predestination was a great film.
a bartender meets a man in the bar and they begin talking. he shares his story with him, beginning with the fact that he in fact used to be a she. then the bartender shares his story as well, and in the end it is clear that nobody turns out to be who you think they really are... with a great mind**** to boot.
cant really 'review' this film without spilling the beans on it. but if you enjoyed film like 'minority report' or 'vanilla sky', this one is the best of them. do yourself a favour and dont read any reviews beforehand. go into this one blind.

Lucy
Scarlett Johansson gets increased brain function from drugs.
This film is not one that is worth thinking too much about. Ironic given it's subject manner. It was quite entertaining despite the plot being absurd.
It's based on that old bullshit, 'we only use 10% of our brain.' Which if you didn't know is rubbish. It was based on someone saying we only understand what 10% of the brain does. We use all of it. Anyway in this world Morgan Freeman is a professor with theories that if you increase how much of your brain you use, people will get all sorts of abilities, magic powers, super hero shit.
SJ plays Lucy who while studying in Taiwan meets a guy who gets her involved with a gang who insert some new drug into her belly for her to smuggle. The bag breaks, and she gets super powers as she starts to be able to use more and more of her brain.
The odd thing was how rapidly it went from, self control, self awareness over her body to literally being able to mind read, control people, have all sorts of magical powers and access to all the knowledge of the universe. I knew it went out there, but it goes out there. Absurdly so. It also does it so quickly, where the premise would have been much better served if it was more gradual. Like she starts learning things, get clues in, even her sense being more attune. Instead of with in minutes she can control electrical devices with her mind.
Entertaining and absurd. Not worth thinking about at all. I'm sure if Scarlett wasn't so damn pretty, the film would not be as good.

I saw three movies on the weekend.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I
22 Jump Street
And
Lucy
Mockingjay was great. I think it was very well done.
22 jump street was very funny. Hill and Tatum are a great match.
Lucy was ok. I enjoyed it overall but it's also pretty silly at times.

Winterbourne
Unfallen Icarus
The new Hobbit.
Midnight showing, nice walk home through the old town, a dusting of snow on the flagstones.
It's 3am, and there's work in the morning, but that's Morning Guy's problem.

In the interest of staying on topic the last movie I saw was Unbroken which I found quite good. Louis certainly lived through a lot.
But what I really looking forward to is Jupiters Ascending. I don't mind the odd space opera and I do like the Wachowskis work.

Columbo
Never again
Nixon starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Ok movie, but even though it was like three hours long I felt it could have been three hours longer. But that would mean it really wouldn't be a movie anymore but a tv mini series. I wouldn't mind that, seeing a more fully formed biography of one of the most controversial leaders of the 20th century.

GROOVER
Ya bloody bugger
I finally watched "The Wolf of Wall Street". Wow, how good was it and Margot Robbie was bloody awesome. Margot is on the up and up I predict. Hard to believe she was Donna, in Neighbours.
I don't know about Leonardo's performance. It was ok but I still feel he just can't nail it in the acting department.
