saw a launch of 1.7mill, peaking at 2mill. The rest of the series averaged 1mill, and scored well for evictions and daily shows. The Grand Finale scored 1.5mill. In 2013 Big Brother twisted its way onto our screens, but the hype wasn't as Nine anticipated. Launch scored 1.3mill. Evictions and daily shows sunk to 800k, with the series averaging 890k, and the grand finale scoring 1.5mill. Both series were in the same timeslot, with similar competition, and a similar tv landscape. My question is, why did it fall so bad? I don't think it came down to the housemates, otherwise the hole series would have sunk below 1mill in 2012. Last year Big Brother was quite a flop ratings wise, yet was better than the 2012 series. This year big brother is doing well. In its timeslot. But the real question is why did the ratings crash after 1 year? Will it ever return to 2012 ratings figures? And how the HECK, are nine finding a way to F@#K Big Brother up? Fanks.
I feel this current season had a strong start because of following the Block and because I think most people felt positive about the 2013 show and looked forward to this one. But I feel they've made too many changes and overly complicated the voting and eviction process. At the same time, they have shown less of the individual housemates.
How is anyone going to decide who to vote for? Even if you are willing to spend money to save one housemate, what if you don't care about their partner? And, even if you do spend money, you still may not save the housemate you want, because the house could still evict them.
I mean, are there any characters Australia cares about? I feel the cast could be good but the twists and the weird editing has hurt them.
Maybe it doesn't matter because Gemma is almost certainly first out.
(Sorry if my response got too off topic, but I feel it relates to ratings.)
