Last movie you saw

Had a day off, took the kids to the movies, with a few of their friends. Friggin 80 bucks. They wouldn't take voucher tickets or RACV discount for a 3D movie.
Went to see Monsters v Aliens, obviously.

3D is good. Movie is meh. Not terrible. Just.... it's like watching a recent Simpsons episode. It looks like it's supposed to be funny, but the jokes are too forced and don't really work. Even the kids, who aren't all that fussy came out saying "It was okay, I guess". It's not on their list of "Dad! Dad! PLEASE buy the DVD when it comes out!"

The other thing of note is how in these kids sessions how insane the kids go with popcorn. When the lights come on, the floor was smothered with the stuff. Spread everywhere! No wonder they send in *6* cleaners after each session.

on 3d, got a free copy of Jouney to the center of the Earth 3d on blu-ray... watching it aware it's really just a dumb kids movie.. it was an okish one.. not one the adults can really enjoy. Was hoping there to be a sense of adventure and fun. Some kids movies can still suceed in being entertaining in a light fun way. This just, well it needed more fun and excitement. The center of the earth, there was also some pretty cg work, cartoonish though, but I wanted lots of dinosaurs and cool things. Ah wells.

Anyways, the 3d is terrible. Watching the 3d on blu-ray on a projector, half way through switched to the 2d version. The one 3d with the anaglyph glasses was terrible. I understand there's some better form of home 3D anaglyph glasses, these weren't them. As long as they still have the red and blue type glasses which make the movie as if it's black and white.. yeah it sucks.

3D is a joke anyway.... It's never done properly on DVD and only good on a large screen. But other then that it's a stupid gimmick

Oh no. On the big screen it's beautiful. And on Imax it's friggin awsome.
Obviously it depends on the movie, but in these kiddie CG movies.... it was the best thing about M vs A.

But on your TV it's a nice occasional novelty, but more hassle than it's worth most times.

Hehe I think that's what I said . On a big screen it's good. Pity you have to wear silly glasses to get the effect and lose the colour definitions.

Imagine if movies were like holodecks

well they are working on a 3d bluray format, and home equipment to have the new cinema style good 3d at home. still a few years off though.

ok watched another Uwe Boll film tonight.

Tunnel Rats

And what can I say, it was actually quite a good film. It's about a platoon of US soldiers in the Vietnam war who's job is to crawl into Vietcong tunnels, and flush out and kill the enemy. Forget story, this film has none, what it is however is just a thrilling, entertaining and suspenseful film, that essential takes place entirely in one "battle". You can flaw it about having no character development, but it doesn't need any. It's just about the experience.
I always remember in history class learning about these tunnels, being told how these guys would enter not knowing what was around the dark corners, the boobie traps, the water traps, the spike bits, yet you never got a sense of what these really were. This film actually captures the suspense and unknown element of these guys in these tunnels quite well. That's basically what the film is, the bulk takes place over one day, so there's no need for story. It's about people in war, under siege trying to fight. It makes the point that basically both sides are just there trying to survive.

So yeah i'd recommend it to someone if they want a thrilling entertaining film, and don't care if there's no story. The first 20minutes or so is just setting up the soldiers as real people, the rest is just a fast paced fight for survival. It's quite well acted and directed. Honestly you would not think this was boll if you saw it with out that information.

I think one thing with Boll films is, there's a crap factor, of bad acting, bad sets, bad directing which is where he falls down. The crap factor on this is quite low, nothing stood out as bad.Sure it's not as thrilling being caught in battle as something like black hawk done, but the scope is much much smaller, and it genuinely had suspense.

Hey Up_all_night..

If movies could be like the holodeck and a full 3d interactive experience like on Star Trek what movies woould you put on that you'd like to jump into.

I'd like to actually jump into a historical one. See what it was like in ancient egypt, ancient rome, walk the streets ect. Mainly the different worlds, different cultures. I find fascinating films not set in our current modern world. So something not contemporay. Even future or alien ect. The same way when i travel I like to visit places with different cultures with lots of history. So that'd be cool, i guess i'm treating it more as a virtual holiday than a movie aspect of a holodeck.

So then movie wise, something action adventure, be James Bond, be Indiana Jones, that sort of character. How much fun would that be!
Although how cool would it to do a star wars one, where you're living a boring life, then get into adventure, space, have special powers ect. Besides the family dying, evil father stuff, could be a fun adventure.

So i guess mine would be, by the confident charming male lead in action adventure excitement films.

Or the character where you have a boring mundane life, then become special and swept up into adventure.

What I wish i was like.... and then what we wish would happen my life... haha

What about you?

If I had my own holodeck I'd love to do the entire Star Wars trilogy as Luke...... How fun would that be.
