...the many things that you remember as a kid or teenager...

...haha!...the dog next door could hear 'Greensleeves' playing a few streets away before we ever did... every time that he started howling we knew that he was on his way... he didn't even howl at Police/Fire Brigade or Ambulance sirens... just the ice cream truck lol!... we always got to the top of the street to get them first whenever he howled... you've just gotta love a dog that gave you that edge haven't you?... cheers.
This post has me lol envisioning this said dog howling

I loved the bottles of milk being delivered to the house as a kid and licking the cream off the metallic lid.

...my mum didn't... a magpie or whatever used to fly down and peck at the shiny lid and peck holes in it... to this day I have no idea whether it was just because it was shiny and sparkly or whether it was after the milk itself?... do birds like milk?... cheers.

I remember stuttering in the back of the car when I was like 5 or so. That was my first memory.

I remember in primary school playing lawn bowls.

I remember winning some sort of maths competition in Primary School.

I remember when my sister gave me a haircut one Saturday afternoon. I think i said yes because it was easier than saying no. Not surprisingly it was awful (a reverse mohawk) so soon after I had all my hair shaved off.

I remember seeing one of our cats Daisy, named after one of the characters in the show Keeping Up Appearances, dead with ants crawling all over her.

I remember putting both legs behind my head at school one day and people seemed to be so impressed by it.

...I meant to respond to your posts reepbot and missed it... anyhow... I highlighted these things from your 2 posts... did you grow out of the stuttering eventually reepbot?... did you play lawn bowls on a green carpet indoors or actually on a real lawn?... I didn't know that schools let the kids play lawn bowls as a sport... (they say that you learn something new every day and I just have)... I would love to have seen that haircut... I bet you didn't go out much when that happened lol!...

...one of our kids came in to the loungeroom once from the back yard and said... "Czar has got ants crawling out of his eyes"... I was devastated... he was my Borzoi dog... he just died of old age during the night... he was a beautiful dog...

...I used to be able to put my legs behind my head when I was a kid too lol!... my brother always called me a freak... I couldn't do it now because I would be in traction for quite a number of years methinks lol!... cheers.

I sometimes still stutter if I am really nervous.

It was indoor bowls. It was inside. It wasn't for sport or anything like that. Just something to do before class started.

...oh okay my friend... thanks for the replies... cheers.

I remember milk at school :vomit: - and that was in NZ - not here in Australia where it would be in much hotter sun

I remember 6 winegums for 1c ... and if mum sent me up the road for a loaf of bread it was 14c and I could have the 1c change for lollies ... winegums were the best value for my 1c!
iceblocks (aka icy poles here) were 4c

a pint of milk was 4c and we'd put 4 empties out in a wire crate/holder thing with the 16c in one of the bottles ... the milkman would come along and leave our milk at the letterbox for us ... this was either early evening in or early morning ... when I was in high school some of the cute guys helped with the milk run ... always seemed to know what time the milk delivery could be expected ;)

I remember celebrating the first day of holidays by skipping along the retaining wall, missing my step (did I mention I'm a bit of a clutz?), hitting the wall with my elbow on my way down ... running into the garage so I could say SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!! without my mum growling at me for swearing (still hadn't heard the F-word otherwise you can be sure that would have been the word of choice!!! lol) ... trying to pretend it was ok because we were going away the next day ... but it was broken and I was off to hospital with dad ...

...haha!... I loved that part when you said... "still hadn't heard the F-word"... crimmy lol!... ah!... the days of innocence eh?... falling off that wall and breaking your arm is so ... OUCH!... to me... you poor young sweet innocent thing at the time... cheers.

"at the time" - but MrSticky - crimmy is always sweet and innocent - you know that!!!

yes I probably heard it on the first day of Intermediate School (Form 1 & 2 = Year 7 & 8 equivalent I'm guessing) ... whereas my son heard it at his first day of preschool thanks to one of his playmates having a much older step-sibling!

...hahaha!... I so remember those Coca-Cola yo-yo's hooleydooley!... they were such a trade-able item at our School at the time... some kids (I wasn't one of them ) broke into the ACI factory in our suburb and stole about 6 boxes of yo-yo's that held about 100 yo-yo's and were selling them on the sly to all of us at School lol!... they made a fortune!... haha!... a Black Market for yo-yo's... who woulda thunk it?... lol!...

...contrary to popular belief... 'Perkins Paste' tasted terrible!... there were 4 lollies that I couldn't stand... 'Fags/Milk Bottles/Banana's and Teeth'... I just couldn't eat them lol!... that old currency was so colourful wasn't it?... what we have now is so bland and boring as far as I'm concerned... wow!... what a trip down memory lane... thanks for that Hooleydooley... cheers.

...hahaha!... why of course you are :whistling:... silly me... sorry crimmy... I have no idea where my mind was when I wrote that lol! :smug::smuggrin:... cheers.

I think Perkin's paste actually was glue, it might as well have been, urghhh.
I LOVE the old fashioned milk bottle lollies. A few years ago Allen's briefly did a classic range that included coloured milk bottles, I wish they'd bring them back.
Also, the modern banana lollies don't have the SNAP of the old ones, they're soft and fudgy, no good at all.

...Perkins Paste was for gluing paper and stuff together but some kids used to eat it at my School... not like a snack or anything but when they were in class some would be tasting it while using it... I tried a little just out of curiosity but nearly spewed from it... god knows what it was doing to their stomachs... a strange thing to do in my books... obviously our tastes in lollies are total opposites Meglos lol!... cheers.

I've never really met a lolly I didn't like (apart from the aforementioned soft or stale modern ones). And licorice.
What were your favourite lollies?

...I remember when I was really young and my dad and I were watching an old black and white war movie on TV and I turned to my dad and said something like... "when you were in the War didn't you have colour then?... or something similar... and he laughed his head off... I thought that colour was something only just recent... as I said... I was really young lol!...

...I remember when my brother and I were watching... 'The Sands of Iwo Jima' with mum and dad and we both cried our eyes out for ages because John Wayne died in it... John Wayne!... he was like Superman to us... he couldn't possibly die!... we cried and cried and cried!...

...I remember when when I was 11 years old and dad took my brother and I to see the movie... "Zulu"... with Stanley Baker and Michael Caine in it... it was one of the greatest movies that I had and have ever seen... it's in my top 5 movies of all time... I am still mesmerised by it to this day... it's a great movie memory also because my dad's gone now and I always remember that time every time that I watch it... (my brother and I both went "cor blimey!" when we saw the female Zulu warriors topless and dancing and there boobs bouncing up and down)... it was the first time that we had seen real boobies lol!... (dad told us not to tell mum that we had seen them lol!... when mum finally saw the movie about 20 years later she told him off!)... lol!...

...I remember seeing the Rod Taylor movie... 'The Time Machine' when I was about 7 or 8 and falling instantly in love with Yvette Mimieaux as 'Weena' in the movie... I also remember asking dad if he could build me a Time Machine and him telling me... "I'll see what I can do Peter"... lol!... (dad and I talked about that a lot of times lol!)... oh!... by the way... he never did!... lol!... cheers.

Oh wow seeing that Coca-Cola yoyo and the Perkins Paste has brought back so many great memories of public school.

The Fanta yoyo was the one everyone in my school were vying for. Pmsl, a friend offered me a bag full of "Fags" lollies a couple of weeks ago but the name has been changed to "Fads" now. I remember loving Golliwog biscuits as a kid but now they're called "Scallywags"

...Cobbers... Cobbers and more Cobbers... I couldn't get enough of them lol!... also Jaffa's... Sherbies... Cobbers... Injun's... Snakes... Cola Bottles... Cobbers... Golden Roughs... Curly Wurly's... Cobbers... Wine Gums... Choo-Choo Bars and Minties from memory to name a few... almost all lollies except the one's mentioned above lol!... cheers.

Are you sure you don't just like Cobbers? Hahahaha:laugh:.

I remember Space Bars at school (they're actually revolting from memory).

Loved freckles, those ugly teeth lollies, peppermint leaves, cobbers (Mr S ;)) caramel buttons, musk sticks, those tiny little hard boiled lollies in the glass jar from Darrel Lea. Oh loads more but I would be here all day listing them.

never met a lolly I didn't like = quote of the day!! I'm so right there with you ... although i love licorice

Darrell Lea used to make the most wonderful HUGE licorice allsorts .... but now they've been revived their licorice allsorts are nothing like what they used to make ... :(

had a funny experience when the boys were younger on a train ... not sure where we were off to but train wasn't over crowded but still quite a few in the carriage ... the boys were moving between husband and I ... he was sitting a few seats ahead from me ... I had licorice and offered them some and said "don't take too much" as they grabbed some and ran off to be near dad .... all of a sudden anyone who WAS talking or making ANY noise at all went silent ... just in time for our youngest to pipe up "Noooooo cos if ya eat too much it makes ya do black pooosies" .... and since everyone else had so nicely timed their silence this boomed out for everyone to hear

Both the boys had already moved to be with Dad who then went bright red - it crept up from his neck to his forehead like a rising tide of red ... and is desperately trying to look like he doesn't know these kids (who of course weren't going to have any of that and claimed him!) ... whilst I'm laughing so much I had tears ...

even better was the time I'd just been bathing the boys and since eldest was just about off to school and all the books recommended telling children the proper anatomical names I figured we'd have THAT discussion ... I think it came from being told "Poor mummy ... she doesn't have a peeenie - she's only got a fluff!" (well hey! at least I can aim guys!!!) ... so I took on THE TALK ...

all seemed to have gone very well ... got them out of the bath, dried them off and into their summer pjs ... they hightailed it out of the house like rockets ... and ran up the front path to where dad was doing some weeding on front lawn and yelled out with glee "VAGINA! VAGINA!"
Husband's head whips up ... red tide aka mortal blush starts neck up ... horrified look of "WTF!?!" is aimed at me as I race up the path, grab them both and drag them back into the house hoping to god that none of our neighbours (mostly elderly) had heard it ... very very quiet neighbourhood .... sometimes you just wish you lived in a noisier one!!! :woot:

and that was the LAST time I listened to any advice from those bloody childrearing books!!! ;)
