So the ratings for 2012 are in and the top 20 shows are... DA DA DUM...

So no BB, of course, and The Voice is the big winner. What do you think about the other big winners? I really thought that Downton Abbey might beat Revenge. Masterchef needs a bit of a revamp, too, but I do love it.

My viewing habits must be more off beat than I thought. Out of those top 20 I watched four. It's not that I don't watch tv, it's just that I don't watch that stuff. More SBS and ABC stuff. (British comedy appeals to me much more than US comedy on the commercial channels) I've very surprised My Kitchen Rules beat Masterchef! IMO Masterchef is the much better produced and more interesting show. I always thought MKR was a bit like the cheapie knock off trying to muscle in on a bit of cooking fever created by MC. I watch both but prefer MC.

I don't understand the massive preference for MKR over MasterChef either. I watch both, but find MC the real deal, MKR is take-it-or-leave-it. I watched 7 of those 20 shows.

I only watch 3 of those shows regularly, I catch another 3 now and then

Too many food shows on TV no wonder people are fat.

Because if you take food shows off tv people will stop eating? Hardly. They ate before the food shows were on tv.

There is only one thing that makes fat people. Too much energy in and not enough energy out. Knowing how to cook doesn't make fat people. Having foodie shows on tv has got people back into their kitchens preparing fresh food and out of fast food shops. No way can that be a bad thing.

I'm not fat and nor is anyone in my family and I watch them all PLUS a dozen more food shows on Foxtel.

From the Top 20 I watch MKR, Masterchef and The Block. I probably prefer MC just slightly over MKR.

Is this list based on the average for the series?

I'm surprised to see Winners and Losers up there didn't realise it had such a following, and going along with that would have thought OffSpring would have been up there...

And here's another article on the best of 2012. This is a subjective critics choice, though, not a popular vote.

There are a lot I haven't seen, as with the ratings list, but this does include Foxtel series. Personally, I would put Breaking Bad at number 1, place Game of Thrones higher than Homeland and have included The Walking Dead and The Borgias.

I like your taste, so I'm going to download the Borgias -whatever that is - because the others you picked are excellent shows :)

Why, thank you, allican! The Borgias is an excellent historical drama starring Jeremy Irons as a very randy pope. Every frame is like a classic painting - the production values are truly excellent.

Movie I have wanted to see on 9 tonight, Animal Kingdom, Jacki Weaver got an oscar nomination for this.

Tis very violent I'm told, in the category for me where it has to be dvd or tv, I have to have fast forward or remote to control real & scary violence.

9.30pm

Also Freddie mercury doco, ...........that clashes with this.
