...the many things that you remember as a kid or teenager...

i remember the 3 commercial TV networks and "our ABC" ( Auntie )

Monday and Wednesday nights = Cop Shop
Tuesday and Thursday nights = Prisoner

And 9:30pm was THE DON LANE SHOW...where Bert Newton and Don Lane were earning 45,000 to 50,000 a week near the end of the show's run ( 1975 - 82 )

Sunday Night was 60 Minutes followed by a new release SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

**sighs**

How times have changed
Simpler times indeed. Don't forget Countdown on Sunday night, Sounds Unlimited with Donnie Sutherland on 7 on Saturday morning and of course Daryl and Ossie on 9, also on Saturday morning. The Box and Number 96 to titilate us during the week. Oh, and when tv went to colour!! Gasp!!!!

i wasn't allowed to watch the Box or Number 96 as i was 4 or 5, yet i do remember The Benny Hill Show and The Black and White Minstrels

Later years saw The Dave Allen Show and of course Only Fools and Horses.

I remember Doctor Who was on after Lost in Space and coming home from school to watch Get Smart and the Brady Bunch

Everything old is new again.

Loved Dave Allen back in the 70s. May your God go with you.

It was even worse in Broken hill - we had the ABC and one other channel, a watered down version of 7, but ours ended at about 11 every night, and most of the time you'd get religious broadcasting or a sodding great clock counting down til the next exciting hour. So ABC it was - lots of great stuff like Doctor Who, Countdown, Blake's 7, The Goodies, Kenny Everett Show ("too rude" according to my dad but I sneaked a peek anyway)... and lesser stuff like The Ghost & Mrs Muir, The Beachcombers and DangerMouse. Channel 7 had Prisoner, Dallas and Dynasty.

Regional programming has been ghastly over the years. My parents lived in the ACT for 18 years and compared to Melbourne it was woeful. The test pattern on the ABC and Rosemary Margan doing her weather maps backwards on the glass in Melbourne. That impressed me no end.

Chiko Rolls.

Still yummy and you can still buy them. I remember them as a kid many, many moons ago.

..I can't stand Chiko Rolls... I'm a Spring Rolls fan myself... Battered Savs were 50-50 with me...I'd prefer half a dozen potato scallops with salt on them to be honest lol!...

...aaaaaaaaaaah!... The Don Lane Show... I used to love that show... I remember when he had that sceptic James Randi on his show who was saying that Doris Stokes that he had on his show was pure bullshit and couldn't speak to people's dead relatives at all and Don Lane... (obviously a fan of Doris Stokes)... told him to "piss off out of this show!"... and them stormed off because he was so furious of him lol!... here is the interview below...

...and I also used to watch 'The Ernie Sigley Show' with Denise Drysdale as his side-kick 'ding dong'... this is them both in full swing...

...hahaha!... great days indeed lol!... such memories!... cheers.

I've seen that lots of times on clip shows. The odd thing is, we're supposed to side with Don Lane defending the sweet old lady, but it was always clear to me that Don Lane was not only overly dramatic and rude, but also WRONG. Those TV psychics do just make shit up, and exploit grieving or gullible people.

...Hey Hey it's Saturday with 'Red Faces' was the highlight of the week for me... I so used to love that show... I hated Channel 9 from that day onwards when they cancelled the show... that hatred still stands today with Channel 9 for me... and Countdown... what an amazing show that was eh?... even Prince Charles wanted to be on it lol!... I never really liked Donnie Sutherland at all though...

...I actually met Abigail the so called sultry 'sex siren' on Number 96... I had to escort her from a loading dock at a store that I worked at through the warehouse and down a lift to the show floor 3 floors down... she was so short... had 25,00 layers of make-up on and looked pretty much haggard and not so pretty to be honest... she was sooooooo 'up herself'.... she looked at all of us around with sheer utter contempt and wouldn't even acknowledge you if you dared to speak to her... not a nice person at all I'm afraid... so much for her being... 'sexy'... :yuck:...

...hahaha!... The Benny Hill Show... such an all-time classic... if that was remade today with all of that 'innuendo' type of humour it would bomb out so bad now with all of this 'political correctness' now wouldn't it?... 'Lost in Space' was so 'campy' it was ridiculous but you had to watch it each week didn't you?... 'Dr Smith' was the most hated man in the world of TV at one stage because of the way he was... how the Robinson's just didn't shove him out of an airlock was always a mystery to me lol!... my 2 favourite SciFy shows were 'Time Tunnel' and 'The Land of the Giants' at the time...

Loved Dave Allen back in the 70s. May your God go with you.

...hahaha!... Dave Allen was a classic comedian... nearly all of his jokes were told in a 'story-like manner'... his short comedy sketches were always so funny... he was always at his best when he played 'Sherlock Holmes'... the second joke in this sketch below has stayed with me all my life as my dad used to tell this joke all the time once he heard it on the show lol!... Dave Allen was a genius when it came to comedy... he really was... cheers.

Same here in Tassie. We got ABC and one other channel that ended each night. The ‘other’ channel was different depending on where you lived, so visiting rellies who had different programs was the bee’s knees lol. We had ‘Tas TV’, which was watered-down channel 9.

I remember watching cartoons before school on ABC – Astro Boy, Belle and Sebastian and Kimba the White Lion were a few faves. :)

One thing I did like about regional TV is we got quite a mixture of music shows. ABC had Countdown, Rock Arena and later Rage, while the other channel had imports from SA like Sounds, Trax and Music Express, plus some from other regions.

...oh you poor thing Meglos... that would've been torture being confined to just those channels only... all of those highlighted shows I used to watch religiously... the best 'Goodies' episode to me was the 'Rolf Harris' episode... (until what came out about him just a few years ago of course)... (way to go to spoil something for me Rolf you mongrel!)... but it was so funny at the time... apparently he got really shitty with them for doing that episode at the time lol!... (I noticed Doctor Who was first on that list lol!:biggrin:)... well done Meglos lol!... cheers.

Rolf Harris is ruined forever... but the Goodies comedy of "Tie me kangaroo down... TENNIS?" will always be a classic. And the plastic Rolf Harrises in breakfast cereal, and "The Queen" saying "a plague of Rowlf Harrises" :D

...exactly Meglos!... as much as I liked Don Lane I was so disappointed when he believed that Doris Stokes was the real thing... his subsequent tanty and walk-off seemed to me that he had come to realise that perhaps James Randi was making sense and that because Don had her on the show a couple of times that he had realised that he had been fooled on National TV and saw no way out but to debunk James Randi instead so as to 'save face' instead of admitting that he had been duped so well by Doris Stokes... but still... it was all fun viewing at the time wasn't it?... this clip below by Rebecca Front pretty much sums up Doris Stokes to me... making fun of the fraud that she was... cheers.

From wikipedia :
Stokes was accused of using various forms of deception to achieve the effect of communicating with the dead. These included cold reading, eavesdropping, and planting accomplices in the audience

...haha!... you're right of course... it still doesn't make the comedy any less than it was does it?... 'a plague of Rowlf Harrises'... lol!... funny as... cheers.

OMG you guys thank you so much for posting all those pictures. Grew up watching The Time Tunnel and Land Of The Giants. Haha Valerie taped to a desk and being poked by a giant pencil. haha.. That scene would be not PC today... The Time Tunnel was fun.

Ever week we watched the Benny Hill Show and laughed, and laughed, and laughed. It was so much fun.

What about The Kenny Everett Video Show which used to be on the ABC?

...hahaha!... me too Not a fan of Clara Oswald... if you want to see the first ever episode of 'Land of the Giants'... you can see it below...

...if you click the YouTube link you can also see episodes #2/#3 and #4 too... there's even the pilot episode for the show that was never aired... you can notice how Irwin Allen (the producer and the director etc) has subtly 'fine-tuned' the story and changed certain scenes to polish it up a bit... it's still a great episode to watch... the only disturbing part of both the shows is that the Scientist looks uncannily like Rolf Harris!... urgh!... but still... such great memories in watching it lol!...

...I also used to love 'Voyage to the bottom of the Sea' too...that was sort of 'Captain Nemo' meets 'Star Trek' underwater to me back then lol!...

voyage-to-the-bottom-of-the-sea-comp.jpg

...here is the first episode below of that series too just as an 'added extra bonus' to refresh your mind lol!... there were so many great shows back then... cheers.

Voyage was one of those shows I never saw as a kid, and when I did get exposed to it I really didn't like it.

I did like the flying sub though, that was cool.

There was a movie based on the TV show too.[DOUBLEPOST=1452245757][/DOUBLEPOST]Haha The Goodies.

Remember the Olympics episode, and Kitten Kong?
