Good to see ABC making a local version of House of Games. Surprised it's taken so long for the format to be picked up.

So I've been watching Stargate for the first time ever, except I watched the shows in reverse order: first SG Universe, then SG Atlantis, and now the original SG-1. I'm at the end of S7 and they've just introduced Dr Elizabeth Weir and it's not even her. 🤔 🤣

The Studio on Apple TV+ is really good. It wouldn't be for everyone but I loved it. The first two episodes up are quite different, so I'm curious to see how the series pans out. If it'll be more stand alone concepts around the idea, versus serialised.

I was quite into it before the larger premise dropped. Now I'm wondering how I feel about it.

I think it's worth sticking with because that is a journey it itself and the episode that explains what happened was fantastic.

Very weird way to watch it. It's something I'd like to revisit, but them and Star Trek The Next Generation just seem so monumental to start a rewatch on.

The Battlestar Galactica blu-rays have arrived. That'll be my next rewatch.

It wasn't my intention to watch SG-1 at all. I'd seen a post on Reddit where someone said that of the SG franchise, SGU was watchable for a n00b, so I started with that. Having not seen the original movie, I had tried watching the first ep of SG-1 and it seemed so dated, hokey and I didn't care for the whole military theme (being a Trek fan where that's not a thing, and I abhor gung-ho US macho military BS), not to mention the humour being so corny. Although I do like some of the references to Star Trek and other shows/films thrown in there by the writers, that is fun. Like the MacGuyver reference in the very first ep. I was disappointed that SGU had been cancelled though, I really enjoyed that.

It's all pretty funny really because a long time ago I said somewhere online it'd be hilarious if religion was really based on aliens visiting Earth, and someone replied saying that was literally the plot of SG. In hindsight, yes, I should have watched the movie and started at the beginning, but I was put off by the ancient Egyptian costumes etc. It flew in the face of my Sci Fi expectations.

And also maybe all the humans developed on all those worlds over millennia, but funny how they all ended up speaking American English.

As for TNG it's worse than SG-1 for the first couple of seasons. Even as a huge Trek fan I have no desire to start again from scratch on that, it's so painful, but definitely better from S3 onwards. Voyager, OTOH, is much more watchable, so I'd recommend that instead.

I've always thought if I went back and rewatched any of these, I'd get one of those lists online that tell you which episodes to watch and which to skip.

When they did the Stargate pilot they didn't quite know what tone the show would be. Hence why there was full frontal nudity at the insistance of the network. At some point they did a new version with out that, different editing and some changes. Done to be more consistent with the show.

I really liked the movie and I remember someone at school saying there's a Stargate TV show and it has nudity based on the TV listing. So I was right there watching from day one.

As someone that was there the whole time watching. SGU lost a lot of the viewers who just wanted more SG1 or Atlantis. They aired the first 10 episodes and it wasn't that interesting after the first few and they lost a lot of viewers. Many didn't come back when they aired the next 10 episodes of s1 a few months later. Even though the show got much better. It never recovered the audience despite being good and constantly getting better. Then MGM's financial problems tanked the prospect of a third season. As well as the direct to DVD Atlantis movie to wrap that up.

They were planning a 6th season of Atlantis but Sci-Fi channel wanted something closer to Battlestar Galactica. SGU despite the apparent bump in production quality was cheaper to make.

Currently, there's a waiting game to see what MGM does with Stargate now that Amazon owns it. One of the creators of the Stargate TV shows pitched an video for a follow up series in the same continuity with a mix of old and new characters but they rejected it.

This all fits into the category of stuff my girlfriend goes, "you remember that, but not what I told you last week."

I use Kodi to watch all my content, and have an add-on that shows IMDB ratings out of 10 for each episode. I am watching every single episode, but the ones that rate <7 are a real chore, especially when you get two in a row. So there have been some that were so bad I skipped ahead through. Others were basically clip shows, maybe there were writers' strikes at times? But it's par for the course when they were making 22-episode seasons. You're just going to get some stinkers, and SG-1 sure has more than a few.

SGU really did step up the quality. I liked that it was dark and dramatic. I suppose a lot of the old viewers hated the serious tone. What a shame it got cancelled after that cliffhanger. Not even a movie length show to wrap it up. Damn.

So now I'm at S9 of SG-1 and it's immediately obvious the whole series was supposed to end at the conclusion of S8.

And casting Claudia Black and Ben Browder together was an interesting choice, given their Farscape history together. Now I read Browder was initially going to be cast as John Sheppard on SG Atlantis. I'm so glad he wasn't available for that. His acting really isn't great, especially when he shouts his lines. Which is a lot of the time.

So while considering this I learned that the (US) air dates for Farscape were way out of production order. I assume Channel Nine played them in the correct order back in the day? So I have just renumbered my files and switched the order to 'DVD Order' in Kodi so I can see them in the intended order next time I give them a rewatch. It was all about pulling some stronger episodes forward to lock in viewers at the time, but it did apparently cause a few minor continuity glitches.

It was a bit of a reboot for the last couple of seasons but I ended up enjoying the change. The Ori were pretty good villains. And Morena Baccarin is always a nice addition.

I started my Battlestar Galactica rewatch. So good so far.

I can't remember if I mentioned it and I'm too lazy to click back a page, but Daredevil: Reborn has been very good.

It was originally intended to be a new spin-off but they ended up tacking it on to the main series. Richard Dean Anderson had been withdrawing since the end of S7 and wanted out. And Carter's actor was pregnant so she was MIA a lot. Ends up being quite disjointed with the defeat of the Goa'uld in S8 it should have just been wrapped up.

The Last of Us returns for S2 on Monday! Only seven episodes, issued weekly, but the producers say they wanted to make each one like a movie.

Really didn't rate the first series - just found it so derivative so quickly bailed on it. Every episode being like a movie isn't a good thing either - that's one of the reasons I ultimately bailed on Stranger Things.

I'm really enjoying it. It's a bit like The Walking Dead except the "zombies" are insane methed up psychos.

I didn't really care for the switch up at SG-1 with the naff Ori and their magic powers, but the story became a lot more compelling in the latter part of S9 and I'm now 1/3 into S10 and I'm enjoying it a lot more.

I should probably rewatch Atlantis again when I'm done for the sale of (relative) continuity but tempted to watch Universe yet again first.

The Walking Dead was always a show to binge. I'd just wait until the current airing block was over and binge it over a few nights. I had a lot less problems with it than others. I dropped off somewhere early in the COVID era shot seasons but always meant to return and now it's a bunch of shows.

The Last of Us season 1 was okay, it was something to watch but I always knew what happened in the second game and how it all went to shit.
