That is must read material for the haters. I have lived through the suicide of two of my closest friends, one only earlier this year (my closest friend of 20 years) and while sometimes it is easy to try and direct anger and blame at other people it achieves nothing but further hurt. In the case of both my friends' suicides there were people in each instance who took out their grief on me - the first because I had argued with my friend that particular night, and the second because that friend had made me a beneficiary of his will. In the case of the first then yes that argument may have been the final straw, but let's face facts: people don't take their lives because they had an argument with a friend. This is why I feel for the 2DAYfm djs. There is just no way that Jacintha Saldanha didn't have more deeply rooted issues prior to taking this call. No-one could ever have known. If the media keep covering this then maybe the bigger picture will come out, but for the sake of her family I hope they will be afforded some privacy.

It was a simple practical joke and as tdw said, if it was answered by a different person probably would not have gone any further. It is a gross overreaction to these circumstances, there had to be more going on than just the call. The call might have been a contributing factor but I doubt it was the sole reason. I don't get it either. Interesting that the lowest of the scum that is the UK press are having a go at us.
This woman obviously had other things going on, maybe an investigation would uncover something else she was up to? Who knows.

thats the way I'm thinking. only time will tell.she didnt even give out the details the other one did.she only put the call through. so why?

ghods, judging by the "waa waa"ing going on here, one would think that the radio jockeys must be darlings of the "never apologise, our side is always correct no matter what, it's always somebody ELSES fault !" luciferic left !

As for the poor nurse, has anyone considered that perhaps her culture had a bit to do with the tragedy ?

That she, somebody who had dedicated her life to helping/serving others, felt they had somehow betrayed the Royal Family and her adopted country ?

That, perhaps thanks to her culture, she didn't have the necessary coping skills to properly manage that and, in her mind, it was necessary to figuratively "throw herself on the pyre" in order to somehow make amends ?

BTW, I have no doubt MANY of you would be baying for the blood of hospital staff if they divulged your health status or medical history to a bunch of strangers without your authorisation. You'd be baying for the blood of radio staff too.

So, hypocrites much ?

Just because you might not choose to see yourself as responsible if it were you who put the prank/crank call through doesn't mean that she should be similarly inclined.

Seems plain to me that, as first point of contact, she saw herself as being responsible for what happened afterwards.

Good on her for that, I say.

Yep, due to the shortage of Aussie nurses our service has sourced nurses from all over the world including many African and Asian countries and for some their culture is very, very different.

I have to say that I have never been a fan of prank calls. In SA at one stage SAFM's breakfast crew had "gotcha" calls and I just couldn't listen to them they made me feel so uncomfortable. These days I listen to the ABC in the am so have no idea if the "gotcha" calls still happen. Not baying for their blood but just don't find prank calls at all amusing.

Who the fuck even listens to radio anymore anyway?

Not me that's for sure - only radio I use is a bit to vacuum to, and usually a cd is better or the house dj:)

Only radio dj I have heard in probably 20 years is in taxis, why oh why do taxi drivers love that shitty talk back? I tolerate it sometimes to hear what the enemy are up to - no real change; otherwise turn that shit off I'm paying.

I have never understood the fun in making fun of others. Although I don't agree with what has transpired I don't think this couple of DJ's meant for their phone call to escalate as it did. Hopefully this will not all be in vain and people will change their attitudes to getting a laugh.
 
Radio is full of fuckwits and ex RTV dickheads, thus best avoided.

What strikes me - when did it become 'unforseeable' that someone could hold the highest of ethical standards and the highest of professional standards?
The cult of dumb, can't we stop it?????????
 
Oh Yeah for sure.... The nurses involved would of been reprimanded, for sure, no matter what the hospital spokesmen said, they would of thrown the book at them

I wonder how much training they give to those reality TV stars before putting them on radio? Wasn't Mel Greig off The Amazing Race?
 
They had a split second decision whether to go with it once they managed to convince the nurses they were the royals. Regrettable. But the station didn't have to air it.
