2014 Today I ......

Today I had the privilege and blessing of being with a parishioner as she died. I was actually annointing her at the time. Ruby turned 98 on Wednesday and had been with her whole family all together. She ended up in hospital that afternoon. Ruby has been 'wanting to go' for a couple of months and her passing was peaceful and easy. May you rest in peace, Ruby.

...oh wow qtkt... that must be such a moving experience... I guess that being there for a birth of a child or the death of a person must be the opposite ends of amazing experiences... I've never been there to see a persons passing... I'm not too sure on how I would handle that moment myself... you are an inspiration... cheers.:)

Thanks Sticky. And I will have one of those surreal experiences on Friday. A baptism of an infant at 11am and the funeral for the lady I annointed at 1pm. Plus her husband's ashes are to be placed in the casket with her. I am incredibly privileged to be invited to be with people at their most vulnerable times.

...to be totally honest with you qtkt... and I really mean this... I've never really understood so well before as to why people like yourself take on the roles of being pastors / vicars etc until you expressed it as...

..."Today I had the privilege and blessing of being with a parishioner as she died"....

...I had never thought of it like that before... 61 years old and you opened my eyes to something I never understood before... thankyou for that!... (I'm never too old to learn something in my life I guess!... lol!)...:)

...as I said before... you really are an inspiration... and... I hope that the day goes well for you on Friday... (I'm pretty sure that both services are in good hands with you somehow lol!:biggrin:)... again... thanks qtkt... cheers.:)

Thanks again Sticky . Tomorrow will be emotionally draining but a good day. It's always a joy to baptise a bub (though there is a frustration in assisting people to have their kids 'done' knowing you won't see them again). My baptism services are interactive and everyone seems to have fun at the time - and it's bright and happy.

Not sure if you can understand this, but the second service of the day will be the one I 'enjoy' the most. I love funeral ministry - and if it is for a family you know and love (like Ruby's ) even more so. I honestly feel that the funeral is part of the healing process for the bereaved and - if carefully done - can make the most difficult day of all a bit easier. I'm all for allowing almost anything to be included if it will contribute to a meaningful experience .

For example, tradition in our church for practicing members is to place Christian symbols on the casket along with a very short prayer with each (bible, cross, etc). Ruby is also going to have a jar of pickles and a chocolate slice because that's what she loved (to make and eat and share)

I did Ruby's son in law's funeral last year and instead of a hymn we had the stock report!

Sorry to blabber on.

...lol!... you're not blabbering on qtkt... quite the opposite to be truthful... the fact that you're going to 'enjoy' the funeral service more makes complete sense to me now... that is the final steps of acknowledgement of a persons entire lifetime so to speak... whereas a birth is the beginning of many years of future contacts with that particular individual...

...your services sound great... a jar of pickles and a chocolate slice for this service and a stock report previously you say?... lol!... that's fascinating!... you are the real life 'Vicar of Dibley' aren't you?... (meant in a nice complimentary way of course)... you seem to me that you'd be a really fun kind of person to meet in real life qtkt...

...I must say... I myself am not a religious person at all but I do see why so many people are... thanks for the enlightening education qtkt... you sound like you definitely are the coolest vicar in the village to me!... lol!... have a great day tomorrow... cheers.:)

I've been likened to the Vicar of Dibley many times. Not quite as big as her but could lose quite a few kgs. I consider it a compliment.

This is me at work - you can see there is some resemblance.

Actually Sticky, I wasn't singing - I was proclaiming the Gospel ! However, I do have to lead singing at almost every service. I'm an enthusiastic singer and used to sing in a small choir. However, a soloist I am not ! Most definitely. :headphone:

TODAY I: ...I've had the 'man flu' for the past 2 days and have obviously been knocking on Death's door because as we all know... man flu is more painful that giving birth for instance :whistling:... I've had to stay indoors for the last 2 days to struggle with the fight for life... I can't say that I'm recovering yet... I still feel like total crap... I think that I caught it while I was in Queensland a few days back...

...I know that a few people may doubt that man flu is so traumatizing to men because we obviously don't show outwardly that we are suffering... the fact that we don't whinge or whine or moan about it and bravely soldier on silently gives the false impression that we are not suffering at all... gosh we men are quiet heroes aren't we?... what's that out there ladies?... do I hear some collective scoffing?... well... man flu is real!... man flu is potentially lethal!... you don't believe me?... well take a look at the website...

...here is the 'snotometer' that is within the website'...

...I've reached the severe Man flu stage and am hovering around the 'critical Man flu' stage... but being the quiet unassuming heroic type I'll battle on through it... I really do recommend that all the sweet ladies on these forums read 'The Woman's Role' section on that website because I'm sure that you would all like to be doing a bedside vigil beside your husband while he is nearly dying of this horrendous affliction when it happens to us devoted husbands?... anyhow... I guess that I'll just continue my battle in dignified silence as I always do... **cough cough splutter splutter** don't worry about me... I'll be fine... **cough cough**... cheers.:vomit:

"today i ..." continue to suffer from a little mishap i had the other day while wielding a lump of cold hard steel in the direction of a sharp metal pointy thing with the view of using said pointy thing to hold a couple of lumps of wood together.

As you can see, something got in the way.

munted.jpg
Can you tell what ?

It looks and feels far worse than the above less than happy snap.

Talk about mashed/munted ! ... and the amazing thing is I didn’t swear !

The above photo was taken two days after the damage was done. The first night I could hardly sleep because of the pain; I ended up wearing a ski-glove to bed to protect it and the last thing LSCP and I were thinking of was taking a photo of it.

The nail is basically floating about the place and dark blood is slowly seeping past one edge of it.

To breathe is to hurt coz to breathe is to give the heart something to do, such as pump blood where blood currently cannot easily fit !

Lol.

Yet I can still type ... I just can't feel what I'm typing though. :-)

Trouble is, we've got a muso jam thing planned for this weekend.

Looks like I won't be playing the sax or guitar or banjo or fiddle or mandoline. etc etc. I might be able t0 manage the slide guitar (if I play it backwards and use my munted/mashed finger as the slide) but I guess I'm gunna have to stick to the cowbell. Lol.

As per:

Ironically enough, this little bird actually owns a cowbell.

it's black and made by "pearl"

Yup, "derspatz" ala "the sparrow" captains a "black pearl". lol

Anyhoo, back to our “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie marathon ... and more rum to keep my munted finger from noticing how painfukly ruined it currently is !

Not sure if any of you remember but in September 2012 my sister took a stand against her violent ex and ceased all contact with him and moved overnight and has been hiding from him since?

She won her family court case against him yesterday. It's been a long hard frightening two years. But finally it's over.
