I would just like to say to the people who voted no, and to the people who are comfortable with one kind of homosexual relationship but not the other, go Fujitsu yourself.

The problem with adding two gay housemates is that there are no guarantees that they will even get along and if any form of romance will blossom. Adding more than two gay people may just open them up to claims that they are not "representing the true make up of society".

I'd love to see a gay couple, but trying to achieve it would be pretty hard to achieve. There would still be people uncomfortable with the idea and any claims of more gay people in lieu of more cultural diversity could present a problem.

What I reckon would be best if they casted a gay COUPLE, one who was openly gay and the other one who was challenged to show that they had no idea who their partner was. Having them running around the case, sneaky kisses and stuff would be pretty hilarious for them to just full on make out in front of the housemates when the game is up.

Would also appreciate some less token/flamboyant gays.

People are people and HM's are HM's, who gives a toss which side they bat for. Just get in there and BE INTERESTING ffs.

As a Kiwi, OP, I do have to say, just because we passed gay marriage into legislation, I don't necessarily think as a whole the NZ public is more "tolerant". It's a nice thought, but I lived in NZ until 3 years ago before moving to Sydney, and see no difference amongst public opinion from my Australian friends - all of whom unanimously support gay marriage. It's just our government is more accepting than Tony "God Loving" Abbott. Otherwise, yep, Australian people are generally just as accepting.

I partly agree with what you are saying, and I wasn't actually directly implying NZ was more tolerant but can see how it was read that way - sorry!

In saying that, you can't underestimate what a big deal passing gay marriage was. Public opinion matters - especially one year before election.

All good! Xx
