Australian Idol 2024

It also shows where I am not looking, because I didn't notice any near wardrobe malfunctions.
The judges talked about it afterwards... that's why they were telling her not to let anyone (meaning wardrobe staff or stylists) put her in anything she's not comfortable in.

Yeah, the way they were talking about it made it sound like something horribly embarrassing, but I didn't notice a thing.

By the way... I meant to mention that there's a lot of discussion in other social media that the sound engineering just wasn't up to scratch last night. So essentially, if the band is drowning out the singer, it may very well not be the singer's fault at all... in fact, it may be grossly unfair to them.

We're about to hear a slow version of Uptown Girl from Ripley now.
All it takes to be considered a genius on this show is to slow down a fast song, or speed up a slow song.

Kyle's musical taste is truly bad if that 'Shut Up & Dance" is one of his all time favourite songs.

Since @Sephrenia asked so nicely I'm back...

Imogen Spendlove - Finally
Sound mixing is definitely off. Much better song for her than last week but her performance is lacking a bit. It's just not matching the energy of the song, at one point she awkwardly stops (very out of breath BTW) to throw some confetti which very much highlighted how awkward and disjointed everything was. Not off to a great start.

Issac McCallum - Wake Me Up
Where did they find this guy? Same criticism as last week... He has zero stage presence. First half of the song was decent but he ended the song on the verge of screaming. Not worthy of the stage. GTFO.

Drea Onamade - Lil Boo Thang
Very odd song choice. Once again sticking to what I said last week... She'd probably have gotten a better performance on The X Factor. Is the show picking the songs for them or is this blunder all on her?

Dylan Wright - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Props for having the guts to do a different arrangement but too bad he picked the wrong song to do it with. There's no depth to the original lyrics and it only works because it's an up tempo song. It was so bad that I couldn't even finish watching his performance. I'm only watching the performances and nothing else, are these kids getting any sort of critiques and/or coaching? Because whoever told him this was a vibe needs to be taken out back...

TJ Zimba - Party Rock Anthem
I like this guy, I really do but WTF was that? I couldn't finish this one either. Where are the adults in the room? And/or who's telling these kids this shit is good?

Kiani Smith - Cheap Thrills
Sung well and I liked the country twang in the mix but two major criticisms... The performance was soulless and it's a song that's been covered to death. Are they paying the crowd to scream? Because this wasn't worth the big deal they put up for her... Again Idol in it's prime wouldn't have put up with a mediocre performance like this one.

Denvah Baker-Moller - 9 to 5
This should have been a 30 second TikTok not a Top 12 performance. Bland, and far too old of a song for her.

Ripley Alexander - Uptown Girl
I can't. One note and really needs to do something other than panty wetting.

Amy Reeves - Ain’t No Other Man
Better than last week but IDK I still don't feel she's living up to her full potential. I'd love to see her on something more contempary as once again this song felt just a little too old for her.

Ivana Ilic - Waiting All Night
Dance music is definitely her vibe but not a great song choice for her. Her voice really got lost in the BV's during the hook and she's almost screaming to get above them. I'm pretty much over EDM as a genre so found this coming accross as very dated. Would have loved her to do something like Rui Da Silva's - Touch Me. Mel C did a decent cover of it a few years ago that I think really would have worked really well for her.

Trent Richardson - Shut Up and Dance
It's giving wedding singer. GTFO.

Tyler Hammill - Pompeii
This didn't showcase anything other than weak vocals and an even weaker performance.

Overall an even weaker show than last week. These kids really need some coaching and direction as so many in the group just aren’t firing. I said last week I don’t know what they’re getting behind the scenes but they really need an in house mentor or team of mentors to push them to the next level. We’re getting served a lot of TikTok not Australian Idol level talent.

Well I thought it was a car crash tonight. Maybe party music has changed since my day, but I found it all dreary.
RedFoo? Good god.
I did like seeing Ce Ce Peniston, though Imogen murdered her song.

I thought the point of moving to more generic themes was so they could showcase more contemporary music?

Sound mixing was only part of the problem the other was this group just aren’t brining A level talent. So many dated and just pain odd song choice along with sub par performances.

I think Isaac has the best male voice still in the competition. I have everything crossed for him that all his performances go well even though there are aspects of this whole competition that don't come easily to him.
Must be something I’m missing having jumped in when I did and only watching the actual performances cause IMO he’s easily the weakest in the Top 12.

According to the Australian Idol's official social media pages... we are to prepare ourselves for a "SHOCK RESULT" 😲😲😲
But you know... they always say that.

The show so far:

They've put Ricki-Lee in a better dress this time around. By that I mean the cut of it actually makes sense for a dress (whereas some of them have been kind of ridiculous).

Amy Shark is wearing an outfit that she got from the future (I'm assuming).

Marcia Hines has a Marge Simpson hairdo.

In the bottom two are: TJ and Imogen (one of them will go tonight)

Those safe are Drea, Kiani, Isaac (and Dylan as judges' pick)

And then this all happens again tomorrow night with the second group.

Here's the bit that doesn't make much sense... the bottom two each perform as though it's going to save them, but isn't the result written in stone now anyway?
