Being a youngster myself, and also a 'raging leftie' I will say that I know a fair few people my age who are right wing. I did grow up rather affluent though and attended a private school. All the right wing, or at least economically conservative, people my age that I know are from upper-middle class or upper class families and stand to inherit or take over businesses. Although for all of those in that situation that are right wing, there are more who I know and grew up with who are left wing. And as I said, those who lean right do so more economically than socially, and where they do lean socially it has more to do with social welfare than issues surrounding 'traditional' religious morals, such as abortion or gay marriage. In fact I don't know anyone my age who is against gay marriage, even my more religious friends are for it, at least all my closer ones, it's a pretty hot issue for me so I tend to not bring it up with those I don't know well.
The social welfare objections are incredibly conservative I think, but I get what you're saying about economics. Christianity is on the rise again too, particularly in forms like Hillsong. Fascinating.

Because I sound like a patronising cow, I deleted what you have in bold. I of course hoped no-one had noticed. Northern Beaches people are all sorts, same as everywhere else I suspect :)

Not to worry. I've probably sounded worse than a patronising cow on here at times, and my post probably did give the impression that I was saying you were wrong.

BenFromBrisbane guess what I'm at dinner at Hard Rock Cafe and thought of you. I didn't know Elvis was into karate!

Haha also from Northern beaches and my son is very conservative yet also quite progressive. He is straight yet very pro-gay marriage and gets very frustrated that this is even an issue in society.
I think that's why Gen X can seem conservative. The battles in many cases have already been fought, and so far younger people aren't that interested in taking on new challenges. Lucky kids :)

Seriously, how many gay males do you know who ever infringe on the space of 'straight left leaning males'? Self preservation is ingrained for most gay kids. It's a specious argument.

Then why make a big deal out of how Ed reacted? The poor bugger was put in a very difficult lose-lose situation. If he declined to participate in the pashing game he would've copped plenty for being a 'bigot'.

So when he decides to be a 'good sport' by opting in and proceeds to respond in a natural involuntary manner to locking lips with another man he still cops it with interest.

Ben knew exactly what he was doing when he pressed the issue so I don't feel sorry for him if his feeling were hurt for the way Ed reacted. FFS he's a 30 year old man going on 60. lol I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sure Ben was taking advantage of the situation and got what he deserved for doing so.

I just walked out of the bathroom at a restaurant with a long piece of toilet paper stuck to my foot which a hot girl pointed out to me.

Check back. I don't think I did. I didn't like what TullyLovesDrew was saying, and I wish Ed hadn't wiped his mouth, but I think I've said in the last couple of pages that I don't think Ed's a homophobe. Ed bothers me very little about anything in fact.

For me the issue with the whole Ed and Ben kiss situation wasn't that Ed was obviously uncomfortable, it was how he reacted with much overt disgust. Ed can be as uncomfortable as he wants, he didn't have to be so blatant in his repulsion. I would have taken up issues if he were kissing a woman, and had reacted that way, or if anyone had reacted that way to kissing anyone. No one wants to feel like they are that repulsive, it's just common curtsey not to react like Ed did. I think he reacted that way because he was embarrassed himself at the situation, or possibly he was trying to brush the whole thing off by being funny. Pity he is a numbnut and the whole thing fell very flat, I don't think Ed is malicious, he is just very self-centred.

So my cousin just liked a post on Facebook which lead me to this:

Sarah Thompson
Hey Tim, in the spirit of New Years...tell us...are Drew+Tully and Ed+Jade together??? Come on.....I voted for you....so....you owe me.

Tim Dormer
Hahahah try to stay out of these relationships these days, but from what I hear...there's trouble in paradise on all fronts.

That was two days ago. I take what Tim says about the other HMs with a grain of salt, and the Jade/Ed stuff was already apparent...but it might indicate there's some issues in Drully-land too. Or probably not. I just found it interesting.

^ Just when all the Drully speculation had calmed down in here... TIM!!! Shut UP!!

Nice find btw Gemini...
