2014 Ratings Thread

Can't we at least compare the ratings week by week to this season? It seems they are not holding their expected audience and they started higher than last year. Can we compare with last year?

I'm interested to see what an earlier timeslot brings if people haven't been watching. But maybe people will just watch whatever is on that channel?

How many channels do you get in Australia? Here it varies a lot by which cable package you have. I know more and more people who don't even use cable at all anymore. They watch everything online.

in OZ you have the 5 major FTA players: ABC, SBS (both government funded, but SBS also has commercials) and 7, 9 and 10.

with the new digital TV era each of these now have extra channels
ABC: ABC2, ABC3, ABC News 24 (HD)
SBS: SBS2/HD
7: 7TWO, 7MATE (HD), 4ME(shopping)
9: GO!, Gem (HD), Extra/2(shopping)
10: One (HD), 11

and theres other regional ones that arent worth mentioning.

Despite the fact that Australia now only has DTV, the extra channels never rate as well as the originals.

we also have cable, but really isnt as popular as in the US.

If you're asking for a comparison, connie's charts offer a YOY view that compares this years viewer totals to last year. (Click the appropriate green button at the top of the page).

If you're asking SHOULD we compare the two, well I think you might find differing opinions on that.

What was on Australian tv last year in the same slot as Big Brother is last year?
I'm curious how that show did.
Big brother is later but the lead in of the block should be helping? Maybe?

Nostalgia lifts SBS but Nine wins Sunday

Reality TV and News again dominated Sunday viewing but there was the odd bright spot in entertainment for TEN and SBS.
But ABC will be looking with some concern to its numbers for critically-acclaimed drama The Code.

Nine network won another Sunday with a share of 33.2% then Seven 29.3%, TEN 16.1%, ABC 14.2% and SBS 7.2%.

The Block was out in front with 1.55m for Nine then Nine News (1.15m), 60 Minutes (1.03m) and Big Brother (558,000)...

1. The Block 9 - 1.546 million
2. Seven News Sunday 7 - 1.154 million
3. Nine News Sunday 9 - 1.146 million
4. The X Factor Live Performance 7 - 1.113 million
5. 60 Minutes 9 - 1.032 million
6. Sunday Night 7 - 1.027 million
7. ABC News ABC1 - 767k
8. Scorpion 10 - 597k
9. The Code ABC1 - 584k
10. Doctor Who ABC1 - 569k
11. Big Brother 9 - 558k

BB won its timeslot AGAIN.

Those Big Brother figures are preliminary only and based on previous weeks will go down. Last Sunday's episode lost over 60,000 when final numbers came out due to the show starting and finishing later than shown in the EPG.

Where did it lose 60k on Sunday?

The latest Sunday consolidated #s we have so far are from Sept 14th and they went UP 63k from 645 to 708k.

Channel 9 will go with whatever figure makes them look best - overnight, consolidated, demo rank etc.

But the fact of the matter is by looking at connie's graphs BB2014 is hemorrhaging viewers badly.

No, the numbers were
Overnight 605,00
Consolidated 707,000
Increase 16.8% 102,000 - 6th highest increase for that night.

The preliminary number for every daily show seen on the main channel has been marked down in final numbers so any rankings that are seen are also affected.

Fair enough but it's not Ch 9 who is releasing all of these numbers or writing the articles. Look at the shows that beat BB last night... none were even on at the same time. More people watched BB than anything else on FTA. There aren't throngs of viewers watching something else when they could've been watching BB instead. That's something as a fan we should be happy about. It's almost like people want it to do badly. Even when the figures say it's not.

@IRT5 The numbers I was quoting were the ones redjet posted as he doesn't adjust when posting the consolidated #s. If BB drops with the overnights, so does everything else. With your numbers BB actually gained more with the consolidated figures than what was posted in here. Even better!
