This is my kitty Charlie, we originally found her as a kitten in the street so we took her in. Her busted eye is due to my dumb cow of a neighbour who found her one day sleeping in her garage (while she was still a kitten) so she decided to smack her with a broom. It keeps getting worse and worse because she really enjoys attacking birds, and when they peck her right eye she fights back, but when they peck her left eye she doesn't see so she doesn't know
Poor Charlie. Really necessary to hit a sleeping animal? People who abuse animals are lowlife idiots. My old cat had an eye problem once and we put a patch on her for a few days. She didn't like it but the eye healed. She looked like a pirate lol.

This is my bird Tangee. The cat whose name is Storm (or ocelittle -looks like a small ocelote) is the neighbour' puddy, however he's decided to be a guard cat for Tang. He's there every day at 8am and pretty much sits guard until around 2pm, getting up occasionally to rub against the cage, puts his paw up to it and tangee gives him a little nuzzle with her beak. It's a very cute interaction. )

I love those unlikely alliances. Our old dog used to guard the rabbit when the kids were at school and only get up from his spot when they got home. Rain, hail or shine he would sit next to the hutch. We eventually put another kennel next to the rabbit hutch so he could at least get out of the rain.

That's so awful :( what kind of person does that?! She looks so adorable though, and so kind of you also to take her in!

She is still beautiful. What a tough kitty!

Storm looks like a tiger! Tang is lucky she has a guard cat! I love cross-species animal friendships!

when my baby had a similar eye injury, the vet sewed her eye shut for a few weeks and it healed up good as new.

How old was she? I have a feeling it's a bit too late now we've had her almost a year and this happened right at the start. We did try to take her to the vet but they recommended we go to a different one (which was all the way on the other side of Melbourne) and we just didn't have the money at the time. They wanted to perform surgery on her.

she was a couple years old.
she had scratched her eyeball and it wasnt seeming to get any better. the vet made the suggestion to sew her eye shut so it could heal itself without her constantly rubbing it and whatnot and she came out good as new. we didnt wait a year though, but its worth investigating anyway imo.
the vet i use is elaine ong, because being chinese she is familiar with shar pei (its a valid issue- trust me). she is located in box hill.

image.jpg Bumping this thread with a picture of Bo for @Noonah19 . He has a ball that he will chase from one end of the house to the other, then pummel it until he's exhausted. So funny! Are Russians generally an active breed? He climbs trees so quickly when I take him outside in the evening. I know you said they have a special bond with their owner and he sure has that, follows me like a pup and is in tune with my routines as well. Litter training going well, no accidents this week. Loving him (and old cat much more tolerant of him in her space).

Yep they are super active, my girl is 7 (she likes to say 5...) and she is still really kitten like. I've read that a lot people say they can be quite "dog" like too. Mine used to play fetch but then she stopped, I think she was like "if you're going to keep throwing that then YOU go get it." My old Russian was never an "cat", he still caught mice and stuff and would play and climb onto the roof and he was 15yrs.

Bo is gorgeous, that's funny you say about your routine, I never thought about it but my cat is in tune with ours too. Is he settling now and trusting you? He will be loyal to you forever because he knows what you have done for him. What a lucky boy!

That's great, forever a kitten, love it! Bo waits for me on the roof of the chicken house while I do my chores, walks behind the chooks to put them to bed and does not seem to see them as birds so doesn't chase them. As soon as he sees me bring the feed bucket for them, he races ahead and jumps on the roof while I feed and change water. Scared the life out of me the first time when he jumped down to 'help'. He really is a lot of fun, helps Mr W in the garden as well but I'm his fave  Thanks for letting me share, don't feel like crazy cat lady in here xx

Happy International Cat day to you fellow crazy cat lady! Wow that's awesome, I'm impressed he doesn't go after them! I would've had a heart attack too if my cat did that, haha. Cats are the best, actually all animals, but I do have a special place for cats. They're crazy, funny, naughty and so full of personality, no wonder the internet is full of cat videos.

I love to hear about your cats, please keep sharing it's really nice. I love this thread. I'll have to find a pic of my cat and I'll post it later. Hey does Bo have green eyes?
