Last movie you saw

You know what's tough? Going to see that movie with your wife.
It steps in very touchy ground for married couples.
Good movie, but I came out of it apologizing to my wife for ruining her life.

I was going to start my mini-review with a warning for young married couples to stay well away, and for God's sake, don't see this movie on a date.

Revolutionary Road, though a tad unrealistic, was extremely interesting, and performed to perfection by all involved.

I haven't seen Kate this fragile since Holy Smoke, and Leonardo was competent as usual. But it was David Harbour's quietly desperate husband, and Michael Shannon's say it like it is psycho, that impressed me.

The people in the theatre laughed at the end of the film. It was too much for them, and it went straight over their heads anyway. But for someone like me, who might as well be a monk, and who is seen as a sad freak by married friends, it was an edifying experience. So thanks for making a film for the freaks, Sam Mendes, but I don't think the normals will get much out of it.

Ok finally saw Eagle Eye and I did like it despite it being spoilt for me lol

It wasn't much of a twist as part of the storyline, so you're forgiven CLE.

Saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona - not funny at all, an OK watch, how could Penelope Cruz get nominated for an Oscar for that? she was hardly in it.

RocknRolla - Guy Ritchie wrote and directed it.....very well done, slick and clever...a tad complicated for me to follow all the characters and their parts but maybe it was just me and the heat last night, I couldn't be bothered concentrating so much.

That's ok I did not mean to spoil you..... I did feel bad for the slip up.

How much did you have to suspend belief to fall into the movie's world and beleive ARIA could do all those things that she did?

Oh man, that movie is so hilarious. Clint as a grumpy old man is the funniest thing.

Very poignant though, too. Great film.

Went to a preview of "Milk" on Wednesday night.

Starring Sean Penn. The preview was a fundraiser for the VGLRL which Universal Pictures kindly donated the print for free of charge.

Once I negotiated my own internecine social circle politics in the foyer, and the movie started, it was actually a superb movie. I'd say 8.5/10.

After I got over oggling James Franco's character in the first 20 or so minutes, the thing you notice is how wonderful a job Penn does in totally immersing himself in the character. And what a wonderful time and place to be around, albeit with all the attendant conerns about the Anita Bryants of this world. A very moving film also.

My favourite line: "My name is Havey Milk. And I'm here to recruit you." Everyone is talking about this movie in terms of Sean Penn's performance, which is fine, but I didn't know much about Harvey Milk the person before this movie - and to me he seems like a collossus. And all done with a smile on his face.

Also, the boy in the wheelchair. I think that was what it's all about really.

Saw Marley and Me for the second time tonight and cried yet again. I really like the film, it's fairly faithful to the book and Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston aree really suited to their roles.

Also saw Bride Wars last week and it was enjoyable. A good chick flick movie

Iron Man
I was surprised by how good it was. It reminded me of Transformers except with intelligence and much better special effects. The CGI was seriously amazing, maybe the best I've ever seen in a film. Robert Downey Jr was so good as always, too. I think I even prefer this to The Dark Knight. Awesomeness.

Transporter 3 - Decent, but weakest of the franchise. Stathom is the best action guy around by far these days. It'll be a sad day when he stops making these sort of films.

REC - Was good, I was expecting better. I think the subtitles took away from it a bit.

The film worked for me too. I think because Downey has actually been in jail that helped with his role, and especially the part where he was captured. The suit reminded me of transformers too. It's a cool movie.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind for school...

it sucks that media has good movies to study(like ^^) but english has some of the boringest movies ever made

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a wonderful film in my opinion. Such a unique story idea executed brilliantly. Michel Gondry's visual style is amazing, also. I can understand why the film would be slightly confusing as it's told in such an unorthodox manner, but I hardly think it's boring. Of course, this is only my opinion. By the way, I hope your English class hasn't made you believe "boringest" is a word :O

Last film I saw was Doubt. Terrific acting but I wasn't really sold by the story. The film seemed like typical Oscar fodder to me. I've seen similar stories told much better. Overall, it was okay.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind did have good visuals, the script and plot were good, acting was great, i didnt find it confusing at all, but still I felt that it was missing something, I thought it was a pretty average film, and I was expecting much more, considering the hype. I will find time to watch it again though, it seems to be one of those movies that will prove me wrong the second time.

Gran Torino: fantastic film. The first half is extremely funny. By the second half, I was caring so much for the characters, when shit went down I was outraged. This time the avenging angel uses the most potent weapon ever.

Bolt: very good. Nice character design, animation, action, and all that stuff. The recycled kiddie plot wasn't enough to hold my attention, so I became distracted by theatre patrons and their noises. But the characters of Mittens and Rhino were well worth the price of admittance.

The Golden Compass

I actually enjoyed this a lot.

The sotry of a young girl Lyra who is given the 'golden compass' which is a kind of instrument for sensing truths. It's full name is an Elithemometer(spelling) and it is quite cool.

the introduction spoken by Nicole Kidman tells us of Lyra's world which is a parallel Earth to our own, which is but one of many such Earths as the opening scene shows a modern Earth street on Our Earth. It's quite a beautiful world with big airships driven by plasma balls and antique carriages that drive themselves. I quite liked all that. I wish we still had big airships.

Lyra embarks on a big adventure with talking ice bears and a cowboy in a flying airship of his own. In lyra's world people's souls don't live in their bodies, but alongside them in the form of animals called daemons. Rather a cool concept I thought. As she is a child however Lyra's daemon hasn't settled on one form to talke. Her father has gone on an expedition to prove the existence of the other worlds, which are all connected through the universe by particles called "dust."

Enter Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter who seems nice at first but is quite evil in her intentions. She wants people to be seperated from their daemons so they won't ever be affected by dust and more docile, and controllable. It's because everyone has a daemon in their world that the effects of dust can be sensed by some, and the authorities of Lyra's world of which Mrs. Coulter is part of want to put a stop to all that, and at the same time extend their power to those other worlds......

it's a great movie I enjoyed it lots

6/10

Choke
It was okay. The direction left a lot to be desired and I wasn't particularly thrilled with some of the casting choices. It doesn't come close to the other film that was adapted from a Chuck Palahniuk novel (Fight Club) nor does it come close to the book it originated from but it's a decent adaptation.
