The Voice 2015 Australia

she is also a detective. on a boat. solving crimes with her 'seriously creeping speaking voice'. it is a show. on tv. or inside my head.

Maybe this thread can be the only one on this site that doesn't get derailed with talk of Ms Arena. Well unless she makes a cameo for some reason, which is a possibility I suppose.

Calling @MsTinaArena to join... :)
We have @MADONNA and @Lady Gaga here already.

Haha, it's only a matter of time. I vote for @Britney first.

I fear you, so I'm going to say ok.

You fear me? You must be the only one. Honestly reepy you can post whatever you like wherever you like (well provided it's not something intended to offend another member), don't let me boss you around!

Maybe we should all change our usernames to celebrities? You can be @Britney, I can be @Kylie, @reepbot can be @MsTinaArena, @Consuela can be @BEYONCE and @Jam could be @Sia.

Brilliant!! :)

Haha. Sorry for derailing this thread guys. I'll stop now. ;)

Haha yes brilliant idea. Although with your fickle ways you'll probably change your celebrity every week hehe.

Oh no problem with the derailment. So umm episode 2 tonight... I wonder what it will bring.

Actually this is on topic, I had such second hand embarrassment for that woman that was fan girling so hard for Jessy J and cried saying she's the reason she wakes up each day or something. Oh and she got free tickets to her show, but it ended up being cancelled anyway.

That singer actually had a much better voice than most of the ones that the coaches turned around for too.

Well then...haha. Who am I kidding? It's true, it's true! :drowning::drowning::drowning:

Hey @bleachy_dude where are you? Yet another ex-idol contestant trying again with a different talent show. I seem to recall a few last year across the voice and X factor.

Scott Newnham from 2009, I actually recognised him instantly which was kind of embarrassing. But it's because my housemate at the time had such a crush on him after singing that Chris Brown song so he was overexposed to me, I've seen the original clip more times than I care to quantify. I actually don't think he's particularly good but he is pretty hot in that topless-waiter-with-a-man-bun kind of way, so maybe he'll go far.

Jessie J is shitting me with her "you're not as good as me, but I'm great so I can help you" attitude.
She's just horrible!

I haven't watched them yet. Last year I only made it through until the first live show and gave up. I wish they would bring back Idol. X Factor is closer in format, the Voice is pretty much only about the judges and that gets old for me.

Haha Scott Newnham! This is the other thing, as the Voice doesn't do auditions, they approach people - all they approach are people who have tried and not made it in the past.

Sorry to be a Debbie downer. I will give it a go, let you know what I think when I get around to watching it on Jump In. How is Sonia going as a host? I never really warmed to Darren.

That's ok! I couldn't remember if you were into The Voice or not, I should have known that nothing compares to idol though! Certainly as far as creating successful artists it's true, always good to see ex-idols though right? It must be weird to have to go through 2 different talent competitions, especially to still not "make it". Actually wasn't Delta involved with the 2009 series as well? She may have interacted with Scott before in basically the same capacity.

Basing a format on people who have tried but failed to make it in the business seems to set them up for failure to be honest, probably why no one has gone onto any lasting success.

I can take or leave the voice normally, but channel 9 have actually done themselves a favour with their block saturation as I'm so relieved to not be seeing a renovation show on TV that I'm actually consciously tuning in.

So far Sonia is just sort of "there". Quite pointless I'd say, but maybe she'll have more of a role come the live shows.

Yeah I think that was the year Delta was a guest judge for some auditions. Can't remember where Scott auditioned.

I don't think the Voice really cares about making artists who are successful. As long as the show has high ratings and the judges get a boost in album/ ticket sales then they will continue to make the show. I feel like Idol really did care about making successful artists.

I'm totally over the block also, haven't watched the last 2 seasons. The last one I watched was the first half of glasshouse. Tbh I don't watch much on broadcast television anymore, I only really use Netflix and Hulu these days.

They should have just replaced Darren with Sonia IMO.

You're totally right about The Voice, the show doesn't seem to have the same genuine commitment to its contestants like Idol did. I don't like all the fanfare of the auditions either, it's all just one big production that's not necessarily for the benefit of the singers.

The coaches just want to win for their own glory I think. I liked the way idol didn't have the teams or division amongst the judges.

Darren is such a nothing host, I'd happily see him replaced by Sonia indefinitely.

Yeah, but don't get me wrong. The whole chair turn button pressing thing certainly interested me at the start. It was a fun gimmick, and I enjoyed the auditions of the first season immensely. It's just that after the dust settles and you realise that none have gone on to have any sort of substantial career (I think that even includes the U.S. Version and I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same with other international versions too) that the smoke and mirrors seem less 'sparkly' haha.

Haha - I'm such a grumpy old man these days.

None of the US Voice winners have had the sustained success that old Idol contestants still have.
Our version is even weaker, and with less chance of a breakout star.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the format (in terms of the chair turns). but it does rely too heavily on the egos of the judges (sorry, coaches), and often they steer their contestants into styles and genres they are uncomfortable with.
