2014 Ratings Thread

I usually get my ratings figures from TV Tonight. They turn up in the mornings after 9 some time. They're on the right hand side of the Home page.

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/

And if you click on there, on "more on the latest ratings", you get taken to the fuller figures for that day, including demos, etc. eg:

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2014/10/wednesday-15-october-2014.html

David Knox has a reputable website, has good updates on programming, and gets his ratings from a legitimate source. People will still complain!

Thats where I check them too.

A few pluses...

Again nothing hit over 1 million last night

David Attenborough 855k, BB 560k = 65% of it's lead-ins' audience

last week The Block 1.319k, BB 688k = 52%

Look, we need to face facts. The numbers aren't great.

BUT... the positive is, they are getting the Demo's which means, despite the crap number, the right people are still watching the show.

I think it's 50/50 with a renewal. It's a bit of a worry with the schedule changes, etc but then again It all comes down to what 9 has planned in their schedule for 2015 and whether the show is financially viable (aka) they are making money on what they're spending on the production.

If ratings don't improve, do you think another network will pick it up or is it gone for good?

I dont think TEN can afford to bid for it, I think they lost $168Million this past year. That only leaves 7. I wish, as a couple of you have suggested, that SBS could get hold of it, I'm sure they would find a way to make money out of it and air it for longer hours than 9 are. 24/7 footage and without ads, we are lucky to get 5 hours a week, out of 168 hours footage, from 9. Its a disgarce and the public are voting with thiri remotes and turning it off.

It started with lousy schedule changes, now we dont get a show on Friday and Sunday, how is that maximising their investment? They can already see the writing on the wall, despite some eternal optimist in here.

On Channel Nine at least, it's as dead as disco.
Current management are not the same guys who signed up for BB three plus years ago. The original aim of signing BB was to help Nine attract a younger demographic. Research showing that young people are far more likely to time shift or torrent shows have meant a change in strategy. The demographic most likely to sit and watch television live - suffering the advertisements that pay the freight - is the demographic LEAST likely to watch BB, and indeed MOST likely to flip channels at the sight of it.
Maybe Pay TV...maybe SBS? But on free to air television, BB is toast.

From Tim Dormers' twitter account, about an hour ago.

Just got word from management, @BBAU9 officially axed due to ratings. I can't believe I will be the last ever winner of @BBAU9 #winner

As Alex apparently confirmed to @Tim the reason the Thursday and Friday shows feel more old school BB is because Nine doesn't care about ratings on those nights so he's given more freedom. Something that's taken me quite a few years to get used to because in the US, Thursday primetime from 8-11pm was IT. Here it seems like it's filler program.

Thursday night

512,000 - fourth in its timeslot
Total people #21
25-54 #10
18-49 #4
16-39 #4

Well Nine have well and truly killed Big Brother, whatever hope I had left of it coming back next year has now been quashed.

Yikes. Worst Thursday so far.

When broadcasters don't have confidence or stability in their scheduling, viewers get confused and just give up... This is sad...

Well reason I wasn't watching last night is I was out for dinner, and following that have a whole 4 days of nothing from BB. So I decided to watch it on the weekend when I have some spare time and no Big Brother to be seen for days.... I'm sure a lot of others did the same lol.

Thursday nights are also late night shopping nights in a lot of places. So stores are open late, people are working. Not traditionally I high rating night. But this quite a drop in numbers.

Big Brother really relied on The Block I think...
