Why was Ben evicted?

I would doubt very highly that BB producers would be able to look at the voting numbers at all until after lines close. Those types of things are heavily regulated. Maybe the truth is Ben wasn't giving anything and BB couldn't build a story line for himself. Most of what we have seen of him in the last couple of weeks has been around the sugar sisters, and once they were gone Ben has just disappeared.

If you want to blame anyone for giving Ed screen time then look no farther then Tim and Drew. I mean people go on about Ed being obsessed with Tim but Tim has been on Ed's case since the begining. So anyone that is Anti-Tim would have been voting for Ed just to piss Tim off. Ben just got caught in the crossfire.

This is strange. Tahan (much as I love her) is usually close to the bottom, while Ben is always at the top. Maybe somehow they got Ben and Tahan's names mixed up (some kind of script error in querying the voting database)? Did something very similar happen with Bree years ago?]

It will interesting to see how Tahan goes the next time she is up for nomination. If she is back at the bottom then it will be suspect.

Ben has been the most saved every time he's been up (as far as I can remember) and he always gets a huge cheer.

I think he got a huge cheer because it's shot in QLD and he's a Queenslander and it wasn't representative of all of Australia.

It's happened before this year. When Matt left, the Sugar Sisters were only marginally ahead of him. The next week they got the most save votes. It's very unpredictable this year for some reason.

I swear if that Date with Ed shit had not happened, he would be out. Why do producers want him in.... because they obviously do !!!

Is this the first time ever the fave to win was struck out like that, Ben was the fave on 1.50 or something to win and 26.00 to go tonight.

That said Ben was basically just background at this stage anyway, he had no storyline apart from the occasional quip or "cutesy" moment. I think the show runners are thrilled hes out firstly for the reasons stated, he became stale and then also for the shock value of tonight.

His shtick ran out of steam in the end. I think he overplayed it and kinda backed himself into a corner with nowhere to go. He needed to develop his character into something more than a lovable awkward dork and I think the intruders messed with his groove on and couldn't get it back on track.

I take back what I said about the producers having a helping hand in tonight's eviction. I don't think they did it intentionally to boot out Ben. Rather, I think that they had planned this date for a while now and wanted to do it before Ed was evicted.

^ This to both.

Ed nearly went. See the difference it was something like 16.9 and 16.8

Eds family needs to stop messing with it. If they had stayed out of it he would have gone like he was meant to and we'd still have Ben.

I guess BB's Ed & Jades Date Night special helped push Ed over the line with the close %.
I think since we didnt see Ben so much in the daily shows, some people may have lost interest but I think so many assumed him and Tim were going to get the top 2 votes, so didnt vote as much this week.

Ben was evicted for the following reasons.

His fans became complacent. This has been a common trend with the vote to save. You still need to vote and can't assume anyone is safe. A few times of a lot of support makes people back off voting. Especially this week. What probably saved Ed over Ben was the apparent, 'sure thing Ed will go' news today.

He wasn't overly involved in social interactions in the house. He kept a lot of distance for a lot of the actual goings on in the show. Remember Big Brother is a show about people in a house interacting. This is the fatal flaw in his plan. He took himself out of the main action in the show.

His playing to the camera's became old and so therefore lost in the edit. Through focusing on doing 'The Ben Show,' his strategy had no long term survival. How often can we see the same tired shtick? How often can we see him talking to photos and other routines? It had no legs to keep getting included in the edit. Why should they keep putting the same routine and act into the show? It got old and there was no point in doing so. Hence why Big Brother would try and set up things to make Ben provide content. Such as bringing Bert and Patti in. They were trying to create Ben content because he was providing nothing usable.

Less house mates make it easier for the editors and producers to focus on the narratives in the house. Which then come across in the edit to a fuller extent than narratives earlier on in the show. Once again Ben was not involved and so absent.

A lot of what ended up being involved was his poor, 'woe is me' routine and a lot of people for various reasons, rightly or wrongly became tired of it and very cynical. The longer he was on the show, the different sides of his character and the lack of an internal logic or consistency did put a lot of people off guard.

up_all_night Agree with all of that. I do sometimes think Tim doesn't have thattt much to offer either and it's the storylines that draw people in. I think he knows this hence the whole 'I'm in love with Boogs' thing.

You said it all

Ben should've taken that money in my opinion. Some are saying he was feeding the sad story to Australia, he probably has but not to a large degree. He really did have a harder life than most of those people in there now. They're probably gonna invest that money, buy cars, start up their entertainment career but for him it would have meant getting him up on his feet. Simple as that. Even Tim felt that tonight. What a tragedy. I still can't bring myself to believe what was witnessed tonight where people kick someone who is already down

I have been watching Tim's vote steadily decline. A few weeks ago it was around 40%. Tonight it was around 17%. You can see the worry in Tim's face.

Don't forget people were trying to get Tully out that week.
