The Tallulah Thread Part 2

Someone told me last night her daughter's name was Ah-lee-na (ie: that's how it was pronounced) and that she hated her name.

I asked how it was spelled. The lady spelled it out for me. I tried to trace it on the desk with my finger as she was spelling it. She sees me doing this and goes "Oh, it's Alien with an A on the end. Aliena".

No wonder she hates it then, lol.

And yes, Ivy is pretty cute. It'll probably be the next Lily now.

oh no, did she realise that when she named her daughter that?

I know im so sad :( i love lily too but i just cant name someone a hugely popular name. i dont wanna be like luna starchild, but it would kill me for them to be one of 5 "mia's" in the class arrrgh.

I also love Emily but its so popular aswell i couldnt.

maybe ill just wait and have kids when im 45 and then they wont be popular anymore hahaha.

^^ Just look up the top 20 names when you are pregnant and avoid them all like the plague

Yeah but you do that, and three years later it enters the top ten/twenty anyway.

I reckon, just go with what you love. You can't control what other people name their babies, and if Lily/Mia/Ava/Joshua/Cooper/Other common name etc is what you love, then go with that. If they have to be known and Mia T. and Joshua Z. their whole school life, so what? It won't scar them for life. It's just a name.

I find the whole "MY BABY'S NAME MUST BE YOONEEK!!!" trend pretty disturbing. I mean, there are seven billion people on earth. Chances are, someone's already been there, done that with the name you are considering. Even with the kreaytiv mispelling you're considering too*.

* Not you, Melly. A general you. Aimed at people who call their kids Eievah, Mackzz, Jakzssyn and Tylargh, cos Eva, Max, Jackson and Tyler were just waaaaaaaaay too common.

One that gets me is Jaxon/Jaxson/Jaxen.
I heard one person justify it cos she didn't want him getting called Jack.
If you don't want him called Jack, don't name him what is essentially just an extension of Jack.
And people change the spelling of Thomas to call him Tom. And Michael to call him Mick or Mike, so why would putting an x in Jaxon stop people calling him Jack?

All of my kids have had their names in the top 20 since they were born but none were in the top 20 the year or few years before they were born. They all have other kids in their school with the same name but none in the same year as them, all are a couple of years younger. My oldest was the only kid in his school of 500 kids with his name unti he was in year 4 when four kids started in reception in the same year with the same name. So Emcee is right, it doesn't seem matter what name you choose, sooner or later every name will find its way to the list. Normal names, that is. Either that or I am a major trendsetter..lol

I have a distant relative (a girl), called Jax. I'm hoping it's short for something normal like Jacqueline, but probably not, I've only ever seen it written JAX.

My first and middle names were both very rare when I was born, but since the 90's there have been a lot of both.

I was a Mel "X." and i hated it so tremendously. i cannot even describe how much i hated it. perhaps it was worse for me because the other Mel was the popular Mel, therefore making me the fatter/nerdier/lamer Mel. i truely believe if i was just not a Mel and something else school would have been better. but school sucks anyway hahaha.

gosh its hard naming a kid isnt it. different but not too unique, common to say and spell but matches surname and a middle name that is okay and doesnt clash with any siblings or anyone else in the family, something that will age well...

If you were called Sarah or Josie or Therese or Emily, you'd still be the same, EB.

As someone with an unusual name it is a PITA when you're a kid! I always felt left out when other kids had 'named' things as there was never a hope in hell that they would have mine! My Husband was in a similar position, though his name is a bit more popular in his own country than here.

My normal name is non commonly used, well it was in the 40's but not in the 60's when I was born. When I was 17 years old I was holidaying with the family in the Channel Islands, my brother spotted a key ring with my name on it and bought it for me. :)

I don't know what my parents were thinking, they are Elizabeth (mum) William (dad) Andrew (brother) and then there is me with my Gaelic name that half the world has never heard of.

Maybe they thought you were special and wanted a special name for their special baby....And I mean special as in "cute"

We named one of our triplets Caelan (kay-lin) which I'm sure is Gaelic, still love that name. I like your name too. :)

Hey Eliza they are using your name as not identifiable by voice recognition on the AAMI ad :) saw it and thought of you lol.

I hated being one of at least 2 every year. And getting my names spelling wrong all the time because the better known/popular kids had 'ie' instead of 'y' like me.

You know my kids have weird names. But they do need to be 'real' names, and the spelling has to be how the name is supposed to be. Which is why I don't have Akwilla, Zanthee and Tobeyeaaah ;)

Its hard picking names for your children. I have a popular one - Chloe, and a not so popular one - Shelby. We chose them by printing off a list of top 100 names for the previous year, and then which ones my fella and I both liked. I didn't really care about how many other people would be out there with the same name - they woudl never be as good as my kid regardless LOL!!!

My SIL calls Chloe - Chlo for short - it pisses me off no end. How Fricken hard is is to say that one extra letter? Not every one needs to have their name shortened. So i call her son whose name is Beau - Bozo because i know she doesn't like it.

I saw a friend of a friend talking on fb about her two sons. Andrew who sounded about 4. And a new baby boy.

Kuparr

Took me quite some time to realise that it's probably Cooper.

Sadly, I have also previously seen Khoopah.
