Last movie you saw

Nah that's fine and it ties into the story, and longer stark industries storyline.

The Square

Aussie film from a year or two back. Only reason i picked this up is i've been seeing a bit about it in the interwebs movie sphere because it's finally getting some sort of release in the USA. So seeing a bunch of good reviews for an aussie crime noir film sparked my interest.
Deals with a married man having an affair with a younger woman who's married to a bit criminal. Everything goes ary when they see an oppurtunity to take some money and run. Of course nothing works out simply and one mistake compounds another mistake and so on.
Yeah it started off a little slow but sucks you in more and more as it continues. Isn't quite as well crafted as similar international films of this style, but its definitely a good film and well done. If aussie films were more like this, they'd do a lot better at the box office.

I watched Twilight New Moon last night. That movie is baaaaad, not even so bad it's good, it's just bad, even the cheesy music is irritating. Edward's longing gazes somewhere over Belle's shoulder or just to the left of her armpit were mildly entertaining. I had to fast forward through much of it because I just couldn't stand watching the nearly still images in more than one part. Belle looking wistful, Belle looking sad, Belle looking lonely.

Bring on the next one. lol, I'll probably watch it too.

Belle is just a sucker for a hot bod.
So she's in to Vampires and now Werewolves. Maybe next movie she can get all hormonal over Frankenstein.

I continue to be amazed. if a movie is so bad why is it so popular? I mean the books are not a literary masterpiece by any means.... How did an average author get such success?

I have never read a book or seen a film. All I know is from last year I themed my friends Birthday party as twilight. She claims her and her boyfriend didn't know what it was and were at the movies and saw a vampire film and so thought it would be something good. Of course hated it... So for be birthday I made up posters, photoshoped her into them all sorts of stuff.
I was going through a lot of twilight websites and the tattoos and the quotes were just bizaar. It was the cheesiest romance lines every. So corny it was bad.

The impression I got from it all was that it was essentially miss and boones romance novels for tweener girls. It just must tap into how people see themselves at these young teen, tweenagers with boys, their fantasies ect. However with a vampire twist.

The quotes are flat out terrible. In the trailer for the latest film, the werewolf guy says, "i will fight for you until your heart stops beating." I literally laughed out loud.

Another sign of how crap they are is how quickly they are rushing out the movies and how relatively cheaply they are doing it. Trying to cash in as quickly and as fast as possible.

Is it true that they seem to have been written by someone who apparently is aware of vampires but only slightly and it's as if they have never seen or read a vampire related film or book?

Stephanie Meyer (the author) claims it all came to her in a dream, she's a Mormon and who can tell what she knows about vampires. Does anyone know anything about vampires?

It's a good story, poorly written and even more poorly adapted to the screen. I think it's main appeal is to tween/teen age girls because of the romance of eternal love and sacrifice. I read the books because my son was reading them (he was influenced by a girl he claims was just a friend, maybe he's a secret romantic too) and the story really does draw you in.

The second book, which New Moon was based on, was the dullest of the four so maybe the next movie(s) will manage to pull the good story elements out of the book. So far they are 0 for 2, so it doesn't look good.

That quote, stupid as it sounds, isn't quite as bad as it seems. When she becomes a vampire, her heart will stop beating.

If the fourth book is as interesting as it sounds?
Like doesn't Edward try and get bella to have an abortion? And then the werewolf falls in love with a new born baby... maybe i'll see that

I watched 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' (The Ian Dury story) last night.

It was absolutely fantastic. Loved it!!!

10 out of 10.

eta: then afterwards I watched Dear John.

Was ok.. pretty much how I expected it be.

AVATAR

And yeah it was a rip off of a few other movies but I actually didn't mind it..... In the cinema the 3D did not work for me. Most 3D movies do not work for me and just give me a bloody headache..... But I loved all the visuals in this and yeah it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad that you want to bin it.......

5/10

A Love To Hide

Poignant French film set in Paris during WWII.
Sara, a young Jewish woman who has just witnessed the slaughter of her entire family, comes to seek refuge with an old friend, Jean, who she has been secretly in love with since they first met on holiday as children. He agrees to hide her, but is also hiding a secret of his own - he's gay. With the help of Jean's lover, Philippe, they shelter Sara and give her a new identity, but when Jean's 'bad egg' brother, Jacques, gets out of jail, things take a very dangerous and devastating turn.

It's the first film I've ever seen that has highlighted the "re-education" of homosexuals by the Nazis. I really respect the way the message of cruelty and inhumanity was shown, without it being gratuitous or glorifying.

Beautifully shot and wonderful performances by Jeremie Renier and Louise Monot. Some of the dialogue didn't seem right - though that may just be down to the French-to-English translation - but otherwise, it was a heart wrenching story of love, loss, friendship, family, loyalty and betrayal.

Absolutely loved it (in an 'it made me cry' kinda way).

:) In progress.

"When your a Jet,
You're a Jet all the way,
From you first cigarette
to you last dying day"

I've never seen Westside Story all the way thru before... great stuff.

I actually don't like that...... I had the special edition DVD of that but couldn't actually get into it. I gave that away.

Zombieland on DVD.

I wish I seen this at the cinemas! It was so good, the visuals and camera work ontop of the quirky storyline and funny moments.. sigh. There were a few things I could pick apart but for a no brain zombie comedy it was great! 8/10

Oh cool I might get this now...... ... So it's lots of fun hey.

Up In The Air on DVD

I normally can't stand George Clooney and the plot for the movie sounded so bloody boring! but I tried it anyway and I was surprised, it was actually good.. I would give it 4 stars.

The Last Samurai

Never got around to seeing this film. Always just thought it was something kind of lame for whatever reason. Maybe it was Tom Cruise having his Mission Impossible 2 hair cut in feudal japan.

It was actually a surprisingly good film. Interesting, good performances and good production. Except for the blue-screen compositing of water at a dock early in the film. Almost ruined the film.. well not at all. Always surprising when there's such an obvious glitch in the effects how it was not resolved... Anyways I digress. Was very entertaining and made me want to know more about this part of japanese history.
It wasn't with out flaws. It did slow down at times. Oh and the story. It's 1876 Tom Cruise plays an American Soldier who goes to Japan to train the army in modern weapons and ways to defeat rebellious samurai? Well we aren't actually given a real insight into why the fight. Seemingly those that want to push the country into a modern times, those that prefer the old ways. Cruises character is forced to rush into battle with unprepared men, they loose. He gets captured and falls in love with the simple, calm idealistic samurai, rural life. So of course, then joins up with them to fight to modern japanese. So year it's this old thing. Similar to Avatar.
The problem is... it's pure fiction, so a good film is ruined by the fact it parades around as if it was true. There's even a character, who Tom Cruises character gives his journals and notes to. So you expect if it's a real story that's the guy who wrote the book.
Instead his character is based on a french guy, and the film is an amalgam of battles, conflicts, western influence over several hundred years. Even the whole Samurai, live by the sword, no guns ect is fake.
I'm all for fictional stories. How great are movies like Gladiator which are fiction and loosely based on some real stuff. How ever seeming to tell the story of a fairly recent defining moment in japan, courage, self sacrifice for self determination or whatever... All lead by a fictional american. It just smacks to me of classic America re-writing history through films to feel good about themselves. They way they have done with many WW2 films. Maybe it was stuff about this being a fictionalised version of Japanese history with an American learning their ways, helping them, showing honour, courage that at the time made me not see it. Who knows.

It was still a good film, but these facts leave me with a bitter after taste.
