Take care, kxk; be gentle with yourself. Your mother sounds wonderful and you must miss her. Opening wounds is always painful; I'm sorry.

Wow
You really do have a gift.
Use it wisely (ie: either start writing for Hallmark Cards or become a professional funeral wailer.

Sorry for your loss too Jam, losing your Mum is the biggest kick in the guts - or as my GP described it, it's like someone has pulled the rug out from under you.
Glad you got time.
And those of us who don't get that - well we envy you, but I am also grateful my mother died quickly & peacefully at home.
That stamp duty is outrageous Eliza. Cripes not exactly encouraging home buyers are they.
I thought you were too busy toying with Derspatz to notice my apology for upsetting kxk.
How on earth did you interrupt kxk choosing to overshare in a reality program thread about renovating to be about you upsetting her?
I mean seriously?
As I said before, you have a gift. You seem to love drama and misery and it would appear that in turn drama and misery loves you right back.
If losing your Mum or Dad as a fully grown adult turns out to be the "biggest kick in the guts" you ever experience in this life, then that is one fortunate life lived.
Having the luxury of having loving parents well into your adult years is an honour to be celebrated, to cheapen that memory by oversharing in a renovation thread for the sole reason to mass some quick forum pity is tacky to say the least.

I am not sure if you are just trying to be controversial, or if the subject is a sore point but you have no idea why kxk shared the snippet she did.
I had a great childhood and great parents but I was still absolutely devastated when my dad died 20 years ago. (A bit more over sharing for you to critique)
Anyway, back to the block, I want to know is there heaps of fabulous quirky furniture shops in Melbourne, every episode they seem to be going to a different shop full of a mixture of contempoarary and retro furniture and ornaments.

I think my comment was more in reaction to kxk judging and critiquing whether the fact Bec deciding to remain a contestant on The Block was appropriate and then measuring her own grief against the grief Bec is suffering, and to be frank as I always am, if fucked me off.
IE:-
I find Bec odd as, I have lost my mother, and there is no way I could be on a TV show during and just after her death...
Yeah, I'm not judging her, odd is all I said.
I just find it odd to be able to cope with being on TV, that's a far different prospect from keeping busy or working.
And she's lucky not to be needed - I had people relying on me and leaning on me at that time.
Unfortunately for us, our mother died suddenly, our father could barely speak he was so grief stricken.
And it was horrendous, our family was scattered everywhere.
One sister in England had a 6 month old baby and they refused to let her leave the country, even with her husband there signing papers and confirming it's OK.
In the end we had to resort to help from our local member, Simon Crean, he was fantastic.
And, hell, visiting that funeral home over and over and over - with different sisters as they came home..........
But I take your point on board, while some can grieve while remaining on a reality TV program after the death of a parent and others choose to share or relive it in a forum, there is no right or wrong way to grieve the death of a parent. To attack or question a person who is grieving a loved one is cruel, whether that be a contestant on a reno show or a faceless forum member, grief is grief and there is no right or wrong way to go through the process. It is a horrific time to live through and we should offer each other kindness not snide remarks.

OMG! I nearly wet myself laughing - must be that pesky incontinence again.

What's so funny?
It was nasty of me to be snide to kxk when she was sharing her experience and I was merely pointing that out.
As far as your incontinence goes, try hanging a car deodoriser around your neck, no one likes the smell of stale piss.

a. You're craven back pedalling is so funny.
b. Yes, it was nasty.
c. My piss is never stale, unlike your need to have the last, nasty word.
Once again, I expect you'll respond, but my appetite for petty cruelty is not as sharp as yours so don't expect me to take your bait again.

a) For fuck sake. It's your! YOUR! YOUR!!! And I may be a lot of things, but a back peddler when it comes to changing what I believe in, for the sole reason to please people, well that is just not me. I am open to constructive criticism and always take opportunities to learn and grow, this was one of those opportunities
b) Which is exactly why I apologised
c) How on earth did you manage to link your stale urine and me having the last nasty word? It doesn't even make sense! Oh and you may think your piss isn't stale, but newsflash Nelly, within 5 minutes of it leaking from your faulty urethral sphincter onto your extra-large cottontails, it stinks, that is not me being nasty, that is me pointing out a fact of nature.
Honestly, you are about as profound as a cold sore and your unnecessary dramatics were gag worthy. Best you don't take the bait, because it is just going to result in you embarrassing yourself even more.
Appetite for petty cruelty indeed.

Yes. Eliza Melbourne is definitely well supplied with home decore shops.
And yes lots of those quirky places - especially in Richmond, St Kilda, Brunswick and some where they are in Sth Melbourne.
And - they have fantastic markets at sth Melbourne and they have never shown or featured them have they?
You can get some great bargains at those markets - a fantastic Manchester shop there has beautiful sheets. The market has a lot of cool decorator stuff, plus places like Made in japan next door.
And do any of them use Graysonline?
Opshops here have some great stuff too, with some really big furniture welfare places.

Does anyone here know anything about the vintage furniture market?
After that vintage styling with the Featherstone chair reproduction - and how much it cost, mmm I need to get some old chairs I salvaged from Mum & Dad valued.
Fler dining chairs from the 50s/60s, the shape is a bit like a V on top and and upside down v below.
Good grief, there are some Fler chairs going for $800 each on ebay, I'm going to a valuer.

I have a couple of mid century teak Macrob pieces. A desk and a cabinet with glass front and various draws and sliding sections. I bought them both from Op shops years ago before the retro look was in. I am always on the lookout for a buffet of the same style with the wave handles. I've seen them but they are around $1000, waiting for a bargain.

Oh and today when I was out at my local shops I saw a pallet garden.

I was thinking with the loungerooms, that while they look nice, I would expect room for at least 4 adults to lounge around in comfort - especially in a $1-2Mill apartment. Nothing worse than when you go to someone's house and you're stuck on a pokey chair or somewhere uncomfy to watch a movie etc LOL
Here's the plans too. I looked them up cos I was wondering if there was another living area... It's not very big really? That living area looks about the same size as the dressing room LOL. I suppose the terrace is pretty big.

Great to see the actual plan, gives a much better perspective. The entire apartment is big compared to your average CBD apartment which would anywhere from about 70/80 sq metres to maybe 120/130 ish sq metres.
I agree re the living room, it's tiny, we thought that when we were watching the reveal. I am thinking they had no choice because of support walls because otherwise surely they would have moved the foyer wall over, making the foyer smaller but giving more living space and also perhaps the dining room wall over, so the dining room was smaller. Guessing all the walls left need to stay there.
My very average size apartment which is only a 2 bedroom has a deeper lounge. My lounge area is about 3.7 x 5 plus there is the small dining room and the kitchen. Love their terrace size, I think that is a big draw card. My balcony pales in comparison it is 6 metres long but only about 2 wide. (though my apartment would have cost a 1/4 of what these are worth lol)
