Last movie you saw

Or some there where you weren't human even. Like you were a cartoon character, and could behave so.. although that'd be more the, pluged in consciousness than running around in force fields and holograms. Not just being able to sly, be able to he a shape shifter.

Something like predator or alien, where you're surviving against a monster would be cool also...

i think we can agree there'd be many cool ones.

The Fall

Really is a magnificent movie. It's a 2006 movie that got on to my radar about a year or so ago. Once i saw the trailer, i immediately wanted to see it. It's directed by Tarsem, and wow, this is film making at it's best.

Ever since i saw the trailer I was hooked. At least i knew there would be nice visuals. I had kept my eye out for dvd, even for download, it all just alluded me. Then by chance i found out it was on at ACMI this weekend. There was nothing going to stop me from finally seeing it. Yes i had high hopes, but not super high, i just knew i wanted to see the film. The film was better and more heart-warming than i expected. It is genuinely touching and a superb film. I would put this as one of the finest films i've ever seen.
The little girl in the film is honestly one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen in film. You feel and believe. Basically Lee Pace plays a stuntman (Roy) in hospital with a broken back in 1915 who befriends a young girl with a broken arm. The young girl, Alexandria is the key to the whole movie and wow. She is constantly delightful and amusing while provoking real emotion from watching her performance. Honestly, it is an amazing performance.

But yes, Roy befriends Alexandria, telling her a story in order to get her to do him favours such as stealing drugs. The story is imaginative and visually spectacular brought to life. Through out, there is a great sense the story telling. Something doesn't make sense, Alexandra asks, the story will make adjustments. It really is beautiful. The film was shot in 18 different countries, and really is just amazing to look at it. As pretty as it all is, and the really great sensibilities with the humour through out, the film entirely rests on the young girl.
Honestly I can't recommend this film enough. It truly is superb in every aspect. This is the sort of film which honestly, how did this film not get best picture oscar or something. Or more recognition. The film is beautiful.

Or the character where you have a boring mundane life, then become special and swept up into adventure.

What I wish i was like.... and then what we wish would happen my life... haha

What about you?

You guys happen to be in a marvelous holodeck already. It's absolute cutting edge technology, where your original identity has been temporarily forgotten for a total immersion experience. You're such hardcore players, you've even switched off the safety protocols.

Went to see Confessions of A Shopaholic & 17 Again.
confessions was okay it was a bit girly for me though, but Isla Fisher was quite funny actually and i was suprised how well she pulled it off.

17 Again was much much better I really enjoyed this film. It was so light-hearted and so typical yet it was just a nice humorous flick! Don't go see it expecting to see something uve never seen before, as its been done time and time again; however, if u like this sort of storyline as uve seen it b4 in other movies id recommend it!

Well they do say an advanced civilisation with the ever increasing power of computers would be able to create a huge number of artificial universe simulations and there for the chances of being in the real world opposed to a simulation is incredibly small.

Knowing with Nicolas Cage.

Very disappointing! It's more Sci-fi than thriller and some of the plot devices used were absurd! It was good visually and for a scare but story wise umm.. wtf?

Hannibal over a few days. Watched 30mins here and there. lol.

I just could never get into it as much as Silence. I always found Lecter unscary in Hannibal.

The Uninvited
I'm not really a horror fan so this scared the crap out of me. I did enjoy it though. I really like Elizabeth Banks and Emily Browning.

LOL @ all the "holodeck" whatifs, especially considering that this Intelligently Designed Universe and all that is in it (ie, us) is basically a holodeck (with an obvious beginning and predictable end) we've been temporarily plugged into as a form of "rite of passage", training ground, and sift for sorting souls for eternity, along with a place for those already outside the universe to plug in and slum it here and there.

Which takes me to "Last Movie I Saw", in the context of a "Greater Intelligence Out There Than To Be Found On Earth". :)

Numba1son, LSCP, and I have just got back from seeing "Race to Witch Mountain".

Excellent movie well worth seeing, and a far more enjoyable visit to the theatre than our last shared occasion mentioned earlier in this thread (shudders at the memory).

G rated ... which prolly means it is akin to what "MA" was about 5 years ago. :)

"The Rock" is well cast, so too the kids, and the various USofA "Sci Fi Convention" scenes are as amusing cliche and parody as ever.

Tomorrow will be "inkheart" or "Monsters vs Aliens" after we've done some hooning around in the boat with the donut.

Oh, and a word to the wise in Perth. Book online. We did and jumped a 200+ queue of clueless noisy teenagers enjoying their first official day of school holidays.

Oh, and if two teenagers jump off a cliff together, who wins ?

Answer: Society. :p

I booked online and still had to queue with everyone else. Hoyts and Greater Union suck. Big time.

I watched Notorious the other night. The best thing about this movie was the soundtrack. Sooo glad I watched it at home and not at the pictures.

Hannibal was one of the biggest disappointments of my life, second only to Hannibal Rising, how did they possibly create such absurdity after the brilliance of Silence of the Lambs, though Hopkins is still brilliant and I loved the final scene with the brain.

Jeez. You just cleared out pretty much every movie showing at the local Hoyts there.

Last night I went on with my Cronenberg marathon, and watched Scanners.
More of Cronenbergs twisted mental games. Famous for it's exploding head scene. It's really quite wonderfully icky. As usual, you've got mental and biological weirdness mixed with drugs and evil corporations. Good sick stuff.

How old is your son?

In his final year of school.

And G being akin to M five years ago is ridiculous. Are you serious?

Yeah, maybe a slight exaggeration in terms of "MA", but certainly true of "M".

We also watched the old 1970 "Return from Witch Mountain" on DVD that afternoon (with Christopher Lee as the main villain) and that demonstrated a clear and MASSIVE difference in values between then and what is the norm now near 40 years later.

Yet we dare to call what we have today "progress". :(

Well, that would be true if a progress to the destruction of most things good and decent is the aim ...

So yes, it seems somewhat apparent to me that there has been considerable bracket creep involved when it comes to the ratings systems and indeed much of what is "G" today would have been rated much higher not so long ago.

BTW, and speaking of how standards tend to slip rather than tighten, if you should ever find yourself in Paris watching French TV after midnight, be Very Careful with the channel surfing of public TV !
