It usually sounds clearer when it's dubbed. I'm sure it happened in 10's days too, but even then we typically had three different voices. Even Farmer Dave said he regularly spoke to an black english lady in the diary room. Also, unlike OG UK, 10 seemed to record the voice of god directly and added it to the edit. At various times you can hear the echoy voice heard on the housemates mics immediately cut to a clear sounding audio track.

Don't mind me. I work in TV and notice random shit like that.
Oh not at all. I’m very much the same and in tune with observing cuts or post-production edits too. Sometimes they’re just too hard to miss.

With the original Ten era, I always felt it was more that you could tell when just the Diary Room BB might’ve had a dub, more than anything else. Particularly when it was clear that a HM was, or had just been having, a conversation with either Carmel or a producer. There were other instances when it seemed obvious that footage of a HM listening or responding to BB didn’t quite align with the version of BB that we were hearing as a viewer. These, for the most part, are acceptable imo. And the majority of Ten’s era never really shied away from featuring the multiple Deputy BB voices, especially in later years, so it was never really an issue.

It’s what went on with BB’s voice during the Nine era, and of-course especially Seven (which is totally the blueprint for ITV’s current BBUK), that the problem lies.

I understand that nowadays there’s probably somewhat of a general expectation to keep the “character” of Big Brother the same for viewers - an unfortunate precedent now set by the aforementioned two previous iterations - but I do hope Ten can find a balance in keeping it realistic again.

Re: Voice I just don't like it whenever they try to have a single voice to be "the" Big Brother. The earlier seasons all had a mix of voices and added to the feeling of it being an omnipotent being watching the housemates, not a person behind a camera. Ditto when BB tries to be "cheeky".
Totally agree with this. Big Brother isn't one person, so don't try and pretend it is. And I also agree with @dasnico that Ten were dubbing it in as well at times. The variety of BB voices makes it more real, less manipulated. Once they overdub it they can also change what was actually said (I'm looking at you Seven). Keep the original voices and authenticity.

Is there any word on who will be the narrator?

Hopefully not Mike Goldman I think he's become a conspiracy theorist cooker.

…except for considering Terri winning as a genuinely emotional moment! wtf is that lmao
I get more emotional watching the 8-minute highlight video at the end of the season and hearing "Australia Big brother would like to thank you for your company over the past 8 years, it is now time to go but remember Big brother is always watching. That is all............. For now" then I do about Terri winning.

Also, I have been wondering if they will have Leon do a bit at the end of the session 8 marathon on the back of him saying "That is all....... For now", something along the lines of BB back on Ten after 17 years or "Big brother has been watching and is ready to welcome you back to his new house" 🤔

I get more emotional over Gretel being hit in the head by a rubber chicken than I do about Terri winning.

It's one of my ongoing gripes with the BBUK reboot - they followed AU's footsteps to have only one BB voice. They must have to redub sections of the daily show afterwards because there's no way the same producer is there all the time.

Blame Germany for this. When they introduced a Nick-like voice in Germany in 2007, they introduced the voice as "Big Brother himself will talk to you" and he spoke in first person right away.

He’s only been around for the live shows and got dubbed in whenever necessary (which didn’t happen to often based on how Germany produces the show, which is closer to the US-style than the UK-style). Back then, some housemates referred to him as the Monday voice since the live shows were on Mondays.

It led to an interesting moment on the celebrity season. One of the celebrities was happy that the Big Brother voice talked to her during the live show and complained that he’s not talking to them more often.

Big Brother responded by telling her that they hear them everyday (which is true for the celebrity version, which is live everyday.. he’s just not talking to all of them in the diary room) but the housemates came back with saying that it’s pre-recording and people are just pushing buttons. (Which is true for the calls for people to come to the dairy room or reprimanding them not to sleep during the day).

Big Brother then just sent her out of the diary room. Probably couldn’t figure out how to respond.

The 7 version actually adopted quite a few things from the German version, like the sewers or the challenge courtyard with the shipping containers.

ITV ex housemates have stated afterwards that they hear different producers throughout the day.

We’ve heard this, too. Very early in the reboot days, people thought that production used AI to make everyone sound the same. But then one of the first live streams, we’ve heard a regular producer and that theory was debunked.

And then last year, we’ve heard a regular voice on one of the eviction shows when a housemate had to leave through the garden. They were picked up by the casting producer and everyone was excited to seem them until the production voice told them to get inside.

The TV voice has been around for busier days though. I think it was Jenkin who said that whenever that voice woke them up in the morning, they knew they were in for a wild day.

Not words I’d use to describe what a BB voice should sound like. Then again I’m someone who liked the original BBUK voices which sounded less like characters and more like people.

As for Leon I don’t think he’s a bad choice and does a decent job balancing BB having a “personality” while still maintaining an imposing quality that commands respect… Unlike whoever is currently the main BBUK voice who IMO sounds like a children’s show narrator.

Nick may be the voice the bulk of us associate with BBAU but TBH the way nominations were handed during that era leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There’s definitely a fine line between being imposing and commanding respect and being a complete asshole. I feel like Leon’s BB is more approachable in that regard.
I do agree. I remember the 2006 season and thought wow this guy is incredibly harsh.
Leon is a safe solid pick but I was hoping they would go someone different for this season. He has had his go, however again is a safe solid choice.

Leon was my personal favourite voice from the ten era, and it enjoyed him on the nine seasons as well. I think it’s a good choice for continuity.

I can get why some don’t want him but it just seems right in my mind to choose him. The seven era needs to be ignored but there are lots of people in the 16-39 demo that need to be won over, and those people are likely to remember the nine era with Leon.

I wonder if we'll get any form of opening titles for this season 🤔 they've been belting the theme, so one would hope so. Just thinking of the rides they could incorporate but King Claw doesn't open until the end of the year, so maybe they'll just go with similar titles to the 01/02 series. I wasn't a fan of the 2008 and channel 9 era titles showcasing the housemates, but that's just my opinion haha.

Big Brother pretty much confirmed for the 7:30 slot.

I feel like it was always going to be the case, as it is with all of ten's major reality shows. We're probably in for standard 8:30/8:40 finishes Tuesday-Friday and I would expect Sunday and Mondays to go for 90 minutes. Mondays in theory could even be standard sized as well.

Luckily the Aussie version has pretty much always labeled the seasons by year rather than number. So even if we just call it BB2025 it pretty much leaves it up to the individual viewer if they want to count seasons "9-15" in the show's canon.

In terms of demographics I tend to believe this series is generally being targeted towards the demographic that watched the original run and the cast should reflect that. So basically 50% of those who’d fall in the age range of your typical OG fan 25+ and 50% of 18 to 25 year olds.
I agree, and am really hoping this is the case, which signs are pointing it will be.

A small odd part of me fears they might play OG and have an all under 30 cast. i think they will really really stuff this up if all the cast is under 30, most of the OG viewers will not watch a bunch of younglings they can not relate to anymore. And let’s be real most people under 25 these days do not watch free to air TV, some do not even know what the Voice is. It is definitely not their first preference when watching tv.

I was thinking, and with 10’s partnership with paramount I don’t think it’d be half a bad idea as a marketing strategy if they made exclusives to paramount plus, like an uncut show, unrestricted live feeds, potentially some form of games or insider/panel show, hence they could brand paramount plus almost like a “home of big brother”. It Could make it feel less like a free to air tv show and help it reach a whole new audience and younger people, especially since paramount has over 3 million subscribers in Aus. There’s definitely beliefs out there free to air shows are for older people or are dated, which this could help remove and be great for the shows success.

TBH in an ideal world the split would be 70% those who could have been cast on the original run and 20% Gen Z but I know that would never happen. I think it would be an interesting social experiment to see what a majority prime era cast would be like back in the house in 2025.

As for concerns about whether or not we’ll see the casting follow the same demographics as the OG series, I guess they “could” but I don’t think it’s the reality in 2025. I remember Peter saying the reason the cast sked younger had to do with their competition being Home & Away which isn’t the case anymore.

Not hearing a lot if at all from the fat cats at 10 does leave the door open for their strategy including pulling in younger viewers however it appears that unlike ITV that’s not their main goal. We have heard from Mel on several occasions and her messaging has been hyper focused on invoking the nostalgia we all have for the OG series. It seems to me that their strategy has been what I’ve been saying all along which is building a show the fans will watch who will in turn share it with their friends and family.

I don’t think Paramount+ is part of their strategy nor do I think it’s a good idea for it to be. The main issue is accessibility and they’d be limiting themselves putting anything behind a paywall as the show simply isn’t popular or proven enough in 2025 to see any benefits from it. Piracy is on the rise again because streaming service aren’t providing the value they once did, with rising subscription prices and limited content across multiple platforms it’s become Cable TV 2.0. Delivering everything through the 10 app means people are more likely to give the show a chance because they can and it’s free to do so.

My biggest wish being that they be reasonable with sharing their copyrighted content. They don’t need to allow for full episodes to be uploaded to YouTube but they also don’t need to be heavy handed if someone has uploaded a few minute snippet of an episode or live feed to whatever platform. It’s those user uploaded clips that are going to help sell the show and pull in new viewers. I don’t think they can afford to turn away that kind of grassroots viewer engagement.
