Last movie you saw

I'm sure her performance was great but I just can't stand her or her films for some reason. I didn't like Doubt either, or Mamma Mia or whatever else she's been in. Not sure why.

 I loved Doubt. I don't like Meryl enough to see Mamma Mia though.

I thought I would enjoy Doubt considering I'm a big fan of Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman but it just did nothing for me. Maybe a second viewing would help me enjoy it more, I don't know.

Mamma Mia was deplorable. I had to stop watching after half an hour, it was so terrible.

There was talks of Spielberg maybe getting involved, but then apparently the film is still on hold. It'll get done at some point. Maybe if district 9 does well it'll be given back the jackson and that guy.

Why was it taken from them in the first place?

BTW the guns in District 9 are awesome.... Theuy look like something out of half life

I enjoyed Orphan last night, that girl is real creepy and a good freaky twist, kind of horror I like, I got lots of laughs and my friend got shocks.
Is District 9 good? Is it depressing?

District 9

Really liked this film. Really well made, although the shakey camera was annoying a little bit. Thoroughly loved the idea and the execution. Really well written, made and acted. Was quite refreshing to see a science fiction film of this sort that was so cool and actually had some intelligence behind it. Definitely one of the best sci-fi films in a long time. It's the sort of film that is like, I am exactly they key audience member. You know when you see a film and it's as if someone was sitting there trying to make films for you because you like so much of it.

I'm not too enthusiastic about yet another Cloverfield style experience, that feels more like a theme park ride than a film. But I just have to see it.

The cloverfield analogies aren't really that apt. Yes it's handheld, but this is in no way like cloverfield in narrative, structure, story or direction. It's just shot like a documentary.

That is a relief to know.

Tonight I saw a trailer for The Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt. I'm looking forward to the 27th of August!

Bkeela, I'm yet to see District 9 but everyone who's seen it has loved it. You possibly know already I work at the drive in so i get to ask alot of people if they liked it or not and i'm yet to get a bad review from anyone. One of the guys tonight said it was great to see a sci fi movie that actually had a great storyline that was easy to follow and made sense. So i would definately go and see it.

someone a row behind us at district 9 I heard say it was the biggest piece of shit they'd ever seen. It's definitely not a film for everyone. There's the people who wouldn't buy into the story and the aliens and their situation, or give sympathy and so forth. Then there'd be those who the social and society and the parallels to humans in refugee situations, all that would go right over there head, even though it's fairly basic stuff.

It's a while since "Cloverfield" was out, but I enjoyed that when I saw it at the movies (back in the day).

One of our friends had to leave the cinema as he was getting motion sickness.

Last night we saw "Public Enemies" with the Deppster. I love 30s era movies generally, "Road to Perdition" is one of my favourite films as is "Bonnie and Clyde".

There was plenty of shoot em up type action, but the best part of the movie was the 30s ambience, the music, art deco buildings etc. Quite moving at the end, the odd humourous moment.

It did seem to be lacking a certain something and it could have been a fine movie, but overall a good way to spend about 2 hours.

I got this in Cloverfield.
Some people want a conventional Hollywood story and they don't like it when the storytelling rules are changed on them.

Actually yeah I do remember now some 16 year olds or whatever complaining in the cinema after cloverfield. I think it was about how it didn't explain anything. Was ages ago, can't really remember. I want to say one said it was shit and another was saying, what was that about, what was the monster.. but yeah memory is unriliable.. although i am postive the "that was shit" was said.

Personally I really enjoyed cloverfield, only annoying thing was, the story arc was a bit contrived. Was just enjoyable fun, something different, something to get your imagination going. I didn't have a problem with the ending. It was an interesting concept done well.
It's odd how people need things to be spelt out for them. I've seen on message boards online about District 9, people who are complaining about plot holes ect, that weren't explained in the film. However they were all things addressed, even if by a line here and there, but you get enough to understand what's going on. You may have to slightly extrapolate, but it's all there that I didn't find any problem understanding it. If people are worried about the technical details of the aliens, then they missed the point of the films.

Do people really need everything explained in detail scrolling crawl and diagrams on screen or whatever people want.

Resident Evil

Had seen the sequels, never the first. It was alright, not great, there were signs where you could see the director just wasn't quite up to scratch for what he wanted as far as suspense went. It was enjoyable, now i've seen it there's the whole.. do i keep the dvd or chuck it dilemma. It's on the shelf with the other films for now.

I only just saw Cloverfield and to tell the truth I think it sucks..... I'm seeing Beautiful Kate next week so I'll probably be depressed then.
