Lucy
Scarlett Johansson gets increased brain function from drugs.
This film is not one that is worth thinking too much about. Ironic given it's subject manner. It was quite entertaining despite the plot being absurd.
It's based on that old bullshit, 'we only use 10% of our brain.' Which if you didn't know is rubbish. It was based on someone saying we only understand what 10% of the brain does. We use all of it. Anyway in this world Morgan Freeman is a professor with theories that if you increase how much of your brain you use, people will get all sorts of abilities, magic powers, super hero shit.
SJ plays Lucy who while studying in Taiwan meets a guy who gets her involved with a gang who insert some new drug into her belly for her to smuggle. The bag breaks, and she gets super powers as she starts to be able to use more and more of her brain.
The odd thing was how rapidly it went from, self control, self awareness over her body to literally being able to mind read, control people, have all sorts of magical powers and access to all the knowledge of the universe. I knew it went out there, but it goes out there. Absurdly so. It also does it so quickly, where the premise would have been much better served if it was more gradual. Like she starts learning things, get clues in, even her sense being more attune. Instead of with in minutes she can control electrical devices with her mind.
Entertaining and absurd. Not worth thinking about at all. I'm sure if Scarlett wasn't so damn pretty, the film would not be as good.
