What's for dinner?

Daughter and her boyfriend cooked our tea, Asian Chicken hotpot, it was spicy, hot and delicious and there is enough left over to take to work tomorrow. :)

Also loving the new avatar Eliza.........getting more depressed about election time, and the nasty Aussie attitude politicians are pushing.

We were once friendly people:(

How many Aussies can hold up a hand and say they had no relatives seeking a better life here or anywhere, either by force or choice?

Where do you come from?
Do you feel the entitlement Abbott and lots of Australians have for no good reason other than being born lucky?
I don't feel this thing, like ownership.
I feel privilege/luck/and unqualified to decide on other peoples fate.
I feel we should consult the indigenous people, the real owners of this land - they couldn't do worse than we have.

And when is it OK to just shut the door if someone is dying on your doorstep?
Abbott your going to hell.

Indeed! I am so grateful for the rich mix of cultures that we have in Australia and I hate that we are failing ourselves as well as our global neighbours when it comes to dealing with those who are dispossessed and helpless.

We are judged, rightly now. And we will be judged in history harshly.

Reminds me of a game we played as kids, as many kids as you can get, a rug, a yard - everyone scatters, a person is it, it calls TIMEs UP, everyone has to be on or under the rug, any little bit dangling...........................fate got you your lost

I am a migrant, my family was lucky enough to want to immigrate at a time when there was virtually no criteria and the price was 10 Pounds. I will be forever grateful that my mum and dad made such a brave decision to move across the other side of the world for the hope of a better life for us all. :) Why do so many people think Asylum Seekers are evil, ffs they must be desperate to risk their lives and the lives of their families to try and get here. So much hate for them, I just don't get it, it makes me sad.

I don't think I have ever met anyone who doesn't have a migrant parent or grandparent, convict or asylum seekers like my family both sides - well of course I must but you know what I mean, just about everyone is a migrant or close enough.

My family ran away from Chinese tyranny and Irish starvation, likely neither would get in now.

Where they £10 Pom's? Saw an amazing doco about the programme which was really touching! Glad to see some more liberal asylum views on here.

Too true! My maternal grandparents left Spain after the civil war and didn't exactly go through official channels to get here but no one tells them to go home. Most likely cos they're European so "it's ok".

I bet our ATSI brothers and sisters wish they'd turned back the boats! Ultimately, we're all immigrants/asylum seekers on these shores. Generosity of spirit and understanding of our international obligations has sadly been missing for the last decade or so. I am so disappointed in both major political parties for playing to the electorates basest sentiments by encouraging racism, disharmony and selfishness.

...my parents / brother and sister and I were £10 Pom's... I turned 14 just six days after we arrived... both my parents are dead now but I will never ever stop being eternally grateful for what they did to give us a better life... Australia is the best place in the world to live... I can understand why people risk their lives to enable them to appreciate something that so many take for granted... thanks mum... thanks dad... cheers.

Ooo, ooo, ooo, you reminded me, I saw a doco about the beginning of the old white aussie shit being taken down.
Really interesting stuff, how pollies after the war went to Europe and hand picked the first recruits for the first boat of non poms migrating.
IE it was a big PR exercise. when I say hand picked, they had plenty clambering to choose from, but they spoke different languages, looked different, diff customs religions and all that kind of stuff.
And Aussies it seems were treated like ignorant children.
The pollies were there to pick pretty people, who looked as much like whitey as possible or were just stunningly beautiful.
The first boat was ALL beautiful looking people. How weird - but probably great for our gene pool!

................................................................have they/you struck racist shit though?
The poor Italians and Greeks took quite a bit of abuse before it seems Aussies decided they love them.

Back to dinner???
Chicken sticks and rice - Chadstone does great satay or chinese chicken sticks, on special I got 20 for $10.

Kind of, my parents are Scottish and Irish :D and we actually came out twice, in 1963 and 1969, the second time Australia kindly let us in we were full paying migrants.

Yep. :)

Tea tonight is a VERY HOT beef curry I made in the slow cooker on the weekend, I am not much of a beef eater but it's so good done in the slow cooker.

Tonight I had some delicious Thai Green Curry cooked by the experts.

Not that my grandparents ever mentioned but they were only in their 20s when they left. I think my mum got a few "wog" comments thrown her way during school becuase they wrongly assumed she was Italian whenever she spoke to her parents in Spanish.

Tonight I cooked tandoori chicken with a cucumber yoghurt sauce for 70, omlettes with spinach sauce for 50, rice pilaf, mash potatoes, corn and beans. Oh and Mexican bean salad for 6. And salad bar.

When I got home I had toast.

Good grief! I could never be chef, allican. If my job was cooking I'd never, never cook at home. Power to you, though; that all sounds delish! Even the toast ;)
