Last movie you saw

The Road on DVD

Wow what a sad, dark and depressing film but still I enjoyed it for what it is. It's a post apocalyptic world and mostly everyone is dead and the ones who survived search for food, shelter and safety as others have turned to cannibalism. It was a little slow and a few things I didn't like but overall it was a very different, engaging film. 7/10

It's one of a very few films ever made to have the balls to not have the traditional "happy ending" Hollywood demands tacked onto the end......... Like The Mist

You so re-worded that wrong lol you make it sound like The Mist has a Hollywood happy ending and it so did not and as for The Road
it was a happier ending then I was expecting.

Oh....... I thought I had worded it right..... I thought The Mist was downbeat at the end as well, and thought the Road had a pretty downbeat ending........ Hollywood is too scared to do that.


Independance Day for example would have been more true to life had the aliens won and only a handful of humans were left behind........
 
There's an old sci fi novel called "The Genocides" by Thomas M Disch.
An Alien race does an "Independence Day" on Earth and lays down crops for their own purposes... basically they cleared out the pests and weeds and planted their farm.

And a few people manage to survive, for a while.
It ends with a like something like "Some animals managed to adapt and survive. Rabbits, mice. But not Man".
 
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

I liked it. A big fun, constantly entertaining action adventure film. Interesting story, all the actors were good and not a dull or slow moment in the film at all. Don't know what else to say really, i enjoyed it a lot, not the greatest film ever, but definitely a good solid blockbuster. I honestly can't think of a single complaint against the film.
 
I liked the Prince of Persia games (not great, but good) and I can't get over how much Jake looks like the Prince did in the promo shots.

Yeah I used to love the games too....... Damn Windows and it's inability to run DOS games.

Some of those old games had lovely graphics..... I used to love playing POP and Aladdin.
 
Harley - I basically agree 100% with what you just said. It was predictable and schmaltzy but I quite enjoyed it. And it was great to see an ex-home & away actor (Christopher Egan - the male lead) in a big movie. It didn't set out to be a groundbreaking dramatic masterpiece and it delivered exactly what a drama-romance movie should.

Yeah i didnt even know who Egan was untill i looked at his profile on imdb lol,
but im glad i didnt because if i had known i probably wouldnt of given him a chance..
 
"Robin Hood"

You know, Ridley Scott, now I know why Aliens 3 was so bad. He's up and down with his form. I think "Men In Tights" was better, even if Cary Ulwes is almost unpronouncable and makes no possible phonetic sense.

3 out of 5, and that's probably generous. The action sequences were ok, scenery lovely, and excellent medieval flute music.

The two main actors were tradesmanlike, I suppose you could say "understated", but they had a plot to work with that was all over the manor, and that's putting it mildly.

Still it passed the time on a Tuesday afternoon off work. If it hadn't been about English history/mythology it may have lost half a star.
 
Just saw animal kingdom. Another disappointing movie to add to the list. Don't know wat all the fuss was about
 
David and Margaret loved Robin Hood, they gave it 4 and a half and 4 stars respectively. Was it off putting GB that the storyline is a little different to what we know orginally? (which is what everyone is saying).

And on the subject of David and Margaret, David gave SATC half a star, Margaret gave it 3 - who's seen it and whadya think? Should I splash some cash or not?
 
Oh don't get me wrong, it's worth seeing, just not as good as I expected - and yes....it was because David and Mags rated it so highly that I expected a bit more.

I didn't find it boring, it just could have been a lot better. And some of what happened was completely banal and cliche. Again though, it's Anglo Saxon folklore, it's just not Michael Praed (and remember all that Clannad music ringing out of the mists of 1985?) :D

They probably changed the storyline, timing, a bit because they want to set up a sequel. But there seemed to be too many threads that didn't gel too well. I suppose it is what you call a "reboot", and I don't like reboots unless they really are worth it. Must be a sign of age.

Ah ok, I will see it then :) I do like Russell when he's being all furious and manly etc. but in everything else he seems to repel me :)
 
I've always liked his acting, even though the way he acts in public (as reported) is mind boggling. He seems to be a bit fitter looking based on that bathtub scene, but he's certainly no Michael Praed.

There are some movies I've seen Crowe in where he's been great, including two Australian movies early in his career where he played a neo Nazi skinhead, and a gay Sydney man, respectively. So that shows a bit of range.

When he first opened his mouth in Robin Hood it did sound like an Irish accent - so I'm not sure why was so offended by that comparison.

Anyway, there are a few quite resonant and pithy lines in the movie, so maybe that is the highlight of "Robin Hood" for me. And the theme about absolute power corrupting absolutely and standing up against that was quite resonant for me at the time (10 days ago) when i saw the movie.
