Last movie you saw

I watched "The Proposition" on dvd last night.
Guy Pearce was fantastic in it. He really is a superb actor.
The movie is so gritty and realistic, its almost visceral.

anyway, pants off for Guy Pearce.

Bad advertising.
Too heavy on cliches that made people, and me, groan.
That whole Australia = desert and stockmen and aboriginies and cows and kangaroos.

So does that explain why all my american friends think we have kangaroos roaming suburban streets? Honestly why do americans think that?

Do Americans think that?

(BTW, we had a kangaroo jumping around our street a month or so ago. Suburban Melbourne. So....)

When I first met Mr Raven's parents I was asked about that, I was also asked if we had sealed roads and credit cards. Also did we have koalas in all our trees, they were shocked that I have never seen a koala outside of a zoo.

When he told his family that he was moving here, there were terrified that he would be eaten by a crocodile or bitten by something fatally poisonous.

Nicole Kidman Films

Films of hers I have

To Die For
Dead Calm
Bewitched
The Peacemaker
Far And Away

I liked all of them even the much maligned Bewitched

I saw Easy Virtue on weekend, hilarious, great little movie.

Americans think everything will kill you in Australia, because we have lots of venomous stuff that most of us have never seen and will never see.
Letterman is quite funny when he talks to actors from here or filming here about all the dangerous stuff. And we do have a lot of dangerous stuff we are kind of immune to the danger as we just grow up with it.

It's kind of funny how our wildlife - maruspials, animals etc mostly look like cartoon characters, but everything else bugs, snakes, jellyfish etc are lethal.

I went to the Star Trek world premiere at the Opera House tonight... it was awesome. We walked the red carpet... and saw a few local celebs... Mike Goldman, Hamish & Andy, Indira Naidoo ... the latter was pounced on in the theatre for taking her mobile in, but they apparently let her hold on to it.

The movie was fantastic. The Opera House is supposedly known for bad acoustics - but they had had Dolby come in to set up the audio so the explosions rocked the entire theatre. Absolutely loved the movie and look forward to seeing it again in a month when it opens. Lots of humour injected through it, great effects, and all the acting was spot on.

yeah so I hear...... Only one nitpick from what I hear and from an important scene

Far Cry

well it's a Uwe Boll film so you go in not expecting anything great. I was hoping for better. From the films of his i've seen, it's gone from laughably bad, to actually decent b-grade. Such as In the Name of the King. That film showed a step forward in his abilities, but this film was a step back. It was also quite a small film. It did seem quickly done, the production was on the level of an episode of a tv show to be honest. Well a slightly larger scope in some of the things, but honestly not by much.
I must admit with Uwe Boll, i actually quite enjoyed Postal, it was a funny, messed up politically incorrect film. I think he should maybe stick a bit more in that direction. Once again this film was much smaller than that, which is just odd. It feels like it was filmed over a couple weeks, which it probably was.

It was a bit odd, there was an interesting sense of humour to it, that was underdeveloped. The film was also quite uneven and cheap. While it's not the Far Cry film the fans of the video game would want. Gone is the tropical island setting, and the story is only very slightly similar. this time its just a few genetically modified soldiers.

I actually think the story of the film isn't terrible, and something better could have been dome with better writers. Also the lead actress wasn't that great. It seemed rushed. The direction and action was a bit uneven. The opening scene was really poorly done, some of the later action was fairly decent.

It's not terrible but expect crapness, and just go for some light action entertainment. You know with these things if you can watch them and not be annoyed by the crap level or not.

I'm a fan of the game. I love the game, especially the level on the big river... And the fact you can edit the levels...... There's a nasty little man with a rocket launcher on the river level and he can see you from like a mile off..... So I edited him out..

Having just read your review any intentions of seeing this movie are now gone unless it is selling for under $10....

Having said that I've never seen a Uwe Boll filml except for Bloodrayne and I liked that and I liked the sequel. Pity you can't get the actual games any more they were supposed to be good.

If this film is ever in the $5 bin I may give it a go...

Yeah it's just, like it'd be ok for 5 bucks. 10 bucks honestly, it's a film that is just ok, but you're aware of the crap factor. You wouldn't want to pay more. It's just odd, it's just not polished, in editing, music, screenplay, acting.

Would love to have seen the game in a tropical setting, with more locations. It's literally, yeah lakes in canda, pine forests, and a wood mill.
Could have been so much more. Til Schweiger who plays Jack Carver, he was pretty cool, i'd see other action films of his.

It's better than bloodrayne, but once again it's smaller. As i said it takes place in few locations. Funniest part of bloodrayne was Michael Madsen who obviously wanted it to be known he didn't want to be there making the film. He didn't even try and act.
Once again, to me that's a crappy passable film. How was the sequel?

Check out Postal was a ****ed up comedy.. maybe watch the trailer to see if its your thing,, and In The Name of The King is decent, and Jason Statham makes anything good. These are regarded the best Uwe films.

I've got another film of his, Tunnel Rats which is meant to be decent as well. It's about the vietnam war and the soldiers that crawl in the tunnels after the Vietcong. I'll watch that in next few nights and put up my thoughts.

I don't get the general hate towards Uwe, sometimes i'm in the mood for a film which is cheap fun. You don't like it, will let the crap elements ruin it, then don't watch, don't bitch.

The hate comes about because almost 100% of his films are done as tax write offs hence why there's ao much german funding as they can write the films off in Germany as a tax write off. Plus the cheap production values. Bloodrayne was good for Kristanna Loken who played Rayne.... The sequel actually I felt was better then the originaal. Not as gory either but it didn't have Kristanna Loken,. Instead another redhead took her place.
