Thank you for the last sentence. I'm chortling. I also know why you said what you did, and 'knowing' you here, I realise that you wouldn't go there with anyone but Ed. :) I think being politically correct can be tiresome too, but I'm hyper-sensitive to things that I think might make someone feel bad about the things within themselves they can't change, like their gender, sexuality and race.
As for liking/disliking Ed. I didn't like his behaviour during Spin the Bottle. I often hated Tully's behaviour in the house but I still like her. As for Boogs peeing on the peas, I was shocked, but after Drew I liked her best. :)

I don't think it's any secret how I felt about Tim for the last 6 weeks or so of the show, in fact he still annoys me at times! I'm just not sure I'd relish seeing him attacked on social media in the same ferocious way as Ed is getting at the moment. In saying that, I'm also a Jade supporter so I sort of understand why he's copping the wrath of her fans... Though it still seems a bit overboard for mine.

prufrock and Gemini I agree this group of HM were pretty liberal (?) in their beliefs and how they see the world. I don't think any of the HMs were homophobes. I honestly think that channel Nine want HMs that are pretty likeable and what is not more likable to the young audience than people who believe all men/women are created equal. Which to me is how all the HMs acted during the season.
Well said Inigo! I'm not quite sure how 'liberal' Matt and Ed are, but I don't think they're homophobes. I remember Matt talking about his mate coming out to him in Afghanistan. He sounded genuinely supportive.

I actually hadn't remembered that with Matt (thanks for reminding me!), but still in general I don't think many of the other HMs treated Ben any differently just because he was gay. Matt was also very close with Tully for a long time so I don't think for a second he's in anyway homophobic. I think in general they were a batch of really good eggs this year. They all have their downfalls and moments (I couldn't stand Heidi nor Jazz personally) but I think in general they're a good bunch (and I was saying that even when 10 of them took $500 that was intended for charity lol).

It's also important to note that during the forums member pics thread when Derspatz or whatever his name made a gutless non direct insult towards Midikiki, every other member rushed to back her up as they were disgusted by his comment.

The world is changing it's views for the better IMO and as I said before if someone chooses to focus on the negatives then they are missing out on all the good things.

I'm not a Tim or Jade fan, but an obvious Drully one, so I concur. I think the level and type of abuse that people feel comfortable to dish out on social media is horrible. I also think many have a real problem separating the behaviour from the person.

I would have to guess that Ed and Matt's parents being from an older generation and perhaps are a bit more conservative than other HMs parents. They would of taught their kids some of their conservative views. Although Matt and Ed may have gotten some of their beliefs from them, but you have to remember they also grew up as part of generation Y, who I believe are a very liberal generation for the most part. Also I believe that the world that you grow up in also influences your outlook on life. Times are changing sadly a little to slow for some issues, but they are changing.

I'm not sure why Ed having a problem kissing Ben is an issue. He's never kissed a guy before and it's not something that comes naturally to him. How can people have a problem with his natural reaction?

Gen Y are considered by many of us 'oldies' as hugely conservative… seriously. I do however think their attitudes to homosexuality is an improvement ;)

Ed was not the only person who had an issue with kissing Ben, at the start of the season Matt freaked out and would not fake kiss Ben through the fence that divided the halfway house. Although Matt and Caleb did kiss during that task with the floating balls.

I really don't get why certain people (mainly leftie straight women from my personal experience/obervations) think it is okay to expect hetero males to tippy toe around gay males and 'humour' their awkward sexual advances/crushes just 'cos the suicide rate among young gay males happens to be higher than in other groups or something or other. It's kinda funny and ridiculous to be perfectly honest. lmao

Such unwanted behaviour would not be tolerated by women from 'undesirable' straight guys. Truth to be told even 'average' looking men are called creeps for accidentally daring to look in a similar directon to where a 'pretty' uppity girl happens to be as well. Sexual harassment wouldn't be out of the question if Ben pulled some of the stuff he did in the BB house on females out in the work force. lol

Although I sympathise with their plight of gays and would never deliberately utter hurtful insensitive words, I think sexual advances (however 'innocent' and 'harmless' certain people may deem it) is most definitely crossing the line.

I think it was the fuss he made plus the wiping his mouth afterwards which was the issue. I don't mind Ed, but the wiping was pretty sad. Ben mentioned it in the DR too and he was philosophical but embarrassed by the fuss Ed had made.

This is such a good point! I'm a female with a sexual preference for males so I wouldn't be keen on kissing another woman at all. Just not my thing... And I wouldn't do it JUST to give the impression that I was liberal in my thinking either. Hopefully I wouldn't be judged in a negative way!

For the record I'm a Jade fan but I don't like seeing Ed cop the abuse on social media either. I've expressed my annoyance with Ed here at times, however I'd never actually throw abuse at him on social media because of it. While most of us in the JA thread realised two weeks ago that Jade and Ed were most likely dunzo, it seems like the broader group of fans that don't post here or pay as much attention are only just catching on now hence why Ed's starting to cop it all of a sudden. I figure though we don't know what's gone down, and it's looking more and more like she was the one to drop him, so I don't see the point of criticising Ed's behaviour if they're not together. If I find out through all of this they were still together despite Ed telling girls in clubs that they were done, etc, then I'd probably have an issue with it, but I'd still never throw abuse at him on social media. I figure people actually have to go looking so see what we post here so I don't see an issue in expressing annoyance here.

Oh yes I remember that! Was a terrible nasty piece of work they were!

I think a lot of it might also come from the cultures they belong to...Ed with footy and Matt in the army. Both have very masculine cultures and I'd expect that in "blokey" worlds some of the more traditional stigmas (I.e. kissing another man) may still exist to some degree. I don't think that makes either of them homophobic, just maybe a bit less comfortable with the idea than someone with from a different upbringing/culture.

Really? I'm gen Y and I am certainly not conservative in my beliefs, but I am just one person. Although my group of friends would also consider themselves to be very liberal in their views of the world, but perhaps that is just because I like to surround myself with like minded people.

100%. It was the drama and the wiping of his mouth that were rude and hurtful. I don't see anything wrong with acknowledging the awkwardness of it--I'd feel pretty damned awkward kissing anyone on the lips I didn't particularly want to kiss, male or female. But he had to make it seem gross besides.

Really…I apologise though. And as a 'leftie straight woman' I won't insult you further :)

Perfectly said. I kiss you not :)

It's all about how you handle not doing it. remember Drew telling Ben he'd live with him providing there was a lock on his bedroom door? It's all about the wait's approached and the prior relationship.

a little disappointed Drew didn't surprise Tully at Pearl Beach, although i knew it wasn't possible when he was still in Melb in the afternoon. it would of been sooooo romantic, love the idea of meeting at Empire State Building at midnight moments, even though it always turns out bad in movies there is the good intention of being there. yes i am a closet romantic

he should of been there godamnit !!! :)

That really shocks me to hear actually. Where are you from in NSW if you don't mind me asking? I'm gen Y and it's uncommon that I come across anyone from the same age group who's hugely conservative...to the point where anyone who is opening will usually cop a few backhanded stabs from peers.
